Journey to the West: Treasure Vase of the Great Dao

Chapter 5 Yuan Shoucheng

```
On this day, Bodhisattva Guanyin personally visited the Crystal Palace of Jing River, taking away the youngest Dragon Princess, signaling that the Journey to the West was about to unfold, and the Jing River Dragon King was also about to face his destiny.
In the Crystal Palace, the several Dragon Sons were immersed in the sorrow of their little sister's departure, completely oblivious to the fact that the roaring tides of time were about to engulf their family first.
Lu Yu watched the Dragon Sons engrossed in their studies and cultivation, and he sighed softly, knowing that peaceful times were limited.
That night, under a sky where the moon shone sparsely amidst the stars, the Milky Way glimmered brilliantly. All of a sudden, numerous shooting stars fell from the sky, startling all beings across the three realms. The dazzling meteor shower captured everyone's eyes, but ordinary people could only appreciate its beauty without comprehending the underlying significance.
However, for those with profound cultivation within the three realms, it was well known that this was a prelude to the unfolding of a great epoch; from this day forth, the three realms would enter a state of significant change.
"It has begun," echoed a voice from the void.
In the Tushita Palace, thirty-three heavens above, the Grand Supreme Elderly Lord, who had been sitting with his eyes closed facing the alchemy furnace, also opened his eyes. He said to the two child servants engaged in alchemy, "You two, take my magical treasures and make a trip to the mortal realm!"
The two child servants, with horns on their heads, joyfully agreed, took out a few treasures, and dashed towards the mortal realm. Although the Heavenly Court was wonderful, it was cold and lonely, nowhere near as exciting as the tumultuous human world; the child servants had long been eager to leave.
Similar scenes unfolded in numerous places across the three realms; however, for mortals, it was nothing more than a magnificent meteor shower. After enjoying the spectacle, they would continue with their lives as usual, day after day, year after year.
A few days later, a notable figure appeared in Changan City, setting up a fortune-telling stall on Changan Main Street. This person was not an ordinary individual; he was the uncle of Yuan Tiangang, the distinguished Fortune-telling Master of the Imperial Observatory—Yuan Shoucheng.
This man had an impressive demeanor, skilled in divination, palmistry, and fortune-telling, indeed producing accurate predictions. Within a few days, he had made a big name for himself in Changan City. The line of people seeking his fortune-telling services grew so long that it even blocked the wide road.
Yet, the master had a particular rule: he only read fortunes for those whom he took a liking to. If he was interested, he did not ask for money but merely a small favor. If he took no interest, not even royalty or nobility could persuade him to tell their fortune.
On this particular day, the master was still at his stall, telling fortunes. A fisherman approached him early on, clad in a straw raincoat, wearing a conical bamboo hat, with a somewhat aged fish basket hanging at his waist and carrying a bamboo fishing rod over his shoulder.
The sun and wind had roughened his face, carving deep wrinkles into his skin. The fisherman, all smiles, took a golden carp from his basket and said, "Master, your divination is truly accurate; I am thoroughly convinced. This golden carp is as we agreed, for your fee."
The master looked up at the fisherman and asked, "Do you believe it now?"
"Believe it, I do. Master, you really are a divine being. Just by following your advice, my success was guaranteed—simply divine!" the fisherman said, lifting his thumb in praise.
The master smiled without uttering a word. The fisherman stepped back, knowing the master was busy with affairs, and now, having witnessed his divine skills, naturally wanted to foster a good relationship for future guidance.
After the fisherman's endorsement, the surrounding crowd became even more eager, each person pleading with the fortune-telling master to guide them through their confusion. Nonetheless, the master sat firmly in his chair, unflinching, eyes closed, in meditation.
"Esteemed master, might you take a look at my palm?" A gentle voice suddenly arose from within the crowd.
Upon hearing these words, a green-robed Scholar with a handsome and graceful face, embodying a sense of freedom, stepped forward.
The onlookers knew this was no ordinary man; his demeanor was not that of someone raised by a common family. Thus, no one foolish enough to cause trouble came forward. Instead, they tacitly cleared a path, allowing the green-robed Scholar to approach the master.
The fortune-telling master was roused by this voice, and upon raising his head, he saw the Scholar making his way towards him. Others might not have recognized it, but how could he fail to see? It was clear this Scholar was no mortal. Although he had concealed his extraordinary origins, the undeniable brilliance of the Primordial Spirit Light was dazzling and could not be overlooked.
"May I know the reason for the master's visit?" the fortune-telling master asked respectfully, his tone much more polite than usual, inciting the onlookers to marvel. This was the same master who usually gave no face to anyone; just a few days ago, representatives from the Ducal Mansion came, and the master did not even lift his head. Yet here he was, showing utmost courtesy to a young Scholar.
"Having come here, naturally, it's for a fortune-telling or a reading. Dare you make the attempt?" the green-robed Scholar asked with a smile.
"Dare I not? Since the master has come here, how could I allow you to leave empty-handed? Please extend your hand, and I shall take a look for you," replied the master.
Upon hearing this, the green-robed Scholar stretched out his right hand, palm facing the fortune-telling master. The master instantly fixed his gaze upon the lines of the palm, curious to discover the origins of this distinguished person.
The master used his divine skills, and a faint light seemed to emit from his eyes, casting upon the Scholar's palm. Suddenly, he felt as if he had entered a realm of Chaos.
With no up nor down, no left nor right, it was as if the world had returned to its most primal state, devoid of any cosmic distinction. Suddenly, a world appeared before him, where the Five Qi were in disarray, and creation and destruction were without order. At that moment, his mind was so stirred that he could barely control it, and with a soft grunt, he exited this strange realm.
Once more, he faced the smiling green-robed Scholar. The vision had felt like a dream, and now that he was awake, the details of the dream were vividly etched in his mind. He wasn't a common man; naturally, he knew that what he had witnessed was a manifestation of this Scholar's own realm.
He sighed and said, "Master, your cultivation reaches the heavens. You have transcended the three realms, not confined by the Five Elements; I cannot divine your destiny. Should you have any doubts, I shall answer them to the best of my ability."
"Haha, I'm flattered. I do have one question for you—who stands behind you?" the green-robed Scholar asked intently, his gaze fixed on the fortune-telling master. Stay updated with My Virtual Library Empire
The fortune-telling master did not reply immediately but instead inquired, "May I know who I am addressing."
"Lu Yu."
Upon hearing Lu Yu reveal his identity, the master breathed a sigh of relief; he had heard of his reputation as someone not of a perverse or bizarre nature. Then, he gently lifted his right hand and pointed skyward.
Lu Yu instantly grasped his meaning and said with a smile, "Truly a Supreme being! I apologize for the disturbance. I shall take my leave now, and we can meet again if opportunity allows."
The fortune-telling master, feeling as if he had been granted amnesty, asked with a smile, "May I know if the master has a place to stay?"
