Journey to the West: Treasure Vase of the Great Dao

Chapter 79: Taking Action

The ghost deities that appeared on the battlefield were of various forms, some clad in armor, others resembling scholars, there were beautiful women dressed in red, and old men holding walking sticks, and some donned official robes, wielding jade scepters, each exuding extraordinary grace, floating in midair.

The massive ghostly entity seemed to have never seen such a lineup before, and in its simple mind, it could sense the power of these opponents, which was similar to that of the Honored Lord's but also somewhat different.

The ghostly entity roared and launched an attack, brandishing a bone club that emitted a black aura, passionately striking towards the host of ghost deities.

Although these ghost deities found it challenging to interfere with matters of the Human Path, they were after all entities bearing the name of ghost deities. Had it not been for the short time that The Way of Ghost Deities had been perfected, and their lack of accumulated strength, such ghostly entities would not be a match for them. Even so, they had their own methods of fighting back.

The ghost deities suddenly glowed with a warm light; this was the light of faith from the Human Path, which effortlessly blocked the ghostly entity's attack. They too wouldn't show weakness, each using their own techniques to counterattack.

But this was not just one or two ghost deities. Although they were all what the monkey referred to as 'God Mao,' they had strength in numbers. The combined attacks of the many ghost deities formed a formidable force, and in an instant, the ghostly entity was beaten to the brink of death, its aura weakening and its massive form shrinking.

Just then, an immense will descended from the sky, and a divine spirit enveloped in light arrived in the mortal realm.

He was shrouded in the light of faith, with the body of a human and the head of a yak, his horns wrapped in five-colored silk, which looked very beautiful.

"When did so many divine spirits appear in the world? No, you aren't real divine spirits," the divine spirit remarked in astonishment upon his descent, having laid eyes on the host of ghost deities.

"I have not visited the land of Kyushu for a long time, and I could never have imagined such a wondrous Technique emerging," the divine spirit quickly recognized the merits of The Way of Ghost Deities.

It did not rely on Fortune and Destiny, and one could possess power as long as there were believers, even though it was restricted by the Human Path, this was definitely a great method for cultivating subordinates.

The ghost deities, looking at the divine spirit that had appeared before them, felt a surge of tension within their hearts—being ghost deities themselves, they could sense the formidable power of this being, and they were acutely aware that they were no match for him.

"What do you think? Interested in becoming my subordinates?" the divine spirit suddenly proposed.

This proposition instantly enraged many ghost deities; although the divine spirit before them was powerful, he was not of the human race. A clear alien, a god of the Barbarians, and he had the audacity to demand their surrender.

The divine spirit seemed to notice the ghost deities' anger and said nonchalantly with a laugh, "If you aren't willing, then I'll just have to obliterate your souls. After all, so many people have mastered this Technique; I can get it regardless."

An overwhelming force swept through the place, rendering all the ghost deities unable to stand.

"Truly weak. It seems this Technique is only fit for cultivating some low-level subordinates," the divine spirit commented with a laugh as he made his move.

However, at that moment, from the Shu territory, a beam of sword light suddenly shot out, cleaving through the sky, illuminating Kyushu, crossing thousands of miles, and striking the divine spirit.

The alien god let out a scream of agony as the sword light, filled with powerful Sword Intent, began tearing apart the divine spirit's body.

The Divine Spirit's body began to dissolve into points of light, gradually vanishing from everyone's sight, and just before dissipation, fear was evident in the eyes of the formerly invincible Divine Spirit.

"We do not concern ourselves with the affairs of the Human Path, but if a Cultivator dares to take action, they must naturally face our retribution," an aged voice rose in the ears of the High Priest and the many Cultivators of the Barbarian Tribes.

The High Priest was seized by terror, but before he could speak up, he felt an eerie presence settle upon him, followed by a scream. The aged High Priest began writhing on the ground as black bugs ceaselessly burrowed out of him, a sight that terrified the Barbarians.

At this moment, upon witnessing the grotesque demise of their greatest support, the Barbarians were overwhelmed with fear, casting aside their weapons and fleeing in panic, not daring to look back even once.

As the saying goes: "When an army is defeated, it collapses like a tumbling mountain." By now, the Barbarians were filled with dread, their minds focused solely on escape, and that played right into the hands of the beggars' army led by Ran Min, who relentlessly pursued the demoralized Barbarians, vowing to exterminate them completely.

Meanwhile, inside the Barbarians' Sacred Mountain, a Divine Spirit suddenly opened his eyes, full of terror.

It was clearly the bovine Divine Spirit who had appeared before the Ghost Deities earlier. He murmured to himself with palpable relief, "Thank goodness I was cautious and sent an avatar. Otherwise, I'd have died there. Cursed Mount Shu actually made a move."

In truth, the Divine Spirit knew that the Barbarian invasion was inevitable, which is why he schemed to test whether the Cultivators of the People of Han would intervene. The result was the effortless execution of his avatar by the people of Mount Shu.

It seemed that the stance of the Cultivators in Kyushu was very clear—while the decree of Heaven was difficult to contest, and they wouldn't meddle in human affairs, any Cultivator who took action would be met with blood for blood, tooth for tooth.

However, before he could celebrate his narrow escape, he was horrified to discover that a man had somehow entered his hiding place.

A robust man stood before him, hair tied up in a topknot, with large eyes, a red face, and a fan in hand, smiling cheerfully at him.

"Who are you, and why have you invaded my Divine Realm?" the Divine Spirit asked in fear, aware that someone who could enter his Divine Realm unnoticed must possess exceptional strength.

"My name is Zhong Liquan, a person of Han," the visitor spoke gently, yet these words tightened the Divine Spirit's chest—an unquestionable warning that this man had come to trouble him.

"Since both of us are immortals, why must we fight over mere ants? It's unbecoming. Why not sit and discuss the Way instead?" the Divine Spirit suggested cautiously, not wishing to clash with this unfathomable man.

"Ants? Hmm, they may be ants in your eyes, but not in mine. Since you've taken action, you should be prepared to be our enemy," Zhong Liquan's previously amiable expression vanished, replaced by an icy killing intent erupting from him, as if it bore the clamor of warriors and thundering hooves.

Everyone saw his benevolent facade, but they seemed to forget that he too was once a thunderous General, beneath whom lay mountains of corpses.

The Divine Spirit inwardly cursed his bad luck, realizing that the situation would likely not end well, and quickly activated his escape plan.

At that moment, he saw the man who called himself Zhong Liquan casually wave his fan. Unlike a gentle breeze, the movement unleashed a roaring blaze rushing toward him.
