Chapter 23: Chapter 23: The Guardian of the Tomb
Kazaf, Rahim, Samir, and Harun stood before the massive spirit stone, its ethereal glow pulsating like a living heart. The air was thick with raw energy, and the stone seemed to hum, as if aware of their presence.
Harun took a cautious step forward. "So… do we just grab it?"
Samir smirked. "If it were that easy, someone would've taken it long ago."
Rahim narrowed his eyes, scanning the chamber. "There's always a catch. A treasure like this doesn't stay unclaimed without a reason."
Kazaf, still feeling the resonating energy from the stone, furrowed his brows. "It's not just a spirit stone… it's something more."
Just as he said that, the ground rumbled, and a deep, ancient voice echoed through the chamber.
"Unworthy ones… you dare lay claim to the heart of the ancients?"
The stone pulsed brighter, and suddenly, the room shook violently. The walls cracked, revealing hidden inscriptions, and from the shadows, a colossal figure emerged.
A guardian.
It was a stone golem, at least ten feet tall, its body engraved with glowing runes, each pulsating with the same energy as the spirit stone. Its eyes burned like molten gold, and when it moved, the sound of grinding stone filled the chamber.
Samir cursed under his breath. "Oh, you have got to be kidding me."
Harun gripped his sword. "I knew it wasn't going to be easy."
The golem raised a massive arm, its fist covered in glowing symbols, and swung down at them with terrifying force.
Kazaf dove aside, rolling as the ground shattered beneath the impact. Dust and debris filled the air.
Rahim unsheathed his blade. "If we don't fight, we die!"
Samir and Harun didn't need to be told twice. They sprang into action.
Harun, always the strongest of the group, rushed in with a powerful two-handed slash, aiming for the golem's leg. His sword struck, but instead of cutting through, the runes flared, and the weapon bounced off as if he had struck solid steel.
Harun stumbled back, eyes wide. "That's not normal stone!"
Samir darted around, trying to find a weakness. He threw a dagger at one of the glowing runes, but the golem barely flinched.
Kazaf focused his energy, his aura crackling. "Aim for the inscriptions! That's where the power is concentrated!"
Rahim nodded. "Got it!"
As the golem swung again, Kazaf leaped onto its arm, running along its massive limb before launching himself toward its chest, where the largest rune glowed.
With a sharp palm strike, he unleashed a surge of energy, aiming to disrupt the inscriptions. The rune flickered, and for the first time, the golem staggered.
Samir saw an opening. "It worked! Hit the symbols!"
Harun, now understanding the strategy, adjusted his grip. "Let's bring this thing down!"
They moved as one.
Rahim used his sword to carve into the runes on the golem's legs, forcing it to kneel.
Samir scaled its back, using his agility to slash at the runes on its shoulders, causing them to dim.
Harun charged forward, pouring all his strength into a devastating strike, smashing through one of the largest glowing inscriptions on its arm.
The golem roared, its form cracking, but it still wasn't defeated.
Kazaf gathered his energy, his aura flaring. He knew they needed a finishing blow.
Summoning all his strength, he launched himself into the air, twisting mid-flight, and delivered a spinning kick to the final rune on the golem's forehead.
The moment his attack connected, the rune shattered.
A deafening boom shook the chamber as the golem let out a final roar, its body crumbling into dust and fading into the air.
For a moment, silence filled the tomb.
Then, the spirit stone pulsed one last time before settling into a gentle glow.
They had won.
Harun let out a breathless laugh. "That… was insane."
Samir wiped sweat from his forehead. "I thought we were dead for sure."
Rahim sheathed his sword. "It seems Kazaf was right. The runes were the key."
Kazaf approached the spirit stone, now stable and free of the guardian's protection. He reached out, and as his fingers brushed against its surface, a surge of warmth flooded through him.
The energy wasn't hostile—it was welcoming.
A vision flashed before his eyes—a past long forgotten, of warriors who once protected this place, of battles against forces of darkness, and of a power hidden deep within the Down world.
Then, the vision was gone.
Kazaf opened his eyes, breathing heavily. "This stone… it's not just for cultivation. It holds knowledge. Secrets from the past."
Rahim frowned. "What kind of secrets?"
Kazaf clenched his fist. "I don't know yet… but I need to find out."
Harun clapped his hands. "That's great and all, but how about we get out of this cursed tomb before something else wakes up?"
Samir smirked. "For once, I agree with him."
With their prize secured, they turned toward the exit of the second tomb, unaware that outside, Jalwa's forces were still searching for them.
And soon, Kazaf's greatest trial was about to begin.
