Reiger did not know what Yuri and the eldest son of the Basolo family had discussed.
It was too far away, and unless the eldest son and his subordinates shouted as they had just done, Reiger really couldn't hear anything.
But Yuri's complexion looked terrible, that much Reiger could see. He also noticed Yuri saying something coldly, which excited the eldest son, who kept shouting things like "No way," "Impossible," and "I will never give up."
What did he look like?
Like a rejected lickspittle who had been snubbed by the goddess he adored...?
Bizarrely, he did seem quite the part.
Reiger shook his head and decided not to pay attention to the disturbances there, continuing to practice his swordsmanship by the pavilion. Sweating profusely with each practice, yet due to the "healing power" his stamina recovered extremely fast, and he never felt tired. It was indeed a peculiar feeling.
About half an hour later, after practicing like this, the eldest son of the Basolo family, who resembled a devastated lickspittle, left tearfully and sniffling, causing his shrewd butler and numerous subordinates to hastily follow him.
Before long, the luxurious carriage that had been parked outside all this time drove away, and neatly arranged knights followed quickly behind, stirring up quite a commotion.
Only then did Reiger stop his sword practice and stand upright, wiping sweat from his forehead, looking toward Yuri.
Yuri was still standing at the entrance of the mansion, and her expression did not improve with the departure of the Basolo family.
She was talking, or rather instructing something to Marilyn, letting her go only after a while.
Only after did Yuri make eye contact with Reiger.
Not until that moment did Yuri's expression soften slightly, though her eyes still held much helplessness as she walked towards where Reiger was.
"Have you been here the whole time?"
Yuri sat down in the pavilion, looked at a sweaty Reiger holding a wooden sword, and asked him this question.
"I suppose," Reiger shrugged his shoulders, leaning the wooden sword he had borrowed from a guard to one side, and said to Yuri, "Your suitor?"
Without doubt, Reiger was referring to the eldest son of the Basolo family.
"I suppose," Yuri replied in a tone as flat as Reiger's earlier response. "He's a rather troublesome character."
"Is that so?" Reiger smirked and tossed a pouch of money onto the table. "I think he seems pretty straightforward. He's even bribed his way to me. I bet the people in this residence have been pestered quite a bit by his men, huh?"
At that remark, Yuri did not speak but stared at the pouch on the table, her face filled with aversion.
Clearly, such incidents were not happening for the first time.
After a long silence, Yuri suddenly said,
"I need to go back home."
At Yuri's words, Reiger first felt surprised but then understood.
"To the Frantzel estate?"
As a marquis in the kingdom of Ginas, the Frantzel family, of course, had their own territory.
Their land was located in the northern part of the kingdom of Ginas, where the climate was cold. It wasn't always snowing, but it could indeed be described as winter all year round, which was not very suitable for a large population.
Originally, with Yuri's status and position, if she wanted land, the kingdom of Ginas would certainly not mind granting her a piece in the central regions, but Yuri didn't ask for it.
The Frantzel family was a noble lineage, though declined, they still had their own territory.
After Yuri was ennobled, she reclaimed the old family territory and did not ask for new lands, which is why the Frantzel territories in the kingdom of Ginas were located in remote and outlying areas.
The main house of the Frantzel family was also within that land, and this residence was situated within the capital city.
In other words, where Reiger was, was actually the capital of the kingdom of Ginas, the villa of the Frantzel family within the capital.
Because she was the chief court magician, Yuri often had to leave her lands and come to the capital to handle some affairs, so she had a residence here.
Now, it seemed Yuri was preparing to leave the capital and return to her own territory.
This matter, if Reiger were to say it had nothing to do with the Basolo family's eldest son from earlier, he truly wouldn't believe it.
"What exactly happened?"
Reiger finally asked the question.
Yuri seemed reluctant to speak, but seeing Reiger looking at her directly, eyes honest and solemn, she remained silent for a while before sighing.
"The Basolo family has proposed a marriage alliance with the Frantzel family," Yuri said with a heavy heart. "It seems my family has agreed to it."
Upon hearing this, Reiger's expression turned quite peculiar.
"Your family has agreed to a marriage proposed by others?" Reiger said. "Do they have the authority to make such a decision for you?"
It's no wonder Reiger said this.
If Yuri were just a privileged daughter, a girl born in a noble family, being pushed into a marriage alliance by her family wouldn't be odd.
Nobility, after all, can hardly avoid the topic of strategic marriage alliances; those in the know understand this.
But the situation seemed particularly absurd when it was Yuri in question.
The reason was simple.
In the Frantzel family, Yuri was the leader.
It was because she took over the Frantzel family, becoming a strategic-level magician, regarded as a treasure by the kingdom, that the Frantzel family has its status today.
Thus, Yuri was the sky of the Frantzel family, the real power holder, the absolute authority.
With her in charge of the Frantzel family, who in her family had the right to decide her marriage?
The King would probably have to consider Yuri's feelings even if he wanted to grant her a marriage, as a strategic magician growing discontent would definitely be a disastrous affair for the kingdom.
In such circumstances, who could decide to marry her off?
Did anyone really think Reiger's assessment of her as "one of the most badass people in the world" was said in vain?
Reiger, who entertained such thoughts, however, was a bit off the mark.
"My father agreed to this personally, without my consent,"
Yuri told Reiger with a single sentence how helpless she felt.
Yet, after she spoke these words, Yuri noticed that Reiger's expression also seemed to darken.
"What's wrong?"
Yuri voiced her confusion.
"...Nothing."
Naturally, Reiger wouldn't tell Yuri that her words had involuntarily reminded him of his grandfather from a previous life arbitrarily deciding to marry him off to the daughter of a nouveau riche family, a plump woman.
"So, are you going back this time to oppose this marriage engagement?"
Reiger understood why Yuri had suddenly proposed to go back.
To that, Yuri had only one response.
"Without my consent, this so-called marriage engagement cannot even be established."
The words Yuri spoke so calmly were entirely different from how she typically behaved in front of Reiger.
In front of Reiger, Yuri always seemed like a girl who lacked friends, who loved chatting with friends, and who could find joy in the smallest of things.
But in this moment, Yuri was the strong and cold head of a noble family.
This was the demeanor she normally displayed in front of others.
"Then I wish you a smooth journey,"
That's all Reiger could say.
However—
"What are you talking about?" Yuri looked puzzled: "You're coming with me too."
"Me?" Reiger was stunned.
"Of course." Yuri, seeing Reiger's astonished look, finally felt her mood lighten again, and with a light laugh, she said, "If you don't come with me, would you rather stay here and wait to be attacked by the assassin suspected to be a Heretic Assassin?"
"Isn't this villa protected by a magic defense system?" Reiger was genuinely surprised, and said, "If I stay here, I should be very safe, right?"
"That's when I'm still here," Yuri explained: "The magic defense system in this villa is established to protect me. It's fully activated only when I'm present. Once I leave, the system will automatically shut down most of its functions to reduce unnecessary consumption. This magic program was set up by the kingdom's court magician team when they laid out the defenses here, and even I can't control it."
Given this, for safety's sake, Yuri truly needed to take Reiger with her.
"...Seriously?"
Reiger was at a loss for words.
"Absolutely" Yuri said amusingly: "Are you not willing to go home with me?"
"Heh," Reiger rolled his eyes, a rare gesture for him.
Is this a question of willingness?
It's a question of reason!
"In what capacity should I go home with you? As a wild man you picked up from the outside?"
Reiger's comment made Yuri burst into laughter.
But that was the situation.
Taken home by a woman of similar age, who you're not related to, one could indeed be mistaken for some wild man picked up from outside.
Misunderstandings like this could have happened in his previous life, let alone in a medieval alternate world. If a scandal began to spread, it would be a serious matter, akin to tarnishing one's reputation in ancient times.
"Here's what we'll do," Yuri thought for a moment and then said: "I will tell people that you're a classmate who I've invited to visit my home as a guest."
"Classmate?" Reiger paused at that.
"You don't know?" Yuri gave a bemused smile and said: "I was also once a student at the Spirelli Academy. Although we're the same age, I graduated early. Strictly speaking, I could be considered your senior, right?"
Upon hearing this, Reiger felt completely taken aback.
The Spirelli Academy was rated as the continent's top institution, the National Magic Academy.
Such top-rated academies, there were four in total on the Akasha continent, each established by one of the great nations and all located in the respective national capitals.
The Spirelli Academy was the highest magical educational institution established by the kingdom of Ginas, where the original owner of his body had studied.
And while the body's original owner had not yet graduated and was still an active student,
Yuri had already graduated early indeed making her Reiger's senior.
"Alright, come home with me, junior," Yuri said with a smile: "I will take good care of you."
Reiger didn't want to speak anymore.
