Chapter 111: 111 'Decomposition Magic' (Please subscribe! Monthly tickets wanted!)
Reiger, who possessed the magic of "All-Powerful," could indeed break through the so-called common sense mentioned by Yuri.
No matter whether he had an aptitude for control systems or not, as long as Yuri explained the detailed effects of the magic to him and demonstrated it once in front of him, that magic would become Reiger's.
Therefore, frankly speaking, whether his own aptitude was good or bad didn't have much impact on Reiger.
However, he was quite curious about what his aptitude was for the four major magic systems.
As for Yuri, she didn't think that Reiger's magic aptitude would be poor.
"Well, although I don't know what your aptitude for control systems is like, you should have an aptitude in at least one area that could reach fifth rank."
The words that Yuri suddenly spoke made Reiger pause.
"Fifth rank?"
Reiger voiced his confusion.
"It means an aptitude of '50,'" Yuri explained, seeing his confusion: "This comes from the saying of the four highest academies of the Akasha continent, which set up ranks for various aptitudes to facilitate the assessment of students."
"An aptitude of '10' is considered first rank."
"An aptitude of '20' is second rank."
"An aptitude of '30' is third rank."
"And so on, with the highest aptitude '70' being seventh rank."
In other words, Yuri's aptitude for control systems was the highest at seventh rank, while her aptitude in the other three systems was the lowest at first rank.
When Yuri said that Reiger could reach fifth rank, she meant that Reiger had a magic aptitude that could reach '50'.
"Why are you so sure about it?"
Reiger was somewhat surprised.
To this, Yuri rolled her eyes instead.
"Do you think there's no reason why you were considered to have the potential to become a Tactical Level Magician before?" Yuri said with a bit of annoyance: "Even if your Magic Power is sufficient for casting Tactical Level Magic, if none of your magic aptitudes reach fifth rank, you still wouldn't be able to learn Tactical Level Magic."
"Yet you were considered to have the potential to become a Tactical Level Magician, even a Strategic Level Magician, before undergoing any aptitude test. Why is that?"
"Isn't it because of your performance in the academy that gained the recognition of the higher-ups?"
Yuri's words finally made Reiger realize.
Even without an aptitude test, the original host must have shown a degree of talent during magic training at the Spuler Academy.
This part of the talent gained recognition from the academy's higher-ups, who believed he had the aptitude necessary for casting Tactical Level Magic.
Thus, the rumor that the original host could become a Tactical Level Magician, or even a Strategic Level Magician, emerged for this reason.
And since there was a possibility of using Tactical Level Magic, it proved that Reiger had a magic aptitude that could reach fifth rank.
"Of course, having a high aptitude simply means the ability to use more difficult, higher-rank magic," Yuri said as she saw Reiger with a thoughtful look on his face, seemingly worried he might become complacent, so she added a warning.
"Like that classmate of yours, the second son of the Rein family, it's said he has a ranking of fourth in transformative systems, third in interference systems, second in control systems, and first in structural systems for his magic aptitudes. Although he can't use Tactical Level Magic, he can flexibly use combat-level magic from two to three systems, combining them quite cleverly, which is why, even after only three years of schooling, he can still hold his own against expert Swordsmen, right?"
When Yuri said this, she might have forgotten that this was equivalent to telling Reiger she had investigated the people around him (out of a protective instinct).
Fortunately, Reiger didn't mind this point and just nodded to show his understanding.
Aptitude, just like Magic Power, the more the better, but it's certainly not the case that you can't manage without it.
Generally speaking, for solo combat, having a fourth rank in any one magical system is actually totally sufficient.
This rank of aptitude can learn almost any combat-level magic within that system, excluding Tactical Level Magic and Strategic Level Magic.
If you master combat-level magic, even if you can't become a nuclear weapon that can destroy armies, cities, or even countries at a stroke, you can still become a sniper rifle that precisely hits any target.
Yuri had always held this idea, which is why she didn't feel complacent about being a Strategic Level Magician.
Because in single combat, she might not necessarily be able to defeat a Sword Saint, who couldn't use Strategic Level Magic or even Tactical Level Magic.
"That being said, becoming a Tactical Level Magician is certainly a great achievement."
Yuri seemed not to want to discourage Reiger, so she softened her tone and began to offer comfort.
"Whether becoming a Tactical Level Magician or a Strategic Level Magician, the requirements for Magic Power and aptitude are extremely high."
"In this world, there are those with a lot of Magic Power, but not necessarily high aptitude, and others with high aptitude, but not necessarily sufficient Magic Power, resulting in a very small number of people who can become Tactical Level Magicians, let alone Strategic Level Magicians—there are only eight across the entire continent."
"There aren't many Tactical Level Magicians even in the Kingdom of Ginas, at most two or three dozen, and the total number of Tactical Level Magicians across the entire continent is roughly only around a hundred."
Yuri then told Reiger that being able to become a Tactical Level Magician was something to be proud of, even if it wasn't something to be complacent about.
"Come on, let's see what your aptitude is."
Yuri pushed the Compass in front of Reiger.
Reiger's attention was instantly diverted, and he looked at the Compass in front of him, reaching out to press his palm on the gemstone.
"Clang!"
The gemstone immediately emitted light again, causing water to flow out from it.
Before long, all the water had flowed into the four areas.
Reiger and Yuri could see it clearly.
Transformation Series: One degree.
Manipulation Series: Two degrees.
Interference Series: Five degrees.
Construction Series: Two degrees.
Reiger's magic aptitude rated as fifth in the Interference Series, second in both the Manipulation and Construction Series, and first in the Transformation Series.
"Interference Series up to five?"
Yuri was somewhat surprised.
"Is that strange?"
Reiger inquired.
"No, it's just unusual," Yuri shook her head and said, "Among the four major magic systems, the Transformation Series is recognized as the one most people are adept at and most proficient in. In contrast, the Interference Series is the exact opposite. Although it's not particularly rare, magicians proficient in Interference Series magic are the fewest."
"Among today's eight strategic-level magicians, four specialize in Transformation Series magic, two specialize in Manipulation Series magic, two specialize in Construction Series magic, and there are none who specialize in Interference Series magic."
"In the realm of tactical-level magicians in the Ginas Kingdom, those proficient in Interference Series magic are also the fewest."
Yet, Reiger possessed a fifth-degree aptitude in Interference Series magic, which nearly guaranteed a path toward mastery in it.
"Even though there are a number of magicians who use Interference Series magic as an auxiliary means without being experts, like the second son of the Rein Family, it is indeed rare to find a magician with a fifth-degree aptitude in this series."
Yuri said this, starting to appreciate what Reiger had previously claimed.
He truly had relied on special methods to successfully cast tactical-level magic.
After all, Reiger's Transformation Series magic aptitude was only first-degree, the poorest among all his aptitudes.
However, the tactical-level magic that Reiger had cast at the Franzer family's mansion was clearly Transformation Series fire magic.
A first-degree aptitude had managed to perform tactical-level magic that usually required a fifth-degree aptitude, which was outright impossible.
This was enough proof that the tactical-level magic used by Reiger wasn't cast through regular means.
This time, Yuri was completely reassured.
Indeed, Reiger hadn't deceived her.
"Aside from reaching the fifth degree in Interference Series magic, you also have a second degree in Manipulation Series magic. Although it's not high, I still have Manipulation Series magic that I can teach you,"
Yuri's mood seemed to get very good as she spoke to Reiger with a smile.
"A second-degree aptitude in Manipulation Series magic is a bit of a stretch to learn my magic, but this is one of my signature skills, you know?"
"How about it? Want to learn?"
Upon hearing this, Reiger said nothing, simply staring directly at Yuri, maintaining a smile.
Yuri also smiled, then suddenly stretched out a hand and pressed it on the Compass before her.
"[Decompose]."
As Yuri's voice rang out, the fluctuation of Magic Power suddenly became visible as it emerged from her hand.
It seemed like a purple vortex swirling in her hand, and the moment it touched the Compass, an incredible thing immediately occurred.
The Compass, just as Yuri had commanded, decomposed.
It didn't shatter or break apart, but instead wholly decomposed into three parts: the gemstone, water, and the wooden disk.
Seeing this, Reiger's eyes widened.
And for good reason.
"No incantation magic?"
Indeed, it was a no incantation magic.
It wasn't a Super Short Spell, not a short chant, and even less so a long chant or an extra-long chant; it was utterly without any chant.
"This is Decompose Magic, the magic I use most often, and the one I am most skilled in," Yuri's voice slowly spread.
"Everything has its structure. If the structure is unraveled, one can decompose these things into different substances and restore them to their original state."
"Decompose Magic is such magic, capable of instantly infiltrating the interior of an object, uncompromisingly unraveling it, causing the object to lose its original function and appearance."
"Mastering Decompose Magic in the end will enable the decomposition of all substances."
"Even, reducing them to — 'nothing.'
The purple fluctuation in Yuri's hand grew more intense.
In that moment, Reiger felt an extremely dangerous aura emanating from that purple fluctuation.
Yuri gently pressed it onto the gemstone, water, and wooden disk.
The next instant, the gemstone, the water, and the wooden disk, all vanished without a trace.
They had been decomposed to the state of 'nothing,' with even their 'very existence' disintegrated.
Realizing this, only one thought crossed Reiger's mind.
"This time, I've hit the jackpot."
