Chapter 4: Chapter 4: The Two and Their Fried Potato Balls
---
No matter how uneasy he felt, Ronen knew what he had to focus on now: learning the common language of the continent and understanding the world he'd found himself in.
He swallowed his restlessness and poured all his energy into two things—studying, and deepening his bond with Meteria. After all, in any world, No matter what world, 'knowledge' can play the same role as 'power'.
"You've been in Orario for more than two weeks, do you want to go out for a walk?" Meteria's voice was slow and deliberate, making sure Ronen could follow along and understand.
Because he knew so little of this world, Meteria had guessed that Ronen was from a remote country and was brought here for unknown reasons.
That would explain why he can't understand the language .
But still it made her curious about why he's even bought here.
Orario the so-called center of the world.
"Are you okay?" Ronen asked gently.
Over time, he'd come to realize just how weak Meteria truly was. A few steps often left her short of breath. Meteria doesn't go out often, and she has takeout for three meals a day, so she won't go hungry if she doesn't go out.
Compared to the first bread, it was much richer, it seemed that day was indeed an accident.
Even now, Ronen couldn't help but sigh how incredibly lucky he was have met her.
"It's okay. I'm not that weak, you know,"
Meteria chuckled.
Looking at Meteria's cheerful expression, Ronen said no more, and he was indeed full of curiosity about this world. Truthfully, his curiosity about this world was starting to burn the moment he arrived here. Even though he'd struggled to grasp the language at first, the world itself felt strangely familiar.
Based on what I saw on the first day in Orario, there were no people using magic on the streets, and no magicians flying in the sky with magic props.
Everyone walks, and occasionally there are people who run faster than cheetahs.
Adventurers roamed the roads, but they didn't radiate overwhelming power. Many looked more like thuggish mercenaries than noble warriors. Orario didn't feel like a legendary city—it was more like a rough-edged, bustling town.
Still, it was filled with a wide array of demi-human races: long-eared elves, sharp-sensed beastkin—cat people, dog people, wolfkin, boarmen, tigerfolk . There were tiny people about a meter tall, broad but stout dwarves, and women who dress boldly.
And among them, a few individuals stood out—strikingly beautiful, almost inhumanly so, with gentle smiles that somehow sent chills down Ronen's spine. Like living pieces of cosmic horror in perfect disguise.
Compared to all those strange and intense personalities, someone as pure and kind as Meteria felt like an absolute rarity.
Ronen felt certain now: he must have known something about this world before arriving here. And now that their language barrier had eased, it was time to truly explore it.
"Then let's go," Ronen prepared himself and then went out with Meteria.
Meteria had dressed in a black lolita-style dress, her soft white hair gently curled. Her smile, ever so tender, made her look like a blooming flower.
"The air is really nice here ," Ronen said, taking a deep breath. From the freshness, he guessed this world didn't have a complex industrial system.
They passed through a small alley and stepped onto the main street. Ronen looked around curiously. It was intriguing, yes—but not astonishing.
There were no weapon stalls on every corner, no bizarre magical gadgets. Just everyday goods—grains, fruits, meats. A few taverns dotted the road, with adventurers carrying weapons coming and going.
No floating islands, no World Trees, no sky-high waterfalls. Once the novelty wore off, there was little left to marvel at—except for the distant Babel Tower. After the initial novelty, there is no value in looking forward to it at all.
"How do you feel about this city?"
Meteria looked at Ronen curiously.
Ronen glanced around. He wasn't familiar with these streets, but his reaction wasn't that of someone shocked by the city. If he were really from a remote region, wouldn't he be more surprised? he shouldn't behave like this ....
Curious, Meteria became more and more curious about Ronen.
"It's nice. Everything feels new,"
Ronen said casually..
The streets were crowded, and Ronen kept a careful watch to make sure Meteria wouldn't get bumped. Seeing him so attentive, Meteria gave a playful smile and clung to his arm.
He stiffened for a moment at the sudden touch.
Looking at Ronen like this, Meteria couldn't help but feel funny. She smiled playfully and hugged Ronen's arm.
I could feel his body tremble, and then facing Ronen's gaze, Meteria said with an innocent look: "Be careful, don't get separated."
She kept just a bit of distance—her chest didn't press against him—but in that moment, they looked very much like lovers. Thinking of that made her blush slightly. She shyly released his arm.
But before she could react further, she felt his hand take hers, interlocking their fingers.
"Let's not get separated," he said softly, imitating her tone with chuckled gently.
It felt completely different this time. Walking hand-in-hand through the crowd—it was as if the world was quietly blessing them.
Meteria's face turned bright red, but she didn't pull away. Instead, she lowered her gaze and leaned just a little closer to him.
The two of them strolled down the street in silence, but it wasn't awkward. The warmth in their joined hands spoke louder than words.
"Eh? have we come this far??"
Meteria suddenly stopped and looked ahead.
Following her gaze, Ronen saw a small street cart.
Fried potato balls?
Ming Ge was stunned for a moment. Then he blinked in surprise.
"These are my favorite snacks,"
Meteria said with a adorable grin.
She tugged him forward and ordered two portions. As she reached for her money, she had to let go of his hand.
Strangely, at that moment, both Ronen and Meteria felt a sense of loss in their hearts.
They looked at each other subconsciously, then were stunned for a moment, and both of them couldn't help but laugh at the same time.
This also means that there is already a lot of tacit understanding between the two of them.
Sigh....we are totally in sync huh...
Ronen sigh and thought.
Once she'd paid, they walked side by side again. When Meteria's hand brushed against his, Ronen understood immediately and gently took her hand once more.
She said nothing, didn't even glance at him—her cheeks were just lightly flushed. Carefully, she took a bite of the potato ball, looking dainty and utterly adorable. Ronen's heart melted at the sight.
"Well?" she smiled at him. "Try it and see how it tastes."
He took a bite. It wasn't greasy at all—and it tasted amazing.
"Damn it's really good."
He took a bite. It wasn't greasy at all—and it tasted amazing.
As they continued walking and snacking, a sudden voice called out from the side.
"Miss Meteria… is that you?"
They turned to see a young man with striking red eyes. He looked at them with some disbelief and unconcealable frustration.
A suitor of Meteria?
