JJK: The Cursed Child

Chapter 31: Ch 30 - A Trial by Combat

Akane pouted, pretending to be hurt. "You're no fun."

He could only sigh and come clean. "Look. I have a very important spar later in the evening. After that, I might have to go out for a trip. Just give me this week... After that, I will give you whatever you want."

"I want you to be super rough with me!" Akane whispered softly in his ear.

Liam slapped her butt and grinned. "Don't worry. I will make sure that you will not walk for at least a week."

She giggled. "Fine."

She relented, slipping off his lap. "But don't keep me waiting too long, you only have a week!"

Liam smiled and nodded his head.

With a playful roll of her eyes, Akira sashayed out of the office, leaving Liam to breathe a sigh of relief and finally focus on his goal.

The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows over the ground when Liam actually stepped out of the office. He quickly changed his outfit and went to the training grounds since he had a spar to do.

The atmosphere was tense, charged with anticipation.

Liam stood at the center of the sparring arena, the air around him shimmering slightly with a mixture of Haki and latent cursed energy.

Opposite him stood Toji Fushiguro, the legendary sorcerer known for his overwhelming strength and unparalleled combat skills.

Liam's heart raced as he faced Toji.

Liam took a deep breath and said to himself. " Okay, I can do this. Just focus."

Toji tilted his head, a bemused smile creeping onto his face. He wasn't one for small talk and preferred to let his actions speak for themselves.

Toji cracked his knuckles, as he was excited about it. "Let's see what you've got, kid."

With that, Toji lunged forward, closing the distance between them in an instant.

Liam's instincts kicked in, and he activated his Haki, a wave of energy coursing through him. He prepared to counter Toji's attack, but the legendary sorcerer was already upon him.

Toji's fist connected with Liam's gut, the impact knocking the wind out of him.

Liam staggered back, eyes wide in shock. It wasn't just the strength of the blow; it was the overwhelming skill behind it. Toji's movements were fluid, each strike precise and devastating.

Liam groaned and stabilized himself. "Okay, that... that was just a warm-up!"

He steeled himself, calling upon his Limitless potential. He had the ability to manipulate cursed energy in a way that few could comprehend, but the execution was another matter. He took a stance, channeling his energy to create a barrier around himself.

Toji chuckled at Liam's attempt to defend himself, his expression unbothered.

Toji smirked and advised him. "Don't get too comfortable, kid. This isn't a game."

With a swift motion, Toji launched another attack.

Liam, anticipating the move, attempted to utilize his Reverse Cursed Techniques to heal from the previous blow and counter.

However, he was too slow; Toji's fist struck him across the face, sending him crashing to the ground.

Liam was breathless, mumbling. "Is this what it feels like to get hit by a truck?"

With every bruise and scrape, Liam felt a flicker of something within him—his Limitless potential igniting. He had never fought someone so powerful, but every hit seemed to awaken a dormant strength inside.

He pushed himself up, determination shining in his eyes.

Liam clenched his fists and said. "Alright, I can't keep taking hits like this!"

He focused on Toji, channeling his Haki to enhance his physical capabilities.

This time, he was ready.

Liam charged at Toji, drawing upon every ounce of his cursed energy. He aimed a punch at Toji's side, but the sorcerer sidestepped effortlessly, countering with a spinning kick that sent Liam flying once more.

Toji still smiling, teased. "Better. But you need to think faster."

...

Liam was growing frustrated but also learning. With every hit he took, he began to understand the rhythm of combat, and how to read Toji's movements. He began to realize that the fight was not just about strength; it was about adapting, anticipating, and executing.

He took a deep breath, grounding himself.

Liam pushed his senses to the limit and focused, thinking in his heart. "I can do this."

Liam initiated another attack, this time using his Haki to enhance his speed. He darted forward, feigning a punch to Toji's face before pivoting and aiming a kick at his legs.

Toji was caught slightly off guard, and Liam connected with a glancing blow, causing Toji to stumble back.

Toji raised an eyebrow, impressed. "Not bad."

Encouraged by this small victory, Liam pressed forward, launching a series of rapid punches. Although Toji managed to block most of them, the sheer speed of Liam's attacks surprised him.

Toji's expression shifted slightly, a flicker of respect crossing his face. He began to engage more seriously, countering Liam's strikes with calculated precision.

Liam felt the pressure mount, but with every clash, he could feel his skills sharpening. Each time Toji struck him down, he would rise stronger, his spirit refusing to be broken.

Liam panted for air. He had never been pushed so much before and yet he was excited, enjoying every punch.

"You're not… going easy on me, are you?"

Toji grinned, amused by his senses. He replied with a shrug of shoulders. "Not a chance. If you want to survive in this world, you need to learn fast."

As the spar continued, Liam tapped deeper into his unlimited Reverse Cursed Techniques, allowing him to heal minor injuries almost instantaneously. He began to strategize, utilizing his cursed energy not just for offense but also to bolster his defenses.

Toji's relentless assaults pushed Liam to the brink, but with each fall, Liam felt himself getting stronger. He started to anticipate Toji's moves better, dodging more effectively and countering with newfound agility.

The sun was dipping below the horizon, casting an orange hue over the training ground.

Liam could feel the exhaustion settling in, but his resolve burned brighter than ever.

Liam gritted his teeth and shouted, "I won't give up!"

Toji nodded, sensing the shift in Liam's energy. He decided it was time for one final test.

Toji charged forward, launching a flurry of strikes aimed to overwhelm Liam. This time, however, Liam was ready. He activated his Haki, channeling all of his energy into a single powerful punch as he met Toji's fist mid-attack.

The impact resonated through the air, a shockwave emanating from the point of contact. For a brief moment, time seemed to slow, and Liam could feel the energy surging through him.

As the dust settled, Liam stood panting, feeling the adrenaline coursing through his veins.

Toji stepped back, a satisfied smile gracing his face.

Toji nodded his head. "Your skills are decent. You've improved a lot in just one spar. Keep this up, and you might just become a formidable sorcerer."

Liam was breathing heavily. "Thanks, Toji! I've got a long way to go, but I can feel myself getting stronger."

Toji clapped him on the shoulder, a gesture of camaraderie.

Toji said with a hint of seriousness. "Remember, strength isn't everything. It's about how you use it. Keep training, and don't forget to adapt."
