Chapter 724 - The Kingmaker’s Dilemma
Broken remained silent for a moment, his gaze sweeping across the faces in the room. After a brief pause, he spoke.
"Once again, thank you for sharing your thoughts. Even if not everyone has spoken yet, I believe what's been said already represents both sides of the argument well enough."
He glanced at the gathered group, then continued.
"I have three reasons why I might decide to let Alora take the crown as Queen Regnant, the Sovereign Ruler."
That alone made his stance on the matter clear.
"First—Respect for her."
He straightened slightly, his expression resolute. "I'm confident that if I asked, she would willingly hand the crown over to me."
Broken paused, letting the weight of his words settle before adding, "Does that make me a bit arrogant?"
"Shut up," Jovina interjected with a playful smirk. "The fact that you can marry her at all shows just how much influence you already have, Broken. Haha."
Broken smiled softly and nodded.
"I don't want to strip Alora of her crown and humiliate her in front of the nobility and the people. Considering how her position has already been undermined and attacked from multiple fronts, this is her best chance to prove that she is worthy of ruling as the true sovereign of Dissidia."
His gaze shifted to everyone present before he continued.
"Second—Political Stability. I believe this is exactly what Maylock mentioned earlier. If I immediately declared myself the new sovereign ruler, it could trigger rebellion from the traditionalist nobles, who still see us as outsiders—players, not native Dissidians."
There were no objections, so Broken pressed on.
"Third—this one's more personal. I don't care much for titles. My priority is protecting the kingdom and protecting Alora. Beyond that, I'm happy to let Alora handle politics while I focus on defending the realm and completing quests that will require me to travel outside the kingdom."
His voice softened slightly. "This way, we both serve Dissidia in the ways we're best suited for."
Several people remained silent, still processing his words. The atmosphere felt heavy with thought—until RememberMe broke the silence.
"Damn!" RememberMe exclaimed, grinning wide. "My dream of calling you King Broken has to be delayed!"
Before anyone could react, Forev cut in. "You idiot. Broken is still the King, you asshole. It's just that Princess Alora will be the one sitting in the highest political seat, as the Queen Regnant."
Elincia nodded in agreement. "I think your decision is reasonable, Broken. By focusing on defense and military strength, you'll steadily earn respect from more people. You won't just be a political figure—you'll be known as the Sword King, the protector of the realm."
Before Broken could respond, Booba jumped in with his usual enthusiasm.
"Broken, you don't need to worry about all this! We can build our own kingdom later and make you the true sovereign. That way, both you and Alora will have your own kingdoms!"
Jovina chimed in. "And Ivana too, right? She is a princess too."
The mention of Ivana caused a ripple through the group. Several heads turned, their focus shifting toward the unexpected subject.
"Did I just mess up the discussion?" Jovina asked, grinning.
"No," Maylock said with a firm tone. "You didn't mess up the discussion, Jovina. The matter of Ivana is important, and we'll need to address it—just after we finish this current topic."
Broken exhaled slowly, nodding in agreement.
Goldrich raised his hand, immediately drawing everyone's attention.
"Broken, I want to ask you something," he began. "Do you still have the desire to build your own kingdom in the future?"
The room grew quieter as his question hung in the air.
"As you know," Goldrich continued, "I'll always support you, no matter how ambitious your goal is. But I do hope your goal is big enough to make this old man work harder and feel the spirit of youth again." He grinned as he finished.
Broken's lips curved into a faint smirk as he gave a small nod.
"As big as we can make it. Kingdom? Continent? Or even the whole world."
Goldrich chuckled warmly. "I've always liked your spirit, Broken."
The discussion continued, still revolving around Broken's decision regarding the succession of the kingdom. Ideas were exchanged, concerns raised, and opinions debated. Yet, after much deliberation, everyone finally reached the same agreement.
Broken would indeed become King, but as the husband of the next Queen of Dissidia, Alora. His title would officially be King Consort. More importantly, Broken made it clear that his role wouldn't simply be symbolic.
His commitment would be to Military and Strategic Leadership, a vital part of the kingdom's future stability. With his resources, tactical mind, and battle-hardened subordinates, Broken was uniquely suited for this role.
Under this arrangement, Alora would assume the role of the kingdom's respected monarch — a symbol of unity and stability, the guiding figurehead of Dissidia. Meanwhile, Broken would be recognized as The Kingdom's Protector — a formidable force dedicated to safeguarding the realm and securing its future.
It was a clever balance of power. The arrangement would resonate with both the traditionalists who valued continuity and the progressives who sought strength and change.
Many nobles already acknowledged Broken's contributions after witnessing his efforts during the war to defend Dissidia. This new role would only reinforce his image as the kingdom's shield, a guardian who stood in the face of danger.
In time, the people wouldn't remember him as an outsider.
They would see him as the man who stood on the frontlines — the one who would defend their homeland at any cost.
As the discussion reached its conclusion, they agreed to postpone a more detailed conversation about the division of power and the kingdom's rebuilding process. For now, one thing was clear—their responsibilities had expanded far beyond Slumdon. They were now responsible for the entire Dissidia Kingdom.
With the kingdom in disarray, there would be many threats to contend with. Neighboring kingdoms and opportunistic factions might try to exploit Dissidia's weakened state to further destabilize it—or even take parts of it for themselves.
Because of that, it was agreed that ongoing discussions would be necessary to address preventive measures and strategic plans to protect the kingdom from outside threats in the near future.
Goldrich chuckled as he responded to the discussion. "You really arrived at the perfect time, Maylock."
Maylock responded with a faint smile.
After more extended discussions, their conversation began to shift toward another pressing matter.
"Now," Maylock finally said. "We need to talk about Ivana."
However...
Suddenly, a loud banging echoed through the room, the heavy pounding on the door coming in rapid bursts.
Tora immediately moved to open it.
When the door swung wide, everyone froze in surprise.
Standing there, out of breath and clearly distressed, was Fokil.

"Broken!" Fokil's voice carried a note of panic.
Broken shot up from his chair, striding toward him with a concerned frown.
"Sir, is something urgent?" he asked.
Fokil nodded quickly. "It's Ivana!"
"Ivana? What happened to her?"
Fokil clenched his fists, his breathing uneven. "We can't find her anywhere."
"What?!"
