Infinite Evolution: My Idle Evolution System

Chapter 154: Hellion's Riddle

As soon as Cassius reached the last step of the stairs, an intoned feminine voice sounded from off to the side. There, sitting on a swiveling golden stool chair, was the extraordinarily gorgeous Hellion. Her eyes, like attentive pools of honey, watched the immortal-like man with deep intrigue.

While sipping on a cup of homebrew coffee, she gave her master a certain kind of look.

Cassius understood this look very well.

Sighing, he said, "HELL… I know that I have to go back, but I am not yet strong enough. Furthermore, there are some things I still need to do on Earth…"

Hellion blinked. Taking another sip, she motioned to the swiveling stool chair beside her.

Cassius took the hint and sat down next to her, where he then heard her say, "Those mortal women of yours? And that Gate… World's End, was it? Child, you know none of this will matter soon enough, don't you?"

Cassius appeared confused. "What do you mean by that?"

"You really don't know…?" Hellion paused to think, then shook her head and said, "Just forget about it, then. But do note that none of those ducklings are what you think they… are. None of it matters. With your unique ability to become stronger faster than everyone else, you should be diverting all your attention elsewhere—"

"I know that already," Cassius interrupted, his tone raspy. "But I can't just leave them be. Especially not after I've become stronger… The cries of this world, they are becoming louder. I fear that if I leave again without resolving the immense threats to the world, they will no longer… be here…"

Hellion stared deeply into the multicolored eyes of this inexplicable man. After a couple of moments, her long eyelashes flickered as she gave him a hint. "Child, if this is your path, then so be it. What you seek lies at the illusion's center, the beginning of all. In there, an Abyss resides. Devour the Abyss and glimpse into the truth, but see too much, and the sky will collapse."

While appraising his emotionless expression, she added, "What is unavoidable will forever remain unavoidable. You will lose two you didn't know you had, regret and sorrow will sink in, then you will unknowingly lose them all."

As one older than most civilizations, Hellion had seen the rises and falls of empires. She also observed the tinier and oftentimes overlooked aspects of the wondrous thing called life. Over time, as she glimpsed more and more of existence across all Seven Dimensions, she eventually acquired the mysterious ability to glimpse not into merely what she could visibly see but also what she could not see.

The futures of many were laid bare to Hellion, all riddles and variables. Yet, out of the many powerful beings she had vaguely seen the futures of, the only two beings she could see nothing of were herself… and the bottomless void before her.

To the Hellish Sphinx, knower of all, articulator of none, this man staring at her was a mystery.

As a mere mortal, she should've been able to see his entire past, present, and future unfold before her. Yet she could see nothing except for a nigh boundless void and faint static images every time she attempted to discern his future.

However, the weirdest thing had to be that Hellion could also not see Cassius's past. Before a certain point, it was like he had never even existed…

It was because of this and her ability to look into the futures of various people, mostly women, that Hellion decided to be subservient to the man who bested her in combat. She wished to see exactly what someone like him would do once he realizes the… truth. And also what would come from that truth.

"Do what you must, Child, but remember the deal we made," Hellion indifferently said before returning to her perusal of a newspaper while sipping tea.

"I remember it," Cassius replied as he began to vanish from view. "I'll inform you of when we'll be re-entering HELL again."

Hellion, acting a little out of character, displayed a faint smile while never turning her eyes away from the newspaper she was reading.

The headline of that newspaper read:

"The Unconquerable Gate, World's End, is about to experience another World-organized Raid! Will the Hunters finally be able to do the impossible!? Or will they fail…?"

The article then went on to speak about the history of the Evolvable Gate before mentioning over 100 S-Rank Hunters who would be participating in the Gate Raid as the Main Striking Force. It also briefly glossed over tens of thousands of names belonging to A-Rank Hunters and B-Rank Hunters who would be waiting on standby just in case any of the Gate's monsters escaped the unbreakable circle of S-Rank Hunters.

This was unquestionably the single largest and most organized Gate Raid in the history of the world!

And it would also be commencing a little less than ten days from now…

When Cassius reappeared, he materialized somewhere in the Antarctic. It was here that a massive, shiny facility covered in snow was erected. Inside this facility, however, was a large, icy blue-purple Gate. The Gate itself was as tall as a multi-storied building and was guarded by C-Rank and B-Rank Awakeners day in and out.

Similar to the Black Gate that housed the corpse of the Leviathan Deity, this Gate was an anomaly and exceeded its apparent Peak-Purple Rank. However, unlike the Leviathan Deity Gate, the inhabitants of this Gate were very much… alive.

But contrary to how normal Gates functioned, the monsters inside this Antarctic Gate were not able to leave the Gate. And from what various governments and powerful Hunters had observed from the monsters inside, there were hundreds upon hundreds of colossal Ice Giants kneeling down in chains that made it impossible for them to fight back.

For even the physically strongest and most adept magic users in the world, none could harm the outer shells of these enormous Ice Giants…
