Chapter 505: The Reason Why Three Wanted Criminals Kidnapped a Bank Robber
In the gloomy mine shaft, Cockerland's shouts sounded so desperate they broke, resembling the castrates of ancient Eastern courts.
Luo An paused when he heard the other's words, seeing the chilling tip of the dagger stop in front of him, and Cockerland breathed a huge sigh of relief.
Hiss—
"Ah—"
The next second, a flash of white light, blood spurted, and Cockerland screamed as his pupils dilated, because Luo An had still cut the tendons at his left wrist with the dagger.
"Fu-k!"
Cockerland, reeling from the intense pain and acutely aware of the consequences of having his tendons cut, glared at Luo An with bloodshot eyes, and cursed vociferously:
"I told you, I'm with the CIA! Why would you still..."
"Because I don't believe you."
Luo An picked up the dagger and wiped the blood on Cockerland's clothes, revealing a cornered grin that he himself found rather amiable:
"Since you say you know the identities of those robbers and the truth about the bank robbery, then start with clarifying these matters.
And how can you prove you are with the CIA? Why would the CIA get involved with this bank robbery case?"
"*#%¥..."
Seeing the smile on Luo An's face, Cockerland sucked in a breath of cold air.
In Cockerland's view, the smile on Luo An's face was terrifyingly ferocious.
On the other hand, Cockerland realized that he could no longer muster any strength in his left hand, and his waist, which had just been kicked by Luo An, was in excruciating pain, most likely some bones were broken.
Taking a few quick breaths to suppress the severe pain coming from his body, Cockerland said in a hoarse voice:
"The five bank robbers' names are Joseph, Carter, Modlin, Ferdinand, and Brooke..."
Cockerland claimed these names were extracted from the Pollard brothers.
Previously, the Pollard brothers and that Francisco, while drinking at a bar in Oregon, overheard a man boasting about buying a sports car after getting drunk.
The others laughed it off, disbelieving, while the man loudly claimed he was rich now, but stubbornly refused to explain the sudden windfall.
At first, the three fugitives thought it was just a drunkard's shameless bragging, something they had seen all too often.
But since they were in need of money, guided by the adage of 'trying their luck,' they kidnapped the drunkard for a ransom.
To their surprise, the man named Modlin was indeed very rich and turned out to be one of the robbers from the Los Angeles Bank heist.
After a particularly brutal torture, the trio learned that the robbers had stolen over three million US Dollars in cash from the bank, as well as several checks totaling nearly five million from a metal cabinet; the six robbers had taken nearly eight million US Dollars in total.
Having successfully extorted nearly 1.1 million US Dollars from Modlin and discovering the identities of the other five bank robbers, the trio of fugitives didn't hesitate to kill him. They then quickly convened to plan their next steps:
Find the other five bank robbers, turn the tables on them, and seize all the money robbed from the bank for themselves!
The first one they looked for was Ke Green, because he was closest to Oregon.
The person who had shot at Reesi's car was indeed Cockerland, aiming to obstruct Reesi's pursuit.
After successfully stopping Reesi, Cockerland immediately took off by car, pursuing the Pollard brothers.
In the building, the three vicious men were torturing Ke Green, asking many questions. When Cockerland arrived, he only heard the matter of the millions of US Dollars and hadn't learned the identities of the other five robbers.
Then the Pollard brothers and Francisco detected Cockerland, who hadn't planned to fight the three fugitives at first; he just wanted to ask some questions.
But the three fugitives seriously doubted Cockerland's identity, didn't believe a word he said, and wasted no time getting physical.
Cockerland fought back and killed Francisco; the Pollard brothers, enraged, began a frenzied pursuit of Cockerland.
Not until reaching this small town, being forced into an abandoned factory by the local police, and then surrounded by the FBI and SWAT teams.
Faced with a common enemy, that's when the Pollard brothers chose to cease fighting, temporarily planning to join forces with Cockerland to break out of the encirclement, and then deal with what comes after.
As they fled towards the mine tunnel amidst the cover of dust from the collapsing factory, Cockerland was finally able to extract the names and identities of the five robbers from the mouths of the Pollard brothers.
"Here's what happened..."
Due to the severe pain he was enduring, Cockerland spoke in bursts, his speech not very fast.
As for the Pollard brothers at his side, adrenaline could only take them so far. After Luo An severed their tendons and kicked them to the ground, they never got back up.
Coupled with bullet wounds and slashes from Luo An's dagger which flayed their flesh, the Pollard brothers were drenched in blood. Their shirts, soaked with blood, had turned to crimson robes. It didn't take long before they completely lost consciousness on the ground.
During Cockerland's narrative, Winslow and the SWAT officers arrived on scene, weapons drawn.
Seeing the Pollard brothers unconscious on the ground and the agony on Cockerland's face, the SWAT officers were dumbstruck.
It wasn't hard for the SWAT team to assess the situation—they could clearly see that Luo An, outnumbered three to one, had defeated his opponents.
The three SWAT officers who had been overpowered by the Pollard brothers confronted the sight of the brothers' bodies, riddled with wounds and blood, along with Luo An's relatively few knife cuts, exchanged glances, seeing disbelief in one another's eyes.
Knowing the Pollard brothers relied on ambush tactics equivalent to the skills of three SWAT officers, and now Luo An had overcome them with a three-to-one disadvantage, including the trembling assassin, did that mean Luo An's abilities were equivalent to four, five, or even six SWAT officers?
The math wasn't exactly rigorous, but as the SWAT officers contemplated this, their minds were filled with thoughts of impossibility. With Luo An being so formidable, which side between them and Luo An truly belonged in an office?
Different from the SWAT officers, whose eyes were filled with disbelief, admiration, and respect, Winslow was relieved to see Luo An unharmed.
The devastation around him also shocked Winslow, but he quickly reigned in his emotions and briskly walked to Luo An's side, aiming his gun at Cockerland and asked with a stern face:
"Luo An, how are your wounds?"
"It's nothing."
Luo An gave a slight smile, his wounds indeed a bit painful, but they were few and not deep, within a tolerable range.
"Get those two out of here quickly."
Luo An gestured for Winslow and the others to hurry and remove the Pollard brothers, who were lying in a pool of blood, from the mine tunnel.
If he remembered correctly, those brothers, due to their numerous evil deeds and lives they had taken, as well as constantly evading capture, had several Bounty Orders on them in the FBI database, with quite a sum up for grabs.
"OK."
Several SWAT officers suppressed their inner shock, took a deep look at Luo An, and quickly holstered their weapons to carry the Pollard brothers out.
"And me!"
Seeing this, Cockerland raised his hand to voice out, indicating that he could still be saved.
"You don't have many wounds on you, no need to hurry."
Luo An chuckled, not waiting for Cockerland to curse at him; he waved the dagger in his hand in front of Cockerland's eyes and said:
"You still haven't answered my question. How can you prove you're from the CIA? Why is the CIA interfering in this bank robbery case?"
"I really am from the CIA."
Cockerland fell silent for a few seconds, then lifted his head and said:
"The details of this matter can't be known by too many people; I can only talk to you alone."
Winslow, standing nearby with furrowed brows, was about to speak when Luo An gestured for him to stop, closely watching Cockerland for a few seconds. Luo An agreed to his request with a smile, instructing Winslow to step away for a moment.
"I'll be close by."
Winslow gave Cockerland a cold look, and with several SWAT officers put away their weapons and moved away. Once everyone had left, Luo An spread his hands out:
"OK, you can talk now."
Cockerland took several deep breaths and began to briefly describe his reasons for getting involved in the case.
As Luo An listened, the smile on his face grew wider and wider.
Because aside from the initial statement, "I am from the CIA," nearly 60% of Cockerland's following words were lies or half-truths!
