Chapter 220: Intimidate Who?
The following day, a shocking rumor spread throughout Red Stone Town.
At first, no one believed the rumor. But the sudden deployment of the town guards to a particular inn spoke volumes about how real the news was.
"Hahaha! It's been many years since I last witnessed this." A middle-aged man sat inside a tavern, surrounded by other merchants.
"I bet they're from a new merchant group coming to the Central Region for the first time." Another merchant added, taking a swig from his wine jar.
"Who knows which merchant it is?" A woman asked.
"How would we know?" Another responded with contempt. "I guess it would be bad if they were taught one or two lessons by the Town Chief."
The traveling merchants discussed the event over their wine without any care.
To them, they had long gotten used to the terror of the Town Chief. Perhaps, not to the Town Chief but to the power backing him.
Now, they were patiently waiting for the destruction of the merchant that failed to learn the cold, bitter lesson of Red Stone Town.
Unfortunately for them and everyone in Red Stone Town, the Thousand Wealth Chamber was unlike any other merchant.
Outside a particular inn, hundreds of guards surrounded it with their weapons drawn.
They barricaded everywhere, not allowing anyone in or out.
Across the street, a crowd had already gathered, discussing the scene with pity and amusement.
Inside the inn, the members of the Thousand Wealth Chamber walked back and forth without any fear on their faces.
As for the guards stationed outside, they were nothing but ants.
Some of the servants even made fun of them.
"Do they think they can intimidate us with those weak men?" A female servant whispered to her friend.
"What do you expect?" Her friend responded with a light chuckle. "I guess they were too greedy to take notice of how strong our men were."
And indeed, the guards had failed to notice the overwhelming number of Peak Core Refining Realm warriors among the guards.
Additionally, among the guards, the weakest of them were at the Intermediate Core Refining Realm, stage 4.
With such a force, how could the Town Chief think his guards with a few Peak Core Refining Realm could pose a threat to them?
Seated by the window on the highest floor, Mo Jian watched the guards below with a light smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
"Interesting…" He whispered as he averted his gaze and looked at Zhao Tian who had just entered.
"Young Master, are we not going to respond?" Zhao Tian asked.
"We're going to respond, but first, how is it?" He asked.
Zhao Tian took a seat across, and a greedy smile appeared on his face.
"Young Master, you won't believe this. In this barren town, there are a lot of mines around it. Unfortunately, they are controlled by the ancient family who supports the Town Chief." He shook his head dejectedly.
"We don't need to worry about that. When we reach the capital, we can acquire as much as we want." Mo Jian replied.
"How about the western gate?"
"It is on close-down with a lot of guards guarding it."
"Oh!" He raised his brow. "I guess we have to unclose it then."
He rose to his feet and looked at his friend. "What do you say? We walk around the town for the last time before we leave?"
"Hahaha. I thought you wouldn't ask." Zhao Tian grinned and rose to his feet.
With that, the two left the room, heading downward. This was Mo Jian's habitual manner of studying each town or city they reached.
He loved to walk around and see the inhabitants' lifestyles.
From this casual walk, he had discovered many talented people and many business ideas that he added to a list of things to incorporate into the Thousand Wealth Chamber.
Coming out of the inn, the Town Guard commander sneered when he saw the young men walking toward them.
"Stop! By the order of the–"
Before he could complete his statement, Mo Jian looked at Lonely Spear and said,
"What are you waiting for? Do you need an invitation before you kill them?"
Hmm?!
The town guards and those watching across the street were stunned.
Did they hear correctly?
Kill the town guards?
Is he insane?
However, before anyone could realize what was happening, a silhouette blurred and appeared before the commander and struck.
Lonely Spear was like a viper, going for his heart.
There was no flashy move.
It was only a killing move.
"Shit!" The guard commander widened his eyes in disbelief but responded in time.
Bang!
The commander's broad saber collided with the spear and horrifying force went through his body.
Ahhh!
He staggered backward. His hand trembled from the force, and he could barely hold on to his weapon.
Unfortunately for him, Lonely Spear would not give him the chance to recover as his next attack was already before him.
Ahhh!
A soul-rending scream escaped from the guard commander as the spear pierced his heart, coming out from his back.
Lonely Spear's attack was merciless and brutal.
The commander's eyes were filled with shock and regret.
Lonely Spear snorted and withdrew his spear, allowing the commander's dead body to fall to the cold, hard ground.
Watching the scene, the guards were frozen on the spot.
From the beginning to the end, the fight lasted less than five seconds. Yet, their proud commander was already dead.
"Is there anyone who wants to stop us again?" Mo Jian asked calmly, his gaze locked on the now trembling guards.
Huh!
The vice commander felt his spine drenched in cold sweat. This was the first time he thanked heaven for making him the vice.
Forcefully, he swallowed the lump in his throat and shook his head.
Without waiting for Mo Jian, he shifted to the side to make way for him. Quickly, all the guards followed his action.
It was as if they were making way for a very important guest, not an offender.
Mo Jian chuckled and walked through the path provided by the guards with both hands clasped on his back.
If they thought they could intimidate him, they were in for a hell of a ride.
