Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 360: The Consequences of Arson, Heading to Washington Headquarters

That afternoon, assassin Kendrick was brought into the Special Investigation Team and quickly gave a full account of what had happened.

Jesenia was also temporarily taken away by the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Department due to tax issues, along with her personal secretary and personal lawyer.

These two knew the most, and with the prevailing social habit of the federal interest coming first, it was not hard to guess Jesenia's fate—federal prison was her likely destiny.

In the afternoon, Chief Elmer of the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) also called Luo An to briefly explain the situation, without any blame and even jokingly told Luo An, "Make sure to call me for this kind of case in the future."

The Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Department doesn't mind being busy, doesn't mind being troubled; they just mind not getting money.

"..."

Luo An hung up the phone with a speechless expression, and gained a new understanding of the work style and power of the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Department.

By evening, just before getting off work, Reesi and Michelle returned to Los Angeles.

Since they had been handling this kidnapping case for three straight days, Luo An simply let them take a half-day off, and it was not until noon on Thursday that all four of them came in to work.

"I hate these half-day types of holidays."

In the office area, Reesi yawned incessantly as she took a big bite of a Mexican chicken wrap, looking utterly deflated:

"You can't get a good sleep and can't fully enjoy playing."

Next to her, Mona took a sip of coffee and laughed:

"Good, then I'll tell Luo An that Reesi doesn't need to take those half-day holidays from now on."

Hearing this, Reesi suddenly widened her eyes and lunged towards Mona with her arms open:

"Wow, you're so mean!"

"Hold on!"

Just as Reesi was about to pounce on Mona, Mona quickly picked up a burger from her desk and stuffed it in Reesi's mouth:

"I had a bad stomach from eating something wrong yesterday, and I'm not feeling very well now."

"Sorry."

Hearing Mona's words, Reesi immediately stopped and sat back down in her chair.

Mona let out a sigh of relief and then cast a sinister glance at the team leader's office without anyone noticing.

Yesterday, in the team leader's office, she had only started a fire without putting it out, and she had a good laugh covering her mouth watching Luo An's anxious look.

Then last night, Mona realized the consequences of starting fires heedlessly, as she still hadn't fully recovered and her legs were still a bit weak.

This made Mona suspect that the so-called half-day holiday was Luo An's way of settling personal scores.

"I have some medicine here for stomach troubles."

Hearing Mona complain about feeling unwell, Michelle immediately took out a bottle of medicine from her desk and handed it to her, and Mona's eyes flashed with embarrassment, but she still said thank you.

Michelle smiled and nodded, moving her chair back to her own desk, then asked with some confusion:

"Reesi, why are you so sleepy?"

During the half-day holiday, Michelle had read a book and taken a good nap, now feeling very energized.

Without answering Michelle's question and not yet finishing chewing the burger, Reesi lay down on the desk and fell asleep.

"..."

Seeing this, Michelle didn't know what to say, Mona patted her shoulder indicating not to worry:

"You don't know Reesi's situation; she must have gone out to play with some girl last night."

"That must be it."

Michelle nodded in resignation, realizing that in this Special Investigation Team, there was not a single person in the conventional sense of normal.

Michelle herself was very fond of reading, willing to forego other desires just to immerse herself in books.

Reesi had a strong affection for beautiful girls, and felt uncomfortable all over if he didn't see one for a day.

Mona was extremely passionate about hacking various computer systems; if not for the FBI uniform she wore, she would have probably ended up in prison by now.

As for the deputy team leader, Luo An... Michelle scratched her head. On the surface, Luo An seemed quite normal, but in reality, Luo An was probably the most abnormal among them—it's just that she hadn't yet discovered what was off about him.

With that thought, Michelle asked:

"Mona, where did Deputy Team Leader Luo An go? I haven't seen him today."

"He's in the team supervisor's office."

Mona answered casually:

"It's probably something to do with the Washington Headquarters."

Hearing this, Michelle nodded and didn't inquire further.

There was still a lot of follow-up work to be done on Kara's case, and the three of them had an abundance of files on their desks.

Seeing that Reesi was sound asleep, Michelle covered him with a jacket and then took several files from Reesi's desk and started working through them at her own desk.

On the other side, in the team supervisor's office.

The team supervisor, Potante Byrne, handed a notice to Luo An and leaned back, his eyes full of admiration as he watched Luo An.

As the team supervisor, Potante Byrne was well aware of Luo An's actions during the latter half of the case, and the experienced Byrne quickly noticed Luo An's successful approach.

After a brief analysis of the benefits and interests obtained by each party through Luo An's actions, Potante Byrne couldn't help but sigh.

It really was a pity such an outstanding talent wasn't part of his team.

Luo An wasn't aware of Potante Byrne's thoughts and feelings. He took the folder handed to him and found inside a formal notification from Washington Headquarters, ordering him to travel to Washington by next Monday.

The notice also briefly introduced the contents of the evaluation and scrutiny these Special Investigation Team leaders would undergo:

Apart from reviewing and assessing the cases they had previously managed, it included a psychological assessment and an interview review.

Luo An could understand and was not particularly concerned about the psychological assessment.

But concerning the interview review, the notice did not specify the exact content of the interview assessment or the aspects to be scrutinized, prompting Luo An to look up with a smile and ask:

"Chief, what exactly is this interview review about?"

"It's just some simple interview questions."

Potante Byrne chuckled. According to FBI regulations, to be officially promoted to an internal team management position in the FBI, one must demonstrate sufficient organizational coordination and adaptive capabilities, among other professional skills, which is what the interview would examine.

"Usually, there are seven examiners in the interview, one principal and six deputies; the questions asked are the most likely scenarios encountered in case work..."

Potante Byrne gave Luo An a brief rundown of the types of questions he might encounter in the interview; none too difficult, and nothing Luo An couldn't handle.

After listening to Potante Byrne's description, Luo An breathed a sigh of relief and said with a smile:

"I see, thank you, Chief."

"Mm."

After a brief chat, Potante Byrne advised Luo An to hurry up and deal with the aftermath of the kidnapping case, reminding him not to forget to bring along the dossiers of all cases he had previously worked on when traveling to Washington Headquarters, as the examiners might ask specific questions about details from those cases.

"Okay, thank you, Chief."

Acknowledging this, Luo An soon left the team supervisor's office.

In the following two days, Luo An and the Special Investigation Team continued to deal with the aftermath of the kidnapping case, but since the case was so complex, they had not finished handling everything by the time Luo An and Mona were due to travel to Washington.

On Sunday, Luo An and Mona boarded a plane to the FBI Washington Headquarters.

Meanwhile, Reesi and Michelle were temporarily working overtime in the office area, dealing with the follow-up of the case, when the door to the Special Investigation Team's office was suddenly knocked on.

Both turned their heads, and a familiar man appeared before them.
