"Please watch your step on your way out!"
Amidst the store owner's farewell, Reiger, accompanying Ai En and Ian, walked out of the bookstore.
He had not purchased any sword techniques.
Since he knew that obtaining top-level sword techniques was mostly out of reach, Reiger naturally wouldn't consider buying sword techniques here.
Although there were quite a few advanced sword techniques in this shop, some of which were rather noteworthy, Reiger felt that if only comparing advanced sword techniques, the dozen or so advanced sword techniques available in the library Yuri directed him to were the best.
The Franzel Family, having recently risen, did not have a strong foundation and lacked a top-level sword technique inheritance, but being a Marquis family and headed by a strategic-level magician, the advanced sword techniques stored there would certainly not be inferior.
Therefore, if he were to choose advanced sword techniques, Reiger would still prefer selecting from Yuri's library.
Of course, Reiger still harbored a slight glimmer of hope.
"Has the breathing method of the Holy Dragon Sword Skill really been completely destroyed?"
Having experienced the uniqueness of the Holy Dragon Sword Skill, Reiger was reluctant to give it up and, thus, asked Ai En and Ian with some hopeful expectation.
Unfortunately, the result was harsh.
"It has indeed been completely destroyed," Ian confirmed with certainty. "According to the records, the Holy Dragon Sword Skill ultimately fell into the hands of a Sword Saint who, after being cornered by several other Sword Saints, destroyed it in despair. Although people pieced it together later, the most important breathing method could never be restored."
This was also why the sword techniques of the Holy Dragon Sword Skill had spread so widely.
The pieced-together incomplete version was naturally not treasured by anyone, and over four hundred years, it had been passed on again and again, ultimately leading to countless copies of the fragmented versions spreading across every corner of the continent.
The crucial breathing method was genuinely, completely lost.
"This was confirmed through the precognition magic used by the clerics of the Church Nation," Ai En said nonchalantly, causing Reiger to lose any hope of getting lucky.
Since clerics had confirmed this fact with their precognition magic, it was possible that the breathing method of the Holy Dragon Sword Skill no longer existed in this world.
Reiger was not a man to dither since he knew it was futile, he no longer obsessed over the Holy Dragon Sword Skill.
The same went for other top-level sword techniques. Since they were difficult to obtain, he might as well choose an advanced sword technique to practice in the meantime.
He couldn't just neglect his growth indefinitely, could he?
Focusing on learning a decent advanced sword technique to ensure his progress, he could switch to a top-level sword technique once he obtained one in the future.
"Let's go check out other shops."
Having made such a decision, Reiger started focusing solely on selecting advanced sword techniques.
He would browse the shops here, compare, and see if there was a good advanced sword technique to buy. If not, he would choose from Yuri's library.
Ai En and Ian naturally had no objections and followed behind Reiger, browsing the bookstores on the Royal Market.
In one hour, Reiger constantly visited bookstores, perusing their advanced sword technique books.
Unfortunately, they were just mediocre.
The sword techniques available for sale, even advanced ones, were indeed not too impressive.
While some were quite excellent, they were only excellent and not enough to make Reiger feel powerful.
"It seems I can only choose from the library after all."
Realizing this, Reiger stopped browsing the bookstores.
Seeing that it was about time, he led Ai En and Ian back toward the entrance square of the Royal Market to meet up with the other noble youngsters.
However, when Reiger arrived, surprisingly, none of them had returned yet.
About five minutes later, two female nobles were the first to return.
"We're back."
Kaliya, holding Shafni's hand, appeared quite satisfied.
She sported a beautiful hairpin in her vividly eye-catching red hair, a lovely necklace around her neck, and an artistic bracelet on her wrist, carrying many bags, clearly having gone on a significant shopping spree.
"Hee hee, it was so delicious."
Shafni also sported some accessories, though unlike Kaliya's accessories which leaned toward exquisite, hers were more on the cute side. In addition to carrying bags, she also held a cone-like sweet in her hand, licking it contentedly with each lick bringing a smile to her face.
The two girls seemed to have had a delightful time, even appearing a bit wistful as if they hadn't had enough fun yet.
"Where are Aquil and the others?"
Seeing that only Reiger had arrived, Kaliya casually inquired.
"They haven't arrived yet."
Reiger replied briefly, without elaborating much.
Kaliya's pretty eyebrows slightly raised, and a hint of curiosity emerged in her eyes as she looked at Reiger.
Indeed, not only had Aquil noticed that Reiger had changed, but Kaliya had also seen it.
In the past, as the only commoner in this group, he had felt somewhat inferior and would act rather deferentially in front of everyone, agreeing with whatever was said. He showed a different face in front of outsiders, acting as if he was above them and possessed a sense of belonging in this group of noble descendants.
Additionally, Kaliya had noticed that this future great magician, brought into the group by Aquil, seemed to have taken a liking to her.
He would occasionally steal glances at her, listen intently to everything she said, and even memorize it all. Sometimes, he would conspicuously try to please her, which was something he couldn't hide.
Such behavior from him in the past would have undoubtedly seen him running over to help carry her numerous bags enthusiastically, happy to serve and wearing a pleased expression if she handed them to him.
Today, Reiger was utterly different from before.
He remained calm throughout, his gaze no longer dodging due to inferiority or timidity; he even dared to give orders to everyone, a complete change from before.
He also ignored me, no longer courting me as he used to, and even his look was different—it wasn't filled with adoration but was like looking at an insignificant stranger.
Sena thought that Reiger had become so bold and arrogant because he had climbed the ranks by associating with a certain member of the Franzel family, but Kaliya disagreed.
The reason was simple: Reiger's eyes were too calm, too indifferent, and so was his demeanor. There wasn't a trace of the self-satisfaction he used to show in front of outsiders when he had climbed up the social ladder.
This issue, while shopping, Kaliya even discussed it with Shafni, but they could not come up with a reason.
It was Shafni who casually mentioned,
"Perhaps, having experienced life and death, his disposition changed drastically."
Thinking of these words, Kaliya nodded silently.
Possibly.
Having faced life and death, seeing things differently and changing disposition seemed entirely normal.
"We're back."
At that moment, Aquil's voice reached Kaliya's ears, interrupting her thoughts.
Aquil, Sena, and a group of varying heights and builds seemed to have acted together and now returned collectively, rejoining the group.
However, the expressions on their faces were not very pleasant—as if they were angry but dared not speak.
Especially Sena, whose discontent was plainly displayed on his face.
"What happened to you all?"
Shafni asked curiously.
"Don't tell me the slave girl you wanted was bought by someone else?"
Kaliya spoke disparagingly.
It seemed she had guessed correctly.
"Drop it," Sena said irritably. "That young master is despicable, not leaving a single one for us, bought them all."
The group of varying statures nodded, agreeing with Sena's statement.
"Young master?" Kaliya asked., "Which young master is so wealthy that he bought all the slaves you wanted?"
The value of a slave mainly depends on the person themselves.
If they were merely laborers with no special abilities, then their value would be low—a slightly wealthy merchant could buy a large number in one go, as they were relatively worthless.
But if they had added value, that was a different matter.
For example, if one possessed notable combat skills, their value would skyrocket.
And for female slaves, appearance was their greatest added value.
The more beautiful, the more valuable the slave.
For slaves like this to be specially listed on the promotional materials of the royal market, their beauty must be unmatched, and their price certainly high.
A young master who could buy all these female slaves, leaving none for others, must indeed come from significant wealth.
Kaliya and Shafni became curious about his identity.
Reiger, however, was completely indifferent, not even glancing at Aquil and the others.
Yet, the next second, what Aquil said suddenly caught Reiger's attention.
"It was that young master from the Basolo Family."
Aquil revealed his identity.
"The Basolo Family?" Kaliya exclaimed. "From the Marquis family?"
"Exactly," Aquil nodded reluctantly. "It's that young master from the Basolo Marquis family, the one predestined to be the heir, who bought nearly every valuable slave in the slave district."
"When we got there, it seemed he just wanted to pick slaves with combat abilities. But when he saw the female slaves we were looking at, he snatched them away without a word," Sena continued with a look of vexation. "Tell me, isn't he despicable?"
"What of it?" Kaliya shook her head, saying, "He's the child of a marquis family, and also the designated next heir. Did you really think about fighting him?"
Sena fell silent.
Fight with an heir of a Marquis family?
He was just a minor noble from a Viscount family.
Don't make him laugh; he didn't want to be driven out of the city.
"Forget it," Aquil sighed as well. "We can't provoke this person, let's just drop the matter."
Everyone massively agreed with this statement.
The difference in status brought by different noble ranks was completely evident here.
Only Reiger, upon hearing everyone's words, narrowed his eyes.
"Bought every slave with combat abilities… huh?"
Reiger pondered thoughtfully.
