Konata Doesn't Want To Be The Female Lead

Chapter 25: Chapter 25: A Flash of Lightning, A Dash of Cowardice

Honestly, Konata had to admit

Tokoyami Fumikage's Quirk, Dark Shadow, was practically tailor-made for this kind of environment. She didn't really have a good counter, especially after realizing that the shadow monster didn't even flinch at electricity.

After all, this was just a practical test. It's not like she could actually blast her future classmate with a full-power railgun, right? She wasn't that unhinged.

"Oi oi oi, don't you have a shred of gentlemanly spirit!? You've got zero mercy for a delicate maiden like me!?"

She backed all the way to the stairwell, pouting hard.

If her passive electromagnetic field hadn't neutralized that earlier blow from Dark Shadow, she probably would've been splattered onto the wall. And not in a fun, anime-slapstick kind of way—more like crime scene outline levels of bad.

"In battle, holding back is the greatest insult to your opponent."

Wrapped head to toe in his black cloak, Tokoyami replied solemnly.

"You're strong. If I don't go all out from the start, I have no chance."

"Hah… knew you'd say that."

Konata sighed heavily and straightened up again.

"You're right, this might be a simulation, but it's not a game. So I'll take you seriously. But you better be careful—I still can't control my output properly, so I'll try not to use anything too lethal… So, you ready?"

"Bring it on."

He took a cautious step back, shielding himself with Dark Shadow. He'd already seen her power during yesterday's Quirk Assessment. Even in this narrow space, where Dark Shadow thrived, her destructive force was on another level.

"Then here we go…"

Taking a deep breath, Konata pulled a game token from her pocket, held it up dramatically… and tossed it into the air.

"Young one, open your eyes and see the truth—for fantasy… knows no end. Buh-bye, sucker!!"

As Tokoyami's eyes locked onto the token spiraling downward, Konata turned tail and bolted.

Ding~

The token hit the ground with a crisp clink. Silence followed.

Staring at the now-empty hallway, Tokoyami stood frozen in… confusion.

"Hmm… two minutes left, huh?"

Konata sprinted back into the nuclear weapon mock-up room and peered out the window.

"Midoriya shouldn't be able to beat Bakugo in a straight fight… not unless he uses his Quirk. And if he does use it, well, we both know how that ends. So the real threat here… is still Tokoyami, huh?"

She glanced toward the door thoughtfully.

"Well, not my problem. I'll just defend here—more space, better chances. If I can just stall for two mo—"

"Ugh, not another quest...?"

Before she could even fully react, a bright red 30-second countdown appeared in her vision.

"Seriously!? Only 30 seconds!?"

"I found you."

Tokoyami's voice echoed from the doorway.

"Choosing a wide, open room… smart. You've got the upper hand tactically, but—"

He stopped mid-sentence.

Crackle—!

Blue sparks danced through the air, lacing along the walls. The girl he'd been chasing was gone.

In her place stood a short-haired, brown-skinned girl in a baseball cap, her body wreathed in blue and white lightning.

The cameras immediately cut to black.

She looked at her palm with quiet curiosity, then raised her gaze.

A coin spun through the air, landing gently on her fingertip.

FWOOOM!!

An orange beam shot past Tokoyami's face like a spear, piercing the wall like paper. It didn't stop—just kept going, boring through walls, cutting straight through the building, leaving a glowing trail in the air before vanishing into the distance.

"…So this is the true form of the Quirk called 'Fantasy,' huh?"

Tokoyami could only stare, stunned by the raw power behind what looked like a casual flick.

"The match is decided."

With those words, she hopped out the window, defying gravity as she ran along the wall—heading straight for Midoriya and Bakugo's battlefield.

"W-was that… Konata-san…?"

From his earpiece, Midoriya had already heard the update from Tokoyami. But seeing her now—wreathed in lightning, looking like a completely different person—he froze.

"Whew… made it in time."

Seeing the countdown pause at 15 seconds, she exhaled in relief.

"Alright, Midoriya-kun, it's over. You don't have to—"

"GET OUT OF MY WAY! THIS IS MY FIGHT!!!"

A roaring Bakugo, fire crackling from his hands, lunged straight at her.
