Chapter 358: The Kidnapper's Identity, Luo An's Chain of Schemes
The man sitting across from Luo An in the interrogation room was the very Black Headscarf Man from the previous shootout at the industrial park, a subordinate and loyalist of Farhad's father, Maxwell.
The surveillance footage Luo An showed him was exactly of Jesenia being taken away by Reesi and the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Department.
"Do you know what the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Department does?"
Watching Maxwell, who kept a steady face but whose eyes began to move more frequently, Luo An poured him a cup of coffee and softly explained:
"The main role of this department is to tax every source of income for federal citizens.
This 'every source' includes smuggling, money laundering, robbery, drug trafficking..."
"OK! I know what the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation does!"
When Luo An mentioned Jesenia's economic situation had many issues, and now that she was so preoccupied with the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Department that she had no time to rescue them, Maxwell could no longer contain himself, lifting his head to stare intently at Luo An:
"What do you want to do?"
"I don't want to do anything, I'm just feeling sorry for you.
How many things have you done for Jesenia, how much money have you made for her? What was the result? What has Jesenia given you?"
Luo An chuckled softly, retracting the surveillance screen from Maxwell and handing it back to Mona, with a smile on his face:
"Without Jesenia's help, you and Farhad are definitely going to spend the rest of your lives in federal prison.
As far as I know, Farhad hasn't had children yet, right? His family lineage will end with him.
And he's not even thirty this year, and not bad-looking either; those guys in federal prison who jump at anyone they see..."
Luo An's interrogation method was simple, Farhad only had revenge on his mind, and threatening him with Jesenia would likely be useless, and could even provoke his resistance.
Since Maxwell was a loyalist to Farhad's family, there's no way he could neglect the safety of Farhad's... latter half of life.
Sure enough, after listening to Luo An's detailed description of the culture and people within federal prison, Maxwell's complexion turned completely dark:
"Enough! What exactly do you want?"
Seeing Maxwell's face change, Luo An wasted no more words and got straight to the point:
"Tell me who the people who kidnapped Kara are, and where they are.
In return, when the court is in session, I will fight for a slightly better prison for you guys with the judge."
Upon hearing Luo An's words, Maxwell scoffed:
"Just help us change prisons? I demand that you help us apply to the judge for the maximum reduction of our sentences!"
"You know that's impossible, Maxwell."
Luo An spread his hands and laughed:
"How many people did you bring into federal this time, how much armament, how many SWAT members were mobilized? It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say your action was a terrorist attack.
When I say I'll fight for you to change prisons, it shows I'm not lying to you.
If I told you I could help you get sentence reductions and parole, would you believe me?"
"..."
Hearing Luo An's words, Maxwell fell silent.
He really wanted to curse, but he had to admit that what Luo An said was actually true.
The air in the interrogation room stayed quiet for quite a while until, after a long time, Maxwell breathed a sigh and said in a deep voice:
"Besides a more comfortable prison, I have one more demand, which is that you must keep me, Farhad, and the remaining few of our guys together in the same prison."
Aside from Farhad and Maxwell, there were three fortunate ones among the Black Headscarf Men who did not die.
If they could be locked in the same prison, Maxwell felt he could be more certain of protecting Farhad's... second half of life.
Luo An considered for a moment, then nodded his head:
"OK, I'll explain the matter to the judge."
Seeing Luo An nod in agreement, Maxwell breathed a sigh of relief, picked up the coffee on the table, gulped it down, and said in a low voice:
"The guy who kidnapped that kid isn't one of ours, he was an extra someone Jesenia found.
I don't know his name, I only know he's a bald white man without eyebrows.
Also, before the actual action, one of my subordinates saw his car and told me the license plate number."
"Good."
Luo An nodded with satisfaction, asked for the license plate number and immediately had Mona start an investigation, while also calling for a sketch artist to hurry to the interrogation room, to create a composite sketch of that no-eyebrow guy described by Maxwell.
With the exact license plate number, even before the sketch was finished, Mona quickly found the car:
"The other party is using fake plates, but it indeed is a black Buick sedan.
Moreover, the car tracking shows that on the night Kara disappeared, it went straight to a small town in the southern part of Pleasanton City."
"Very good."
Luo An bent down to closely examine the computer screen and asked:
"Have you figured out who the driver is?"
"Of course! In a parking lot in North Los Angeles, he was photographed getting out of the car to buy food."
Mona's fingers rapidly typed on the keyboard, and a photo of a man with no hair or eyebrows appeared on the computer screen:
"Kendrick, 37 years old this year, with multiple charges, unemployed.
However, FBI's database indicates that this guy is suspected to be an assassin."
"It seems that the assassin business is really a blue ocean industry in the federal."
Luo An laughed and patted Mona's shoulder, then pulled out his phone and called the team leader Potante Byrne:
"Boss, we have found the guy who kidnapped Kara and killed the nanny, he's in a small town in the southern part of Pleasanton City..."
Given that Kendrick's location was quite far from Los Angeles, rather than driving all the way there themselves, it was better to ask the team leader for help, so he could coordinate local law enforcement for cooperation.
Potante Byrne nodded in agreement and said he would take care of it. Luo An hung up the phone with a chuckle, and Mona, seeing this, raised her head and asked with curiosity:
"What exactly are Reesi and Michelle doing in Pleasanton City?"
"Buying time."
Luo An sat down beside Mona, stretched lazily, and explained with a smile:
"The aim is to overwhelm Jesenia."
Luo An's plan was simple, have Reesi... Michelle, Elmer, and Kara's mother, Madeline Allen interrupt Jesenia's plan to have Kara recognized as the heir at the shareholder's meeting, and herself as Kara's guardian.
Then have Kara's father, John Rodriguez, take Jesenia's place at the shareholder's meeting to accomplish this task, to establish Kara as the heir and himself as the legal guardian of Kara.
As for whether the shareholders will refuse... there are various plots and dissatisfaction with Jesenia among the shareholders, so as long as enough benefits are dispersed to divide and conquer them, John, an experienced CIA agent and a partner in a chemical company, will not fail.
At the same time, Luo An himself interrogated Maxwell, acquired the kidnapper's information, and after arresting him, he would find a way to make the kidnapper identify Jesenia.
Thus, as the behind-the-scenes mastermind, Jesenia, facing the combined identification of Maxwell and the kidnapper, and overwhelmed, would naturally fail completely and come to an end.
Clap clap clap—
After listening to Luo An's explanation, Mona clapped her hands repeatedly, full of admiration:
"Brilliant!
And Reesi was right, when you start smiling so nicely, it means you're planning to trap someone."
Luo An: "..."
Two hours later, as Luo An was waiting for news from the action in the small town, his phone suddenly rang. Picking it up, he saw it was Reesi who was calling.
Luo An's brow furrowed slightly, could there be a problem in Pleasanton City?
