Chapter 748: Queen Sundew (II)

Queen Sundew’s huge body crashed into the ground. The impact sent pillars of earth surging into the sky in protest, only to be flattened by the shockwaves of spiritual energy that emanated in all directions. She was stunned, both in mind and spirit. The clash with that strange human had shaken her spiritual sea to the core. His strength was nothing to laugh at. Her mind was also a mess as she tried to make sense of the situation.

What was this strange beast transformation art? She had never seen such a thing before. No human of the Beast God Sanctum was capable of this, nothing that would make them look like this. This person looked almost like a…

No, she couldn’t believe it. She refused to believe it. There was a frightened tremor within her soul but she forced it down.

This was her home, her kingdom. How dare these humans attack her?

“Keeeee!” She let out a powerful screech as her spiritual energy surged.

The wounds she had just suffered rapidly recovered. Her broken limbs knitted back together. Bits of her carapace fell away, revealing a brand-new and even tougher layer beneath.

Holding her two pairs of forearms forward, freshly sprouted green spikes shot out like a hailstorm. The volley wasn’t aimed at the human male but at Jasmine, forcing the fox to take evasive action.

When the man once again tried to crush her with that abnormal turtle shell, Queen Sundew was ready. She directly caught the charge, crashing into the shell with her shoulder which was immediately crushed. However, even as the attack damaged her body, her body was healing just as quickly.

The pair slid along the ground for a hundred meters before finally coming to a stop. Taking advantage of the pause, Queen Sundew let out another screech, commanding her armies to attack these intruders.

The forest all around answered her call. The buzzing of insect wings formed a raging hurricane as they approached. The ground shook as unknown insects arrived from deep below.

Pu! Pu! Pu!

Rays of moonlight impacted all around her, with three finding their mark, punching holes straight through. One even managed to burn a hole through her left eye. But a breath later, those holes closed back up.

As this happened, the first army of insects arrived to assist. It was a legion of small dragonflies. Their bodies were bright red, almost orange. With a bulbous head and a thin, long body, they looked like flying arrows from a distance.

Receiving her commands through spiritual voice transmission, the dragonflies dived towards the human male. They performed no attack, merely increasing their speed until they created a blur of red.

Boom!

The first insect collided with the turtle shell and exploded. A wave of fire and blazing spiritual energy spread out in a small circle of about five meters. Any mortal in that vicinity would have blown to bits.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Hundreds of dragonflies exploded one after another and at the same time. They created a steady drumbeat of death without regard for their own lives. Their entire life force was expended in the process, leaving nothing behind, not even dust.

It was a fearsome attack, one that even a Spirit Lord would have to be wary of. One such explosion was nothing. Even a hundred was hardly a bother. However, there were thousands of these suicidal dragonflies. In fact, there were tens of thousands in this single legion alone.

This was one of Queen Sundew’s strongest insect armies. She hadn’t even used it during the siege of Beast God City. However, since her home was under attack, she had to bring out all of her special units.

At the same time, the ground exploded all around, revealing countless giant black beetles. Each one was over twenty meters tall and had the mass of a small mountain. These giants were good for only one thing, strength and defense.

With the arrival of this army, Queen Sundew opened her mandibles and let out a green fog. Upon breathing in this fog, the black beetles grew in size and became even more fearsome. At the same time, the human was forced to hold his breath for the moment.

Above the battle, another insect legion appeared. This time, it consisted of flying bugs with glowing abdomens. They looked like fireflies, only each one was the size of a rodent. And when their bellies glowed, it was harmless yellow light but a blinding white. Together in thousands, they formed a light array that served to distort one’s vision and mental state.

These reinforcements immediately had an effect. The black beetles formed a flesh shield in front of the human Spirit King, forcing him to slaughter his way through and waste his time. The blinding firefly formation distracted Jasmine enough that her attacks lost a great deal of accuracy.

Taking advantage of this, Queen Sundew retreated to the edge of the forest to recover. She had lost a frightening amount of spiritual energy in the first few clashes. She almost couldn’t hold on at some moments. Going up against two ordinary Spirit Kings was a challenge, these two freaks were simply overwhelming.

From behind her, a swarm of strange insects appeared. They were like giant ants but they each had a round belly that seemed to be made of glass. Each one was filled to the brim with what seemed like golden nectar, filled with deliciousness and vitality.

Queen Sundew spread out her limbs and sucked in a deep breath. Her Dao of life activated once more, connecting with these honeypot ants, instantly sucking the juices out of several hundred of them.

The ants curled up and died, the rich spiritual energy stories within their belly having been expended. Queen Sundew’s depleted spiritual sea was filled up as a result. But it was only by a small amount. It was far from enough. A fresh batch of honeypot ants appeared and sacrificed themselves for the sake of their queen. Then another.

As she recovered, several more armies arrived and joined the fight. Giant mantises took to the sky, forming a dense net around Jasmine, blocking her line of sight to the queen. Other beetles crawled on top of their giant brethren and launched streams of acidic black goo at the human male and his turtle shield.

These forces of mortal insects were impressive. Against Spirit Lords, they might have even forced the enemy to retreat. However, against Spirit Kings, it was only a matter of time.

Queen Sundew knew this but she didn’t hesitate to throw her precious armies to die. They had to buy time for her, for her mantis lords to return. With her four Spirit Lord Realm children, she would feel more confident about surviving this ordeal. Four was not enough to equal a Spirit King but it was enough to not get slaughtered so easily. They would allow her to flee while covering her back.

She had to get help, she had to call her allies. She wasn’t dumb enough to stay here. There was the toad king to the north and the monkey king to the south. The monkey king was a little stronger but she didn’t trust it as much. It was too smart, too much like a human. She suspected that it was even closer to becoming an origin beast than her.

She made up her mind and glanced towards the north. Thankfully, the toad king was home today. She turned back to the carnage of what used to be her domain. Jasmine and the human had pretty much decimated her forces.

She snarled at them in defiance. Jasmine was a special case. Even if all three beast kings were facing only Jasmine, Queen Sundew would still be afraid. However, this human would pay. He would pay for his arrogance, for attacking her home. She swore that she would bite off his dick for dinner tonight.
