Chapter 45: Chapter 45 Gaara! Stop It Now!
At noon, Morkel went to buy groceries and cook as usual.
Just after performing the Flying Thunder God Technique, Sarutobi Konohamaru appeared again!
Morkel noticed that every time he met this little guy, it was either at the vegetable market or on the way there.
Could it be that the vegetable market was Konohamaru's default refresh point?
As soon as Konohamaru saw Morkel, he ran forward and hugged Morkel's waist, pleading, "Brother Morkel! You're finally here. I've been waiting for you for so long!"
"What's up?" Morkel asked with a straight face.
He had a feeling this kid was about to cause trouble again.
"Teach me another jutsu! The one you used to blast a huge hole last time! You only taught me the basics before, but not the advanced parts!" Konohamaru begged.
Morkel immediately understood that Konohamaru was talking about Wind Style Shuriken.
This kid had already dared to throw a Rasengan at the Third Hokage after learning it!
If he learned Wind Style Shuriken and used it on the Third Hokage, things would get out of control!
That could actually kill someone!
So Morkel quickly made up an excuse and refused outright.
Konohamaru pouted for a moment before running off.
Morkel had already left a Flying Thunder God mark on Konohamaru.
So he just stood there, arms crossed, watching the little guy run.
No matter where Konohamaru ran, Morkel could catch up in an instant.
Just as Morkel was about to teleport to him, he noticed something concerning.
Konohamaru had crashed into a pedestrian.
What's worse, the man had grabbed Konohamaru by the collar and lifted him off the ground!
The man was dressed strangely, wearing black clothing, a hat that covered most of his face, and a bandaged object strapped to his back.
A Sand Village forehead protector was tied around his head.
He held Konohamaru in his grasp and sneered, "Hey, brat, don't you watch where you're going?"
Konohamaru, startled by the man's odd attire, stammered, "S-Sorry."
The man, Kankuro, didn't let go. Instead, he tightened his grip. "You think an apology is enough?"
Morkel stepped forward. "I'm sorry, it was our mistake. Can you put my brother down first?"
Kankuro glanced at Morkel and scoffed. "A Genin from Konoha? You don't look like much."
Behind him, a blonde-haired girl carrying a huge fan raised an eyebrow as she looked at Morkel.
This guy... is actually kind of handsome.
She patted Kankuro's shoulder. "Kankuro, stop it. You'll get into trouble."
Kankuro ignored her, keeping his grip on Konohamaru.
The boy squirmed, his face red. "Let me go!"
"I hate brats like you. So arrogant for your size. I should just kill you right now," Kankuro muttered.
Morkel's eyes narrowed.
That wasn't a joke.
Konohamaru's hands trembled. "Brother Morkel... I can't breathe..."
Morkel's expression darkened. "Put him down. Now."
Kankuro sneered. "And if I don't?"
Morkel placed a kunai on the ground, his mark flashing.
In an instant, he vanished.
Before anyone could react, he appeared in mid-air behind Konohamaru.
He struck Kankuro's wrist in a precise motion.
"Bang!"
Pain shot through Kankuro's arm, forcing him to let go.
Morkel caught Konohamaru mid-air and, in the next second, teleported back to his kunai.
It all happened in the blink of an eye.
Kankuro and the others barely saw Morkel move before the boy was rescued.
Temari's eyes widened. "What kind of ninjutsu is that?!"
Kankuro clenched his fists, chakra threads forming between his fingers.
"Tch, it's just a cheap escape trick. Don't get too cocky."
He wrapped the chakra threads around Morkel's leg.
But before he could pull Morkel down, the boy's chakra surged, instantly breaking the threads apart.
Kankuro scowled and reached for the bandaged object on his back.
He was getting serious.
Temari sighed and covered her face. She knew trying to stop him was useless.
Just then, a voice rang out from the trees.
"Enough. You're embarrassing the Sand Village."
Kankuro froze.
A ninja stood upside down on a tree trunk, arms crossed.
He had no eyebrows, a "love" symbol carved into his forehead, and a large gourd on his back.
His cold teal eyes swept over Kankuro.
A chill ran down Kankuro's spine. "G-Gaara... Listen, they started it..."
Gaara's voice was flat and emotionless. "What do you think we came to Konoha for?"
Kankuro swallowed hard, his forehead sweating.
He immediately put his weapon back and lowered his head.
Morkel studied the newcomer.
A gourd. A tattoo. No eyebrows.
Gaara.
One of the strongest competitors in the Chūnin Exam.
Gaara turned his gaze to Morkel. "You."
Morkel met his stare without flinching.
The air grew heavy with tension.
Gaara's lips barely moved. "Don't get in my way."
Morkel smirked. "We'll see about that."
The Chūnin Exams were about to begin.
