Chapter 15: chapter 15

That evening, Inko Midoriya walked home from shopping, her arms carrying bags filled with groceries.

As she walked, her thoughts drifted to her son.

Izuku…

Ever since his quirk assessment as a child, he had changed. Instead of giving up, he matured beyond his years. He refused to break under society's judgment. Instead, he built himself up—training, studying, and even starting his own company.

Yes, Izuku had never hidden the truth from her. She knew everything. And she couldn't be prouder.

Tomorrow is his birthday.

She smiled. She had already prepared a special gift for him. It wasn't much, but she hoped it would bring him happiness.

But as she continued walking, she failed to notice the eyes watching her from the shadows.

A figure lurked in the darkness, following her every step.

When Inko entered a narrow alley, a man suddenly emerged from the darkness.

He wore a black mask, his posture tense, and his voice distorted as he tried to imitate a typical thug—

"Woman, give me your money and that diamond necklace."

There was something off about him.

His words lacked conviction. His body was trembling.

It was clear he wasn't just after money—something was forcing him to do this.

But Inko didn't care about his reasons.

Panic surged through her veins.

"I-I can give you all my money, but please... you can't take this necklace."

With shaky hands, she pulled out her cash, earrings, and rings, offering them without hesitation.

But the man's rage flared.

"I said… GIVE ME THAT NECKLACE!"

He lunged forward, his hand shifting into a sharp, blade-like shape, reaching for her neck.

Inko, overwhelmed by fear, activated her quirk instinctively.

A fatal mistake.

The man's trajectory shifted—what was meant to snatch the necklace ended up stabbing into her throat.

The moment he felt warm blood against his skin, his eyes widened in horror.

"N-no… I didn't mean to—!"

His trembling hands caught the heart-shaped diamond pendant as it slipped from her neck. The locket snapped open from the impact.

Inside, there was a photo—

A smiling Inko, holding a three-year-old boy with bright green hair.

The man's mind went blank.

Regret.

Panic.

Terror.

"I'm sorry! I'M SORRY! I DIDN'T MEAN IT!"

He turned and ran—fleeing into the night, leaving behind a dying woman in a pool of her own blood.

Inko collapsed onto the cold pavement, her vision blurring.

Her trembling fingers reached out—not toward the man, but toward the air itself.

As if searching for something.

For someone.

"I...zu...ku..."

Her lips repeated the name, her voice weak, filled with longing and love.

Her breaths became shallow.

Then, they stopped.

—And Izuku saw everything.

Sitting on the sofa at home, his eyes remained locked onto the floating screen before him.

His Soul State had unknowingly activated, showing him the final moments of the woman who had raised him.

Yet, he did not move.

He did not scream.

He did not react.

He simply watched.

As Inko took her last breath, his gaze fell onto the necklace she had refused to give up.

It was the same necklace he had given her when his company made its first profit.

His eyes darkened with unreadable emotions.

"She loved the original Izuku..."

"But me... she never even knew."

A bitter smile crept onto his lips, his eyes filled with an emotion even he couldn't describe.

And in that silence, a mother tears fell.
