Chapter 191: New Threat

Boom!

A thundering sound emanated deep within Mo Jian's body. His body shook, and a bead of sweat dripped from the corner of his head.

He exhaled and inhaled slowly as he opened his eyes. A faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

"Core Refining Realm stage-5," he muttered.

After eating the Tier-2 Spirit Food, he had suppressed his breakthrough to attend to Ma Li.

With that out of the way, he could no longer suppress his cultivation and went into seclusion.

Now, four hours later, he had his breakthrough.

Mo Jian rose and stretched his body. Although he only broke through a stage, he got stronger and brought himself closer to the strongest powerhouse of the continent.

"With my current realm, I should be one of the strongest younger generation of our continent," he whispered with a confident smirk.

Quickly, he took a quick bath and changed his robe. Coming out of his room, he saw Zhao Tian waiting for him at the entrance.

"Young Master…" Zhao Tian called and approached him, his face filled with urgency.

"Why don't you answer your Spirit Link?" he demanded.

"I was cultivating," Mo Jian replied. "What's going on? Why do you seem so worried?"

"I received a message from the Southern Region capital. Someone is targeting us, and they need your presence," he reported with a solemn voice.

Hmm?

Mo Jian creased his brow.

Why would anyone target their chamber?

Was the last lesson not enough?

He threw all the unnecessary thoughts out of his mind and focused on what was important.

"Did the message say who was targeting us?" he demanded.

"No… but if you return, you will find out."

"Alright." He nodded and took out his Spirit Link. Instantly, he saw the flooded missed calls and messages.

"Someone dares to target the water reservoir?" he muttered, his face filled with both shock and anger.

Zhao Tian was furious! Those bastards!

"Young Master, what are you going to do now?"

"I'm leaving immediately. Get all my things; I'm departing in ten minutes." He commanded and returned to his room to prepare for his departure.

Zhao Tian nodded and left briskly.

Things could not be delayed.

They thought they had conquered the Southern Region, but they were wrong. Some hid themselves enough not to be discovered.

But this time around, they would make sure to uproot them.

Ten minutes later, Mo Jian entered the Skyrunner and took his seat at the VIP section. Shortly, the Skyrunner began to move, and in a few seconds it picked up speed.

Whoosh!

Like a comet, the Skyrunner shot through the underground tunnel. Its speed had already broken through the speed of sound, and it was still climbing.

When its speed attained Mach 5, it stopped and maintained the constant speed.

In a few minutes, the Skyrunner had long departed from the Western Region, racing toward the Southern Region.

Southern Region Capital.

Inside the Thousand Wealth Chamber, Miss Yang and the various heads of department were seated in the conference room.

A solemn expression etched on their faces.

"Do we know who did this?" she asked.

"We don't know." A middle-aged man in charge of the chamber security responded by shaking his head. "They appeared and disappeared like shadows."

"This is not good. Not good at all." Miss Yang shook her head. "What would we tell the Young Master when he returns from his travelling?"

When they heard, all the departments felt their backs drenched in cold sweat.

This was failure on their part, and the Young Master hated failure. They looked at each other, unsure of how to react.

"I think the perpetrators are not Core Refining Realm warriors," an old man said in deep thought.

Hmm?

"What do you mean? Are you saying this is the work of a Golden Core expert?" Miss Yang asked with wide eyes.

How could a Golden Core expert be so idle, wasting his precious time attacking their water reservoir and poisoning the river?

"Yes," the old man nodded. "Let's think about it. Apart from a Golden Core expert, can you think of anyone that could bypass our defense?"

Hmm?

The conference room was silent. Slowly, they began to understand what the old man was insinuating.

Indeed, the chamber had many Peak Core Refining warriors at their disposal. There was no way a Peak or even Half-Step Golden Core could bypass them.

Then…

Coming to such realization, all the department heads looked at each other in shock.

Indeed, apart from a Golden Core expert, no one could attack them without them knowing.

"Miss Yang, please report this to Miss Xu immediately," one of them said urgently.

"I'll do that immediately," she responded and rushed out of the room.

With a target in hand, she could finally breathe a sigh of relief. At least they knew who the enemies were.

In a basement with a single dim light. At the center was an old wooden table covered in cracks, and around it were a few wooden chairs.

Suddenly, light footsteps came from the distance. A human clad in a black robe and black hood.

The human took a seat and waited patiently. After a few minutes, the sound of footsteps could be heard once again.

With the arrival of the second human, the human took a seat. Clad in a black robe, black hood, with a faceless mask.

The two humans did not look at each other, throwing the room into a still silence.

After a couple of minutes, footsteps could be heard again. When the last person arrived, the two humans raised their heads and looked at him.

Like them, the last person was also clad in a black robe with a hood over his head and a faceless mask.

"What took you so long?" the first arrival demanded in a cold female voice.

"Humph! What do you know?" the last arrival snorted in a male voice. "Unlike you who can move freely, I can't. I need to be careful."

"Enough of your excuse. How is it? Did you succeed?" she asked sharply.

"What do you take me for? How can I not succeed?" he responded, his voice filled with disdain. "How could a mere Core Refining warrior detect me?"

"Good." Her sharp voice reduced, and she turned to the second person to arrive.

"Your poison did not work? You have to do something."

"I know." The second person said slowly. His voice was barely audible. If not for the quiet basement, they wouldn't have heard his voice.

"I did not expect their artifact to detect my poison. But don't worry, give me two days, I'll come out with a traceless poison that it will be impossible for anything to detect it."

"Alright. You have two days. This plan can't be delayed too much," she said solemnly. "As long as we complete this mission, you will receive what I promised you."

"That will be good. I'm risking a lot doing this mission," the last man responded.

"Stop whining like a kid. Continue with the destruction. Also, you can start attacking their chambers," she said coldly.

"Hahaha. That's what I love most. I've been dying for fresh meat today." His evil laughter echoed in the basement.

Inside the Skyrunner, Mo Jian was seated with a solemn expression. He had been thinking, trying to come up with a likely suspect, but no one came to his mind.

He had rounded up all his enemies and destroyed them all at once. As for those he left alive, their time was limited.

Their lives were in his hands. If he found anything suspicious about them, he would have them killed immediately.

Thus, he did not think of them.

"Who can it be?" he thought out loud.

Just then, his Spirit Link vibrated, jolting him out of his mind.

He picked it up and checked the notification. It was a message from Elder Xu Bin.

Reading the message, he creased his brow.

"A Golden Core expert?"

Why would a Golden Core expert destroy the water reservoir and also poison the river?

That doesn't make sense.

Without thinking too much about it, he called the sect. Since a Golden Core expert had become a suspect, he couldn't return without calling for one.

He called Supreme Elder Zhao for backup.

Even if they thought they could threaten him with a Golden Core expert, they were wrong.

He did not know where his enemies got the confidence to threaten him with a Golden Core expert, but they had made a mistake.

Just then, the Skyrunner began to slow down, and a chime came from the door. Mo Jian stood and left the Skyrunner.

Coming out of the Skyrunner, Elder Xu Bin was already waiting for him.

"Tell me everything," he commanded.

"Yes, Young Master." She nodded and told him everything.

Mo Jian listened without any change in his expression. In his mind, he had already declared the person dead.

He did not care if they were one or many people. All of them would be slaughtered without any mercy.

"Get me the Broken Moon Consortium," he commanded as they left the underground tunnel.
