Chapter 294

It was like turning on a faucet; once the first one took the lead, the second and third followed suit.

Uvogin and Nobunaga didn't choose to pursue their victory. Instead, they stood there with a satisfied and refreshed expression.

Taking down so many mafia members had truly allowed them to indulge in their desires.

On the high slope, Kurapika gazed at the defeated mafia, decisively turning to leave.

He had come here only to stall the Phantom Troupe, allowing Hisoka to complete his goal.

Now that his tasks were done and the mafia was either dead or wounded, this assault was essentially a complete failure.

Their attempt to gang up only to be slaughtered was a true reflection of the mafia's predicament.

Kurapika wouldn't stay and fight to the death with the members of the Phantom Troupe for the sake of these mafia members.

His next step was to settle all matters of the Nostrade family and then wait for Hisoka to deliver his promised reward. Of course, this was based on the assumption that Hisoka survived.

What if Hisoka was defeated and killed in battle? Kurapika pondered this as his phone rang again.

"Hello? Can you hear me? It's Illumi." A familiar voice came through the phone.

"I'm Killua's older brother. We met during the final round of the Hunter Exam," Illumi introduced himself.

"What do you want?" Kurapika recognized Illumi's voice and asked cautiously. Illumi's impression on him during the final round was unforgettable.

It made Kurapika feel that, aside from Killua, the rest of the Zoldyck family were basically psychopaths. Well, in some respects, that wasn't entirely wrong.

"Nothing much. Hisoka asked me earlier that if you completed the task he entrusted to you, I should give you the reward he left with me," Illumi's tone was unchanged.

"A reward? For me?" Kurapika was taken aback. He had thought Hisoka would give him the reward himself. It turned out it was pre-deposited with Illumi for him to pass on.

"Was he worried he might be defeated and killed in battle and unable to fulfill the agreement, so he arranged everything in advance?" Kurapika thought silently.

"But if he could leave the reward with Killua's brother, then Hisoka's relationship with Killua's brother must be quite unusual." While he was thinking this, Illumi continued on the phone:

"When shall we meet? Where?"

"Just at..." After discussing the time and place to meet, Kurapika hung up the phone. He looked up at the bright full moon in the sky and suddenly let out a long sigh.

Everything that had happened over these past days was finally coming to an end. All things considered, it was time to put a period on it all.

When Chrollo and Morin returned to the abandoned building base, the first thing they saw was the ground littered with mafia corpses and the thick scent of blood.

However, neither of them paid it any mind as they stepped over the sea of bodies and blood to enter the building.

At this time, all the members of the troupe had gathered together.

"Boss, Morin, you're back!" Uvogin, with his usual boisterous nature, casually greeted them upon their return.

"I knew that Hisoka guy was trouble. Turns out he really betrayed us!" Uvogin fumed.

"Maybe it was him who leaked the secret, leading the mafia to attack us." Uvogin's guess was actually spot on.

"If it weren't for you, boss, telling us to stand down, we might have caught up with that guy," Phinks said, punching his fist into his palm.

"Though I don't know who that guy was, since he could disguise himself as Hisoka, he must be in cahoots with him.

Once we capture him and torture him, we might find out Hisoka's whereabouts and intentions, and take them all down," Feitan added.

The others nodded in agreement.

"Enough about that. Where's Omokage?" Chrollo casually changed the subject. "How is he?"

At the mention of Omokage, Chrollo noticed Feitan's demeanor darkened a few degrees.

"That guy ended his own life while we were outside fighting," Feitan said in a low voice, clearly displeased with the outcome.

He had finally managed to capture Omokage as his prisoner, and there were so many tricks he hadn't had the chance to try on Omokage yet.

---

Seizing the moment when they were not paying attention, Omokage chose to end his own life, much to Feitan's irritation.

"Dead? Well, that's a decent outcome," Chrollo nodded slightly. Even if Omokage hadn't taken his own life, Chrollo would have ensured his end.

Regardless of Omokage's Nen abilities, Chrollo wouldn't allow such a deranged and unstable individual to remain a threat in the world. His self-inflicted demise saved Chrollo the trouble.

"So, Boss," Shalnark raised his hand, "we've secured the auction items, Omokage is dead, we've unmasked Hisoka, and we've decimated the attacking mafia. Does this mean our mission is complete?"

"Given that, is there anything else we need to do?" Shalnark's curiosity was shared by the other Phantom Troupe members, all of whom turned their attention to Chrollo and Morin, awaiting instructions for their next move.

Regarding Hisoka and the search for a new number four, the Phantom Troupe's collective action was drawing to a close.

"As for the next steps," Chrollo slowly surveyed the room, noticing all eyes on him. He chuckled softly, closing his eyes gently. "As Shalnark mentioned, our objectives for this operation have been achieved. Do we have any reason to linger here?"

Images of events in Yorknew City flashed through his mind, along with his meticulous plans.

They had eliminated all the Shadow Beasts, acquired the auction items, exposed Hisoka, engaged in a deadly duel, killed the Ten Dons, and wiped out the mafia sent against them. This collective operation had been quite successful.

"Everyone?" Confirming his thoughts, Chrollo slowly opened his eyes. "Our collective action ends here. From now on, you're free to disperse and act independently!"

Chrollo's voice was not loud, yet it resonated clearly in everyone's ears.

"So, it's over already?" Uvogin smacked his lips, still feeling unsatisfied.

"It wasn't very fulfilling," Phinks agreed, arms crossed. He had spent most of the time playing mahjong, only making a significant appearance during the final mafia assault.

"A couple of days... about the same as our first group operation," Nobunaga mused, tugging at his beard without much emotion.

"It feels like we didn't do much, and now it's over," Kortopi said to Bonolenov. They had barely left the base, maintaining a low profile throughout the operation. Pakunoda, nearby, was much the same.

"So, Boss, what's next for you?" Machi asked Chrollo, though her eyes subtly glanced at Morin beside him.

"I plan to convert some of the auction items into cash and then return to Meteor City," Chrollo replied with a smile. "I'll also look for a new number four."

The Phantom Troupe often engaged in robbery and murder, occasionally dabbling in charity.

They were also major financial supporters of Meteor City's military forces and had good relations with the Elders. These activities required funding.

"Looking for a new number four?" Franklin pondered, cautiously offering his opinion. "This time, perhaps someone who fits in well with us?"

Franklin swallowed the words "reliable" and "sane."

"Perhaps, though it's hard to say for certain," Chrollo chuckled. "Of course, if any of you have promising candidates, feel free to recommend them, and I'll evaluate them."

"A promising candidate..." An image popped into Franklin's mind.

"When I last returned to Meteor City, there was someone quite capable. She's a Conjurer with impressive Nen abilities, potentially very useful in certain areas.

As for her personality... well, she's a bit odd, quite aloof, almost to the point of being indifferent to everything."
