Alex, who had closed his eyes a while back due to the disappointment of not being able to beat up that cocky bastard because he was sure the guy would be crippled, slowly opened them. And just like everyone else, surprise overshadowed his other emotions ten to one.

Arthur, puzzled by the sudden silence, also opened the eyes filled with delusions of a future that would never come to pass. But when he saw the unbelievable sight before him, the calm way he opened his eyes turned into them rapidly widening in disbelief.

"Th… This… How can this be!?"

Right in front of him stood the emotionless man he planned to completely cripple. That same man appeared unharmed, and in between his index and thumb fingers was the devastatingly sharp tip of his golden lance!

Arthur's golden lance began to crack. The fractures quickly spiderwebbed, and all at once, the lance shattered in his hands.

Arthur stumbled backward in fright and fell on his butt, where his shaky eyes locked with the terrifyingly cold gaze of the horrifying man standing over him. In his terror, he was unable to control his bladder and shamefully soiled himself. By now, the other students would laugh, and Alex would jeer, but they were all too stunned to even consider it.

What was even more surprising was what Arthur, the infamous playboy, did next…

"P-Please don't kill me!!" he cried out, snot and tears running down his groveling face.

With each head bang against the ground came another round of begging. Right now, he was terrified out of his mind! As one of the strongest Awakeners in Hoshito, he was able to accurately discern the insurmountable gap that lay between him and Cassius after their brief exchange.

Cassius indifferently stared at the groveling blonde-haired student. He pondered, then shook his head and stayed his hand.

"Just don't let it happen again," he said as he turned to walk out of the bubble arena.

He was referring to the cruel intent Arthur previously held for him. And as for why he hadn't simply killed this young man and been done with it: first, he was unsure if Arthur was even over the age of 17. Second, the guy was weak; inconsequential. It was pointless to ruin things by murdering a possible minor in public, especially one who posed no threat to himself.

Cassius was not sparing the life of a murderer—just an angered child. One that didn't have even the slightest bit of true killing intent.

Feeling it to be a waste of time to think any more on the matter, he sauntered away from the snot-faced Arthur. He passed by the shell-shocked Alex on his way out, giving him slight pause.

Turning his face toward the spiky red-haired boy, he coldly asked, "Do you still wish to fight as well?"

"!!!"

Alex swiveled his head in the direction of the voice that snapped him out of his reverie, only to see afterimages of afterimages.

"Well?" Cassius asked from beside his ear.

"Wha!?" Alex jumped back and lost his balance, same as his rival. "How did you…!?"

Cassius's eyes narrowed. "You haven't answered my question yet." His innate icy pressure pressed down on the bewildered spiky redhead. "Do you wish to fight or not?"

Alex's pupils trembled as his lashes quivered. He quietly hung his head low, giving the calm black-haired freak all the answer he needed.

"Very well," said Cassius, his slow receding steps weighing heavily on the minds of both defeated boys. "I hope this is the last of the animosity between us."

"!!!" "!!!"

A chilling sensation spiked through the spines of Arthur and Alex as they involuntarily shuddered. They dared not look up, merely nodding their heads to show they understood. All the hatred they once held for the arrogant newbie went up into a puff of smoke, instead replaced by a… deeply seeded… fear…

When Cassius left the outside area and entered through the school building's front doors, hundreds of students suddenly erupted in fervent cheers! They had no idea things would turn out this way!
