Konata Doesn't Want To Be The Female Lead

Chapter 30: Chapter 30: My Heart Is as Deep as the Ocean

"I really got chewed out, huh…"

Konata stepped out of the faculty office with a face that could only be described as emotional damage. She sighed, brushing her bangs out of her eyes.

Honestly, she thought Aizawa had called her in to ask about her quirk—especially after her Railgun cosplay yesterday. She was ready to deliver a full PowerPoint presentation on electromagnetism.

Instead?

"Don't sleep during class."

That was it. That was the whole meeting. Not a single question about the lightning or the sparks or her world-shattering transformation.

...Hello? Did no one see her become Misaka Mikoto?! Not even a single "Wow, that was cool"?

To make matters worse, she somehow got roped into becoming the class president. That title hit her soul like a truck in a light novel.

Still, when she reached into her pocket, her mood lightened a bit. Yesterday's Robin Hood moment—courtesy of a totally ethical redistribution of a certain someone's bento stash—earned her enough to enjoy a week's worth of cafeteria meals.

With her spirits semi-recovered, she patted the chalk dust from her uniform and trudged back to class.

---

The rest of the morning was culture class. Aka: nap simulator.

While pretending to listen, Konata's mind wandered—as usual. Specifically, to the fact that during the class vote, somehow she'd ended up with the most votes for class president.

It was supposed to be Iida's moment! That boy literally had "future student council president" written all over him. But nope.

Konata, the certified slacker, ended up holding the title.

And now? She was on a mission.

Find the traitors.

There were five of them. Five classmates had raised their hands and thought, "Yeah, let's make her responsible for stuff."

She began analyzing suspects like a certain white-haired detective with a sweet tooth.

First up: Tokoyami Fumikage.

He got zero votes. Which meant he voted for someone else. The vibe between them? Peak chūnibyō synergy. Definitely suspicious. She scribbled his name on a blank piece of paper.

Next: Tsuyu Asui.

They made eye contact for exactly 1.5 seconds.

That was basically a confession in anime logic. Onto the list she went.

Third: Denki Kaminari.

He definitely voted for her just because she kept calling him Pikachu.

Tenya Iida? Probably voted for Midoriya. Bro-code activated.

Bakugo? Surprisingly, might've voted for Deku too. Bros by force.

Yaoyorozu? She had money. Maybe she'd fund Konata's lunch next time.

Mineta? Avoid.

Hagakure? Invisibility quirk = god-tier for sleeping in class.

Ojiro? White tail. Okay.

Shoji? Mysterious mask. Might be handsome. Or a Parasyte.

Jiro? Cool and chill. Konata-approved.

Aoyama? Always stares into the camera. Probably voted for himself.

By the time English class ended, she had written everyone's name, including her own.

"…This is stupid."

She sighed and stuffed the list into her English textbook like it was contraband.

"I'm just a passing traveler. This world means nothing to me..."

---

Lunchtime rolled around.

Konata, now armed with a cafeteria tray full of life-restoring food, headed to her usual spot—reserved by Ochako, her cafeteria buddy.

"Being able to eat this every day… this is happiness."

She looked lovingly at her meal like it was her firstborn child.

"Ahem, congrats on becoming class president," Iida said stiffly as he sat across from her. "It's a position I've always aspired to."

"You want it?" she asked, mouth half-full. "You can have it. I'll even tell Aizawa-sensei I quit."

But Iida raised a finger like a lawyer in a courtroom drama.

"No! That would be inappropriate! The class chose you. It would be dishonorable to go against their decision!"

"…You take this way too seriously," she muttered.

"I think you'll do a great job!" Ochako smiled. "You're fun to be around and make everyone feel safe."

"Yeah! You even took down that villain in one shot yesterday!" Kaminari added, practically glowing.

Konata waved her hand. "That was just a one-time thing. My transformation has a cooldown. Five minutes active, then I need three days to recharge. Limited-time offer, y'know?"

Midoriya's eyes lit up like a shonen protagonist mid-power-up. "Wait! Konata-san—so your quirk isn't always usable?"

"Konata-san? Since when did I get honorifics?"

She sighed and resigned herself to explaining for the millionth time.

"Alright, listen. My quirk is actually—"

BRRRRIIIIING!

The campus alarm blared before she could finish.
