Chapter 264: Chapter 263: Eliminating Danzo

Chapter 263: Eliminating Danzo

"Tonari… your eye… that eye…"

Hiruzen Sarutobi was stunned.

He had never imagined that beneath Tonari's white mask lay such an eye.

It wasn't unfamiliar to him—he had seen it before. As the disciple of the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, and having once faced Madara Uchiha, he understood its significance.

He knew how powerful Hashirama Senju was, but that also meant he couldn't ignore the strength of Madara's Sharingan.

Behind him, the Anbu immediately went into high alert.

They had witnessed the aftermath of Tonari's battle against the Root ninjas—a scene of absolute carnage.

Now, standing before them was the legendary Konoha Black Cat—a shinobi so powerful the entire ninja world feared him.

And now, they were the ones facing him.

None of them had ever expected to find themselves in this position.

And they certainly hadn't expected the pressure to be this overwhelming.

Tonari, clad in battle-worn armor, chuckled lightly, his voice laced with amusement.

"What's wrong, Old Man Third? You look… surprised."

Hiruzen flinched slightly at the mocking tone, but quickly recovered.

His brows furrowed deeply.

"Tonari, whatever it is, let's talk this out. I know you and Danzo have your… differences, but we are all Konoha shinobi. There's no need for this."

He had seen Sharingan before.

Even Kakashi had one.

Even Danzo had one…

BOOM—

A surge of chakra erupted from Tonari.

The sheer force was overwhelming.

The Anbu behind Hiruzen had to brace themselves just to remain standing.

Even Hiruzen himself was forced to tighten his stance.

"Tonari, just listen—"

"Listen?!" Tonari cut him off coldly.

"Fine. I'll listen. You tell me, Third Hokage—what's the punishment for a Konoha shinobi colluding with foreign villages during wartime?"

Hiruzen frowned, glancing at Danzo, who was dangling helplessly in Tonari's grip.

Danzo had yet to fully recover from Tonari's Mangekyō Sharingan's genjutsu—his body was weak and unresponsive.

"Danzo's actions were sanctioned by me," Hiruzen said firmly. "It was part of an effort to negotiate an alliance and end the Third Shinobi War."

Tonari scoffed, cutting him off again.

"Oh? So you knew? Fine. Let me ask you this then—what about colluding with a foreign village to BETRAY a fellow Konoha shinobi?"

Hiruzen's eyes narrowed.

"Are you saying Danzo did that?"

"Just answer the question."

Hiruzen hesitated, then spoke. "If a Konoha shinobi is found guilty of betraying their own village, they are to be classified as a rogue ninja."

Tonari grinned, but there was no warmth in it.

"Perfect. Then let me tell you something, Hokage-sama."

"Danzo worked with the Third Raikage."

"He lured me into a trap."

"He GAVE them intel on my weaknesses."

"He planned to have me KILLED!"

Tonari's red Mangekyō Sharingan gleamed ominously, his voice growing dangerously low.

"So tell me, Lord Third—does that make him a rogue ninja?"

Silence.

Hiruzen's face was grim.

For the first time, his gaze wavered.

"Tonari… there must be some kind of misunderstanding. The mission was extremely dangerous… maybe you were just careless and got exposed. Perhaps the Cloud ninja—"

Tonari laughed coldly.

"Your Anbu aren't just for decoration, are they? Send them to investigate. It won't take long to confirm the truth."

Hiruzen hesitated.

Then, with a nod, he gestured for two Anbu to go verify the information.

As the Anbu disappeared, he turned back to Tonari.

"Now, Tonari, release Danzo. We can handle this peacefully."

At that moment—

Danzo finally regained his voice.

"Hah… ha… He's just making excuses!" Danzo coughed violently, but his tone was still defiant.

"He never wanted to take this mission! He's using it as an excuse to attack me! He's dangerous, Hiruzen! He WILL betray Konoha! He must be executed!"

Hiruzen's face darkened.

"Danzo, ENOUGH!"

Danzo ignored him.

His bloodshot eyes locked onto Tonari's Sharingan.

"Look at his eye, Hiruzen! That's MADARA'S eye! I TOLD you he was hiding something!"

Tonari snorted, his grip on Danzo tightening.

"Oh? My eyes are a problem? And YOURS aren't?"

SCHING—

With a casual flick of his Round Dance Blade, Tonari sliced through Danzo's face bandages.

The fabric fell away—

Revealing a spinning Three-Tomoe Sharingan.

The Anbu gasped.

Some of them had never seen Sharingan before—let alone on two non-Uchiha shinobi.

Hiruzen, however, did not seem surprised.

Tonari smirked.

"What's wrong, Third? You already knew, didn't you?"

Hiruzen was silent.

Danzo, however, was not done struggling.

He tried to move—only to feel something tightening around him.

He looked down—

Wooden vines were wrapping around his body.

"W-What—?!"

"Wood Release."

Hiruzen's breath hitched.

The Anbu took an instinctive step back.

Only Konoha shinobi understood the true meaning of Wood Release.

Hiruzen's gaze sharpened.

"You possess Wood Release as well?"

Tonari's expression was cold.

"That surprises you?"

He mocked, his eyes gleaming with amusement.

"You let Danzo experiment on Hashirama's cells, but you're shocked that I can use Wood Release? You don't even know who I really am, do you?"

Tonari raised a hand, more wooden branches extending from his fingers.

"You want to see what I'm hiding? Fine."

"This is… the power of the Senju."

Hiruzen's face twisted with conflict.

Tonari's abilities were forbidden.

Yet—

A shinobi of this caliber was exactly what Konoha needed.

If he could be controlled, he could lead Konoha to victory.

"Tonari…" Hiruzen inhaled deeply. "We can find a way. Konoha can accept—"

Tonari cut him off sharply.

"No thanks."

He exhaled slowly.

"I'm done with this village."

CRACK—

A sickening snap echoed in the air.

"AAAAAGH—!!!"

Danzo's screams pierced the night.

Tonari had kicked his leg in the opposite direction—breaking it at a gruesome angle.

"STOP!" Hiruzen shouted, moving forward.

Tonari glanced up—his blade raised.

SCHLICK—

Danzo's arm hit the ground.

Blood splattered across the floor.

Danzo convulsed, his body twitching violently.

"You—!"

Before anyone could stop him—

Tonari grabbed Danzo's head—

And snapped his neck.

Danzo collapsed lifelessly.

"No more talking." Tonari muttered.

He dropped the corpse unceremoniously.

Silence.

Then—

Hiruzen gritted his teeth.

"Then let me, as the Hokage—TEST your strength!"

He drew his staff.

The battle began.
