Chapter 281

He was consequently assigned to protect Neon. Alongside Baise, Basho, and Melody, the four of them served as her bodyguards, with Squala's partner Aliza and two other maids, making a total of six people surrounding Neon.

Today, Light Nostrade, considering Neon's safety, planned to send her away. He specially granted her a day off to indulge in a shopping spree.

With Kurapika around, Neon's activities were significantly restricted. As a result, her shopping experience was far from satisfactory, and she wore a constant pout on her face.

This was a testament to Kurapika's thorough protection. Even Chrollo, who had been observing from the shadows, couldn't help but admire Kurapika's skills.

However, there were places even he couldn't cover.

The crowded mall provided an opportunity when Neon went to the restroom. Naturally, Kurapika couldn't follow her inside.

As for the women, Baise and Melody? Well, their hands were full with shopping bags, leaving them unable to assist.

Basho was in an even worse state, burdened with various items hanging from his neck and head.

Under these circumstances, Neon was in a single-stall restroom, planning her escape. Then, she heard a man's voice from the adjacent stall.

"Miss, you seem to be in some trouble. Do you need any help?" Chrollo asked from the next stall.

Initially, Neon was startled by the presence of a man in the women's restroom, thinking a pervert had snuck in.

Yet, Chrollo, having prepared in advance, quickly dispelled her wariness with a few words.

With minimal assistance from Chrollo through ventilation ducts and other means, she successfully escaped, feeling a newfound sense of freedom, as if breaking free from chains and constraints, like a fish leaping into the vast ocean.

This left her grateful to Chrollo. Moreover, Chrollo's handsome and delicate appearance made Neon more than willing to accompany him.

Thus, this capricious, spoiled girl, lacking any crisis awareness, was effortlessly led to Chrollo's goal.

Kurapika was the first to notice something amiss.

Considering the typical time a woman spends in the restroom, along with Neon's age and bladder capacity, plus time spent on makeup and venting frustration...

Realizing Neon should have emerged by now, the analytical Kurapika immediately sent Melody to check the women's restroom, only to discover Neon's escape.

The group had no choice but to report to their boss and search for Neon's whereabouts.

However, for some reason, the boss's phone was unreachable. Kurapika used his Nen ability to conjure a weapon, successfully tracking Neon's direction.

The group of four planned for Melody to update the boss while the other three continued pursuing Neon.

Following Kurapika's directions, they soon found Neon in a secluded café, alongside Chrollo, who was calmly sipping coffee.

"To find this place so quickly, you really are dedicated as bodyguards," Chrollo remarked with a smile, holding his coffee.

"What have you done to our boss?!" Kurapika demanded in a low voice, his eyes narrowing at Neon, who lay motionless on the table.

He drew his ever-present conjured sword and dagger from his back.

"Don't worry, she's fine. Just tired from playing and fell asleep," Chrollo explained simply. "Well, I've had a pleasant evening with Miss Neon, and my purpose is fulfilled. When she wakes, please tell her I said goodbye, as I've already left."

With that, Chrollo rose to leave, but Kurapika stood firm, unmoving. Basho and Baise flanked him, blocking Chrollo's path.

"Taking our boss to such a place, and now she's unconscious...," Basho said, gripping his haiku papers. "We can't let you leave so easily!"

"Please tell us, who exactly are you?!" Baise added sternly, sensing something unusual about Chrollo.

He exuded an aura distinct from other Nen users they had encountered. This was undoubtedly a formidable opponent, and a difficult one at that!

"This person is a member of the Phantom Troupe," Kurapika suddenly spoke, revealing the truth.

"Phantom Troupe?!" Basho and Baise's eyes widened in shock.

---

"Are you sure?!"

"Yes." Kurapika nodded. "I've followed the Phantom Troupe closely for a while. I remember every image of them that's been circulated.

This person is definitely one of the Phantom Troupe members, and perhaps... even their leader!"

The leader of the Phantom Troupe?! Basho and Baise were once again taken aback.

They never imagined they would encounter the head of the world's most notorious criminal group, the one constantly on the Ten Dons' radar, in such a place!

"I thought I had disguised myself well enough, but I guess I was still recognized," Chrollo chuckled wryly, placing his hand on the white cloth on his head.

After the incident in the Kingdom of Mosesbia, his photo had been released, so it was understandable for someone to remember him.

The other party did mention having paid close attention to the Phantom Troupe.

"May I ask why you were interested in the Troupe?" Chrollo casually asked Kurapika, seemingly trying to lighten the atmosphere before any potential conflict.

"Are you looking to join us, or are you like those bounty hunters who come seeking trouble, aiming to capture us all?"

Kurapika didn't answer Chrollo's question, instead staring intently at him. "Is there someone named Morin in your Phantom Troupe?!"

"You all know someone named Morin, and I'm the only one who doesn't?!" Basho thought, bewildered.

"Do you know Morin?" Chrollo glanced at Kurapika again and chuckled. "It seems Morin has quite a wide circle of acquaintances, even among bodyguards of mafia families."

Baise, hearing Kurapika's question, also looked at him with a hint of surprise. She hadn't expected someone around her to know Morin.

Given Kurapika's usual demeanor, it made sense why he might know Morin. Talented individuals don't usually associate with mediocrity.

"He's our deputy leader, on the same level as me, though he's much stronger," Chrollo stirred his coffee, smiling. "I had a feeling you already knew this."

"I only knew that Morin was strong and a member of the Phantom Troupe," Kurapika replied solemnly. "This is the first time I've heard he's your deputy leader."

The deputy leader is stronger than the leader? Basho struggled to wrap his head around this concept.

In his understanding, the leader of a criminal group is usually the strongest. Being second seemed odd.

"That's what sets the Phantom Troupe apart from other organizations," Chrollo remarked, as if reading Basho's thoughts. "Since you know Morin and are standing here unharmed, you must have his approval."

"In Morin's honor, I won't harm you. I hope you'll let me pass," Chrollo continued, but Kurapika and the others remained unmoved.

"Is that so? With such resolve, there's nothing more to be done," Chrollo sighed, seemingly regretful. He slowly opened his arms, his aura beginning to surge.

"I haven't harmed your boss. She's perfectly fine, just asleep. But if you insist on opposing me, I will have to act," Chrollo said, his eyes deepening.

He glanced at Kurapika and Baise, recognizing their formidable strength, though Basho seemed less skilled. Even so, they might not be a match for him.

"This is the pressure from the leader of the Phantom Troupe?" Kurapika's instincts screamed of danger. Basho's forehead was already glistening with sweat, and Baise's body was tense.

As the tension in the room reached its peak, Baise suddenly spoke up. "Since we all know Morin, why not let him mediate between us?"

Under the watchful eyes of everyone, Baise suggested, pulling out her phone to make a call.

Her actions were closely observed by Chrollo, and a hint of surprise flickered in his eyes as he realized she was genuinely dialing.
