In Naruto, the System Asks Me to Entrust Pokémon

Chapter 33: Chapter 33: You Just Realized?

"Alright, how do we compete?"

Kakashi rolled his eyes but still accepted Guy's challenge.

"Hahaha!"

Guy laughed heartily, hands on his hips. "I knew you wouldn't reject youth, Kakashi. Let's have a Pokémon battle!"

"Are you sure?"

Kakashi was taken aback. Guy had only just received his Pokémon, and he already wanted to battle? Didn't he know that starter Pokémon usually began at level 5?

The others were equally stunned, except for Lee and Naruto.

Lee looked at Guy with admiration, while Naruto, curious as ever, turned to Sasuke and Sakura. "Hey, is that bushy-brow's Pokémon really strong?"

Sasuke and Sakura froze for a second before glancing at Naruto.

"Idiot!"

After a brief pause, Sasuke couldn't help but blurt out.

Naruto stared at him in confusion. "Huh? Why are you calling me an idiot just for asking a question?"

Then it clicked, and his face filled with rage. "Stuck-up Sasuke! What did you say?! Fight me one-on-one!"

"Naruto, calm down!" Sakura tried to pull him back.

"Uh-hum—"

Ryo coughed, drawing everyone's attention. "Quiet down, everyone. Kakashi, Guy, if you're going to have a Pokémon battle, follow me to the backyard."

Kakashi glanced at Guy, then nodded at Ryo. "Sorry for the trouble, boss."

Ryo waved it off and led them to the backyard.

Once there, Kakashi and Guy stood on opposite sides of the Pokémon battle field.

Each of them pulled out a Pokéball and released their Pokémon.

"Pika~"

"Machop!"

The two Pokémon first greeted Ryo with a wave before curiously eyeing Kakashi and Guy.

"Pikachu, your opponent wants to challenge you. I'll be counting on you."

"Machop, ignite the flames of youth! Together, let's defeat Kakashi!"

The Pokémon looked at their trainers, then at each other, with puzzled expressions.

Pikachu gave Kakashi a confused glance, as if to ask, Is this for real?

Machop, on the other hand, shot Guy a look that practically screamed, Are you serious?

Pokémon could sense each other's strength, so Machop quickly realized how powerful Pikachu was.

Kakashi noticed Pikachu's questioning gaze and sighed. "Yes, Pikachu, they're really challenging you."

Machop widened its eyes, staring at Guy in disbelief. Did I offend him somehow? It tried to recall any wrongdoing but quickly dismissed the thought—after all, it had only been with Guy for a short time.

"Hahaha!"

Guy laughed again. "Machop, are you excited? This is youth! Let's fight with all we've got!"

The onlookers: "…"

Kakashi facepalmed. "Pikachu, use Quick Attack and end this quickly. Be gentle."

"Pika-Pika~"

Pikachu crouched down, then dashed toward Machop with lightning speed.

"Machop!"

Seeing this, Machop panicked and turned to run. However, the speed difference was too great. Pikachu caught up in an instant and headbutted Machop, sending it crashing into the ground with a thud.

Machop lay on the ground, grimacing in pain.

Guy rushed over, his eyes filled with concern. "Machop, are you okay?"

"Machop…"

Machop weakly shook its head, giving Guy a pitiful look.

"You're saying you can't beat your opponent?" Guy asked, confused.

"Machop!"

Machop nodded rapidly, its eyes filled with relief. Finally, you understand!

Guy was stunned. "Is there really that big a difference in strength between Pokémon?"

Ryo noticed Guy's confusion and couldn't help but comment. "Guy, did you read the Pokémon Encyclopedia?"

Guy nodded. "Of course."

"Then did you check the levels?"

"Yeah, Machop is level 5," Guy replied confidently.

Ryo facepalmed. "Then check Kakashi's Pikachu's level."

Still puzzled, Guy scanned Pikachu with his Pokédex.

"Level 14? Boss, what does that mean?"

Ryo looked at Guy seriously. "It means your Machop is no match for Pikachu. Do you really think it can win with such a big level difference?"

"Ah!"

Guy's eyes lit up with realization. "So levels represent strength? I was wondering what those numbers were for."

Pfft—

Ryo nearly spat out his drink. You've been battling all this time without understanding how strength is determined?!

Even Kakashi and the others couldn't help but twitch their lips in disbelief.

Lee, however, nodded thoughtfully. "Oh, so levels indicate strength. Got it. What's everyone staring at me for? Did I say something wrong?"

Naruto, Tenten, and the others quickly shook their heads but couldn't help looking at Lee differently.

Tenten thought: No wonder they're teacher and student—they're alike in every way.

Naruto and the others exchanged glances with Tenten and Neji.

Tenten crossed her arms. "What are you looking at? I'm not like them, okay? Stop staring!"

She sighed inwardly, considering switching teams. I'm doomed if I stay with them. What if I get infected by their antics?!

Guy finally understood and turned to Machop with an apologetic look. "Machop, I'm sorry."

"Machop~"

Machop shook its head, signaling that it was fine.

Guy clenched his fists and looked at Kakashi. "Kakashi, I lost this time, but I'll definitely win next time!"

Kakashi remained silent. Agreeing to Guy's challenge was like signing up for endless duels.

"Boss, Guy, we'll be leaving now," Kakashi said, hastily gathering Naruto and the others before quickly walking away.

"Kakashi, I'll challenge you again next time!" Guy shouted at their retreating backs.

Hearing that, Kakashi picked up his pace even more.
