Invasion of the United States

Chapter 11: Preparation

The 'Caribbean' cruise's 'terror attack' incident has not yet passed, but there is good news worth celebrating—William Congers has finally been released on bail and left Miami Regional Prison.

To celebrate Congers' return, a dinner is being held.

A white tablecloth was laid over the long table, and silverware shimmered with a subtle glow.

The hired maids were shuttling between the kitchen and the dining room, carefully bringing out plates of steaming hot food.

From golden, crispy lamb chops to fragrant creamy mushroom soup, and vibrant vegetable salads, each dish exuded an inviting aroma.

Julia was the happiest one. To prepare for the dinner, she specially learned a few new dishes in advance and even hired a professional chef to help.

She hoped this meal would make her husband happy and bring more joy and warmth to the family. After all, having been imprisoned for over a month, the changes in Congers were evident.

After his arrest, Congers endured considerable pressure, with more than a dozen lives lost at his hands, some killings necessary but certainly illegal.

Julia and Selena visited the prison two to three times a week to provide encouragement and deliver good news.

But Congers' once robust body had lost quite a bit of weight, and there was a weariness in his eyes. Yet his demeanor had grown even more composed, clearly deeply affected by the prison ordeal. Th#i&s% ve&rs#io!n is s@o$ur$ced fr+om MV3@L3!M!P!Y%R.&

Congers sat at the head of the dining table, though his spirits had not fully recovered, the joy of being reunited with his wife and daughter brought a hint of radiance to his face.

He often gently squeezed Julia's hand, speaking little but full of affection. Julia smiled with the relief of hardships overcome, her eyes filled with tenderness.

Zhou Qingfeng, as the organizer of this family gathering, also invited the Connally family and Old Beck as guests.

The Connallys brought a bottle of vintage red wine as a gift, while Old Beck brought a box of handmade chocolates, beaming as he hoped Zhou Qingfeng would like them.

At the dining table aside from the main guests, there were three bodyguards—Lux, Yeager, and Monica.

Lux and Yeager remained silent as always, sitting in the corner quietly observing everything around them.

Monica, on the other hand, was completely different. She mingled without constraint, occasionally chatting with others or directing the maids, looking more like a hostess than a butler at times.

This assertiveness and confidence made Zhou Qingfeng take a few extra glances at her, secretly pondering her background and intentions.

Before leaving the 'Caribbean', there was first Dias' covert threat, followed by a harsh blow from the woman named Monica.

These past few days, he had been contemplating who he could still trust and who might become a true ally.

Previously, Zhou Qingfeng had thought about finding a base to stockpile supplies and survive the apocalypse, waiting for civilization to recover on its own.

But simulating with his 'past' apocalyptic experience, he realized that being a turtle hiding in its shell wouldn't last long.

Desperate bandits would scour every possible channel for supplies, tracing production, sales, and logistics to find who might be stockpiling supplies somewhere, a common tactic.

Thus, in the apocalypse, one must form alliances, and the larger and more united the team, the better the internal conditions—this alone shattered Zhou Qingfeng's chance of surviving in the United States.

They were not of the same race, let alone the same culture, and among a large number of white, black, and brown people, the few yellow-skinned people were naturally suppressed.

Worse still, there was no unity among the yellow-skinned, even the Chinese were divided. Plenty of people were eager to pander to the foreigners.

Zhou Qingfeng had thought that the safest way was to take his money back to his country—but after Carl Vincent lifted his exit ban, he hesitated.

In hindsight, that might have been his only and last chance to escape the United States' quagmire.

Once Lux and Yeager appeared, Zhou Qingfeng was already under the surveillance of that Department of Homeland Security agent, Dias, and could no longer escape. At least, not with his money.

When the woman named Monica appeared, symbolizing intensified surveillance from the other side, a cage had been crafted for him.

Zhou Qingfeng had envisioned various ways to resist but had little confidence—his enemies controlled considerable violent agencies, capable of openly killing a governor.

If he turned against them, he had no chance of winning.

But...a missed chance is a missed chance, and Zhou Qingfeng didn't regret not escaping the quagmire too much. He began to consider what resources he could still leverage.

Just then, William Congers appeared.

-----------------

The former sheriff, burdened with lawsuits, needed Zhou Qingfeng's money and connections, while Zhou Qingfeng needed a powerful enforcer. The two were highly complementary to each other.

The dinner officially began with Zhou Qingfeng raising his glass first, smiling as he said, "Today is a day worth celebrating.

First, Mr. Congers has successfully secured bail and returned to his family. Second, I want to thank him for his decisive and efficient handling of the Chris Clan's affairs—it really saved me a lot of trouble."

Everyone raised their glasses, toasts came in waves.

Jeff Connally also raised his glass, smiling with his two daughters, "William, it is so good to have you back. We all believe that justice will definitely stand by your side."

Old Beck nodded in agreement, "That's right, Victor promised to help you win the lawsuit. The best criminal team in Florida is defending you, so you can rest assured."

Congers expressed his gratitude one by one, his tone calm yet polite, "Thank you all for your care and support. This period has taught me a lot, and made me cherish the people around me even more."
