The One Who Tamed Mereoleona: Chapter 7

Grand Magical Zone

–Ignis Vermillion–

He opened his eyes as he felt a gust of hot and humid air hit his face. Seeing the giant lizard face of Homura, lit up on fire, was not something he wished to see when he went into Meditation, trying to see if he could break through the strength barrier.

"Oh, get off," He grumbled as he pushed Homura back with his Mana zone, the overgrown lizard not even budging at the blow that would have most Magic Knights on their asses. Instead, Homura rolled his eyes and turned out, leaving him alone for now but now without getting the last say, by hitting him in the face with the end of his tail.

He looked at Homura who was looking back at him, with an almost smirk on his face. He shook his head and closed his eyes once again, Homura was just checking if he was meditating or sleeping because the Giant Lizard loved to annoy him for some reason.

The swat of the tail was nothing as he went back into meditation, trying to see if he could gain something, even though he was not doing anything different from what he had been doing that past decade or so. The only reason he had been undiscovered until now was because he didn't fight with Humans, period. The majority of his fights had been with magical beasts or at that one time, even a spirit, mostly in the Grand Magical zones.

Each and every Grand Magical Zone seemed to have a beast or a being at the end which was exponentially stronger than anything in the Zone, so much so that for most of the Magic Knights who were unfortunate enough to reach that point would end up dying, such was the strength of the so called Guardians of the Grand Magical Zones.

Some of the Guardians were sentient intelligent beings like the Dryad, who was the guardian spirit of Elysia - the Hidden Elf Sanctuary. They were very wary and hostile at first but Dryad's assurance that he bore no ill will towards them allowed them to soften towards him. He learned pure mana manipulation from them though reaching his Ultimate Magic technique is still far beyond him, according to Dryad since he needed not just magic reserves for that magic.

Something about extreme synergy with self and dominating attributes being necessary requirements to be eligible to cast Ultimate Magics.

That was somewhat of a shocker for him since all Elves were dead, according to what he had been taught in the Clover Kingdom but when he learned the history of the massacre and the tragic reason why the Elves had been reduced to such a pitiful number, he was given a strong reminder as to how Evil Nobles and humanity in general could be.

That was part of the reason why he avoided kingdoms and war fronts especially because while he was strong magically, he didn't think that he had it in him to see extreme suffering, suffering for no reason, and not do anything about it. So whenever he felt like he was coming too close to humans, he dove into the nearest Grand Magical Zone.

That was how he lived for the past three and a half decades, never stopping improving, never stopping learning and exploring, his powers and his origins. Dryad allowed him to hone his Mana Zone and even lent him her powers for a bit so he could see how he could manage the always active Mana Zone since Dryad did something similar as part of her domain. He copied that ability shamelessly from her, allowing him to now know everything happening around him and allowed him to never be ambushed, ever again, in his life.

Seeing that even TIme Magic users were unable to remain undetected in his zone meant for the first time in his long life, he could say that he was unafraid of being ambushed, the first and the last ambush of his life leaving a heavy mark on his mind.

He sighed as he felt the incoming avalanche of fire that was headed his way, courtesy of one overgrown and excited lizard who couldn't wait for TWO MINUTES!

"Alright, let's see you dodge this," He muttered, exasperated as the fire was halted in his Mana Zone and then repelled at twice the intensity. The roars that followed in Homura's Lair were more of excitement and less of pain as all the creatures in the Grand Magical Zone trembled under the amount of magic being thrown around in the relatively small lair, so much so that most of the sand around it had already turned to glass, save for the ground in Homura's lair that had Homura's magic seep into it for decades, strengthening it beyond the pale.

Royal Capital, Clover Kingdom

–Ignatius Vermillion–

"He's powerful." Was the first thing that came out of his mouth when the Wizard King asked for his opinion on the mysterious mage that his daughter stumbled onto.

They had all gathered in the Wizard King's office after he had properly thanked the Vaude Family Mage and sent off Mereoleona to be treated and looked at by the Family Healers. While Ignis mentioned that he used healing Magic on his daughter, he still wanted another opinion on her condition, just in case.

"Certainly so. He was able to shut us all down, including my sister who had a Mana Zone not to mention…" Fuegoleon led to the situation where the Wizard King popped up out of nowhere and was summarily attacked by Ignis because of it.

The Wizard King, Julius sighed, "Yes. I heard of an emergency in the Vermillion family so I followed, just in case you needed help, especially since you were headed to the Grand Magical Zone."

"We thank you for that, Wizard King but what are we going to do about Ignis? He is obviously a member of the Vermillion family, as I am sure you can confirm." Fuegoleon asked Julius with the mindset of a Magic Knight Captain instead of a prospective family member, just like his role asked of him.

While Ignatius was retired, focused on helping his family stay strong and out of trouble. In that regard, the prospect of getting Ignis to come back to help his family seemed like something of a god send.

"Yes, I have confirmed that he indeed does possess a Clover Kingdom Grimoire. As for your question, I actually am unsure as to how to deal with Ignis. He is clearly powerful, even I am not as confident in defeating him."

"What?" "How?" Both he and his son exclaimed at that. It was clear knowledge that Julius, aside from his Time Magic, was a Magic knight more than powerful enough to deal with most magic knights. With his Time Magic? He was unstoppable.

'Powerful enough to seal Conrad' A feat that was supposed to be impossible and yet had been done by Julius, increasing his strength in the eyes of all the nobles and royals, who hastily made him the next Wizard King unanimously, lest he turn his sights on the nobles and royals who orchestrated or allowed Conrad's sacrifice to go in vain.

Since then, anything that Julius put up to the Parliament, he made sure that House Vermillion gave its full support to because he knew just what kind of a monster Conrad was and how much of a monster Julius was to be able to put Conrad away.

Julius sighed at that, "Yes. While his feats might seem just strong to both of you, do remember that at no point during our meeting, he used his Grimoire. Whatever you saw was pure Mana manipulation and Mana Zone, that's it. And then there was his fire. His fire was able to burn through one of my spells, that alone should tell you what a disaster it would be if we tried something and failed."

Yes, the fire. White Fire, something already a legend in the Clover Kingdom since only one mage in the Vermillion Family ever possessed it which led Baldric to become the strongest Magic Knight of his era, eventually becoming the Wizard King and not just any Wizard King, the oldest serving Wizard King, his fire allowing him to remain uncontested until he fell to the Fire Dragon at the end of the Grand Magical Zone where he spent the last years of his life after doing a peaceful transfer of power to a younger Wizard King.

A peaceful transfer of power that has only happened twice in the history of the Clover Kingdom. His death was mourned by the Kingdom since he was responsible for burning away most of the invaders of Clover Kingdom, allowing the Kingdom a long respite of peace.

Now, that same white Fire had appeared in yet another mage of the Vermillion Family and yet, that same Mage no longer wished to associate with both Clover Kingdom and House Vermillion.

"Yes, the White Fire. It is the stuff of legends. If records are to be believed, it allowed Wizard King Baldric to burn through most magic itself, allowing him to remain uncontested. It is certainly potent."

He was about to correct his son when the Wizard King himself did it.

"No, Fuegoleon, not just white fire. If it was just that, I would not be so worried. No, Ignis had blue flames, something never seen before. It allowed him to burn through my spell, through time itself which is a cause of immense concern."

Fuegoleons's eyes widened at that, the little colour change somehow slipping his mind.

"Well," He looked as the Wizard King slammed his hands on the table and stood up, "This has certainly been an interesting evening. Now, why don't you all go and find the answers to the question Ignis asked you? I think that should help us get a better idea of who he was, and I have some of my own research to do. Today has been quite enlightening,"

With those fading words, the Wizard King faded from view, his mana signature disappearing as he probably used his magic to transport himself across the Capital in an instant.

"Come on," He said as father and son stood up, "Let's go see who our wayward family member was, and what we did to wrong him. I just hope that I was not involved in it."

He muttered the last part because he was genuinely afraid for House Vermillion if Ignis didn't want anything to do with them because Ignis, Ignis could be the key to...

Marrying Mereoleona!
