Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Surprising Poké Balls and Pokédex
Seeing the confused expressions on their faces, Ryo began explaining.
"The higher the level of Pokéblocks, the greater the benefit they provide to Pokémon. They can enhance training results, and with long-term consumption, premium Pokéblocks can even improve a Pokémon's overall attributes."
The group stared at Ryo in disbelief, their eyes full of doubt. How could something you eat have that kind of effect?
Ryo noticed their skepticism and continued, "Of course, the level of Pokéblocks should match the Pokémon's strength. If the Pokémon's power isn't enough to absorb the energy, it might do more harm than good."
The group nodded in understanding and decided not to ask more about Pokéblocks.
"Boss, what are these Poké Balls and Pokédex on the list?" Sakura pointed at the paper, her curiosity piqued.
"Those are hard to explain. Let me give you a demonstration."
Ryo pulled out Dragonite's Poké Ball. "Dragonite, return."
A beam of light shot out from the Poké Ball, hitting Dragonite. In an instant, Dragonite vanished into the ball.
Everyone's eyes widened in shock, and an eerie silence filled the room. If not for the other Pokémon still happily playing nearby, they might have thought time had stopped.
"Brother Ryo, are you a wizard? Can you make things disappear?" Naruto's awestruck voice broke the silence.
The others rolled their eyes, their mouths twitching at Naruto's innocent question.
"Ahem."
Kakashi gave Naruto a sidelong glance before turning to Ryo. "Mr. Ryo, is this a device for storing Pokémon?"
Ryo nodded. "You could say that. I prefer to think of it as their house. Don't be fooled by the Poké Ball's small size—it has plenty of space inside for a Pokémon to live and move around."
"Then... can it store other items?" Kakashi's lips twitched slightly as he asked.
Ryo shook his head. "Kakashi, I know what you're thinking, but unfortunately, no. Poké Balls can only store Pokémon."
"Ah, I see."
Kakashi sighed in disappointment but didn't press the issue.
Ryo released Dragonite from the ball and purchased a Pokédex from the system's shop. The group watched with curiosity as Ryo pulled out another device.
"This is a Pokédex. Let me show you how it works."
Ryo turned on the Pokédex and scanned Pikachu. The device lit up and began speaking.
[Pikachu]
[Gender]: Female
[Category]: Mouse Pokémon
[Type]: Electric
[Ability]: Lightning Rod (Immune to most Electric-type attacks; boosts own Electric-type moves.)
[Level]: 5 (Genin-level)
[Moves]: Tail Whip, Thunder Shock, Growl
As soon as the Pokédex finished scanning, the screen displayed Pikachu's image and detailed information.
"This... can detect a Pokémon's information?" Kakashi's eyes widened in surprise.
Naruto and the others were equally shocked and turned to Ryo for confirmation.
Ryo nodded. "That's right."
"What about the ability and level? And what's this 'Genin-level'?" Kakashi asked.
"Abilities are like talents. Even if two Pokémon are of the same species, their abilities can be different. Some abilities are more common, while others are rare. Kakashi, you're pretty lucky—Lightning Rod is a rare ability."
Kakashi nodded. Even without fully understanding it, the description alone made it clear how valuable the ability was. Immunity to most Electric-type attacks and a boost to Electric-type moves? That was incredible.
"As for levels, they're a way to measure a Pokémon's strength. The 'Genin-level' comparison is just to help you relate it to your ninja ranks."
Kakashi nodded again, satisfied with the explanation.
"Brother Ryo, can you scan Bulbasaur for me?" Naruto asked eagerly.
"Of course." Ryo picked up the Pokédex and scanned Bulbasaur.
[Bulbasaur]
[Gender]: Male
[Category]: Seed Pokémon
[Type]: Grass/Poison
[Ability]: Overgrow (Grass-type moves become twice as strong when HP is low.)
[Level]: 7 (Chūnin-level)
[Moves]: Tackle, Growl, Leech Seed
"Haha! My Bulbasaur is level 7, stronger than Kakashi-sensei's Pikachu!" Naruto laughed proudly.
The others were speechless at Naruto's reaction.
Kakashi ignored Naruto's gloating. His mind focused on the information displayed, making connections between Bulbasaur's abilities and the battle earlier. Tackle must have been that charging attack. Growl was probably the move that disrupted emotions. And Leech Seed—no doubt that was the move that drained energy from the grass.
"Mr. Ryo, isn't it strange that Bulbasaur only knows a few moves?" Kakashi asked thoughtfully.
"Pokémon learn more moves as they level up. Let me show you."
Ryo scanned Dragonite with the Pokédex.
The screen lit up, revealing a long list of Dragonite's abilities.
Naruto exclaimed in shock, "Whoa! Brother Ryo, Dragonite knows almost 30 moves! And it's level 90!"
The others were stunned. Sakura covered her mouth in disbelief. Even Kakashi, who had anticipated something impressive, couldn't hide the solemn look in his eyes.
Sasuke clenched his fist in excitement, gazing at the Charmander in his arms. I'll make you strong too.
"Alright, that's enough for now. Do you have any other questions?" Ryo asked with a smile.
The group shook their heads, and each of them purchased some items before leaving.
A short while later, at the cabin's entrance, Ryo waved at them with a smile. "Come back anytime!"
He couldn't hide his joy. In one visit, they bought three Pokédexes, four Poké Balls, and seven bags of basic Pokéblocks!
With his pricing, a basic Poké Ball cost 2,000 ryo, while a Pokédex was 5,000 ryo. That sale alone had brought him 30,000 ryo!
And it wasn't like these items had any real cost. The Poké Balls only cost 100 system points each, while the Pokédexes cost 200 points. In total, he hadn't even spent 1,500 system points.
"Too bad Naruto's so poor. Otherwise, I could've made an extra 6,000 ryo."
If Kakashi and the others knew what he was thinking, they'd probably look at him like he was a devil. You almost drained Naruto dry, and you're still thinking about more?
『Task Completed: Entrusted a Pokémon to a storyline character. Reward: 1,000 system points and a Bronze Exclusive Chest!』

Hearing the system notification, Ryo's smile grew even wider.
"System, merge the chests?"
"Not yet."
Ryo turned his gaze toward the forest beside the cabin. "I hope things stay peaceful."
He shook his head and walked back inside.
As Ryo left, several masked ninja appeared where his gaze had just lingered.
"Captain, did he notice us?"
The ninja wearing a fox mask nodded. "Let's head back for now."
In an instant, they disappeared into the forest.
