King Arthur Won't Die by Accident

Chapter 70: Chapter 70: No One Is Special

"Princess Guinevere is virtuous and beautiful. Her reputation has spread across all of Britain. Even the barbarian Saxons yearn for Princess Guinevere," Arthur's lips curved in a sweet, honeyed smile as he lavished praise.

His words worked wonders, and King Leodegrance took great pride in them.

To the king, Guinevere was the apple of his eye, the treasure of the world, and his eternal pride.

"Have you made a decision about the marriage?"

"Of course. Our Lord Lancelot, the chief of the Knights of the Round Table of Camelot, has admired Guinevere for a long time. If fate allows, I hope King Leodegrance will not separate these two lovers. When I arrived yesterday, I saw the mutual admiration in their eyes."

"Lancelot? Say that again!" King Leodegrance exploded with rage.

"Don't be angry. Sir Lancelot is the most powerful knight under my command. So brave that he frightens a hundred enemies with his holy sword. His martial skills are unparalleled, and he is a hundred times better than me. Besides, he is the prince of France. The prince and princess make a perfect match."

"He's just a knight! The one my daughter should marry is you, King Arthur! You bastard!" King Leodegrance's fury boiled over.

The comfort he'd felt upon meeting Arthur vanished, replaced by deep irritation.

This was an insult.

It trampled on his dignity.

How could he bear to have his precious daughter so blatantly disrespected?

"Hmph! Since you show no sincerity, the marriage is canceled. Stay here. I will lead my army to capture Camelot and chop off your head."

Arthur didn't take the threat seriously.

Instead, he chuckled. "Have you made your decision? Do you really want to step out that door?"

Leaving now would be self-destruction.

"Compared to the powerful northern kings, or even all the kings across the British Isles, your wisdom is among the best. The fact that you chose to form an alliance and personally visit Camelot shows your vision differs from other kings. I've given you what you need — but now you want to throw it all away?" Arthur's tone was heavy with meaning.

What relationship did the nations have with Camelot now?

Under Arthur's leadership, Camelot was no longer what it once was. It had taken control of the British Isles, wielding strong trade power and political influence.

The kings no longer shaped Britain's future. They only adapted to survive alongside Camelot.

Compromise was the only path to survival.

Whether consciously or not, the kings subtly regarded Arthur as their master. Their thoughts, interests, and actions bowed to his influence.

Had anyone noticed?

Yes—King Leodegrance.

But what did that matter? Awareness meant nothing without compromise. Without it, one's strength was doomed to fall behind and be erased by the times.

"You said all this, so today, if I don't agree, you won't let me leave, right?" King Leodegrance asked bitterly, his face aging ten years in an instant.

He gripped Guinevere's hand tightly.

The once-arrogant king could only stare silently, begging for mercy and judgment.

Please, Guinevere was young. She deserved a happier life, one without this burden.

Perhaps Arthur sensed the plea in Leodegrance's eyes, or perhaps he simply felt pity.

"No need for that. I'm not stupid enough to kill the king who trusted me enough to come here in person. Deals require integrity. I only said those things to help you sort your thoughts. No ambush awaits outside, and I guarantee your safety." Arthur smiled gently again.

Yes, Arthur wouldn't kill him.

But that didn't mean others wouldn't.

Sometimes, enemies take care of things for you.

Today's conversation would never reach the other kings' ears.

"Do you know why the legendary dangerous places are so infamous? Because despite the risk, countless challengers come every year. Even children understand that battles require not just strength, but luck. Yet many seek to prove themselves," Arthur said, shifting topics as if casually.

Though puzzled, King Leodegrance answered grimly, "For wealth, fame, power, and desire."

"Haha, yes, those reasons play a part. But ultimately, it isn't that people are simply blinded by desire or foolish. It's the illusion of human nature—that 'I'm different, I'm special, I can do what others can't.' How many lives have been destroyed by that thought?"

Some people truly are special, but not everyone.

Most live ordinary lives with mediocre talents, achieving little to boast of.

That's why the phrase 'different from ordinary people' exists—to describe the exceptional.

Yet humans are restless by nature.

When a shortcut promises everything, many gamble it all, hoping this time luck will favor them.

You think: I've been ordinary all my life, but maybe this is my one extraordinary chance.

People think like this, then a few bet everything and act on it.

Before today, so did you. The British kings thought so, too.

But what makes you think you are different? That you are special?

Don't be naive.

You were simply born lucky — into a good family, a good environment. That's all.
