Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 551: The Truth of the Case, You Seek Profit, I Seek Principal

FBI Washington Headquarters, Investigation Group 13 Office Area.

The office area was somewhat busy as several people organized items in preparation for the upcoming interrogation. Reesi approached Chenier with a folder in hand and asked:

"I just heard, was Osmon hit by a car?"

Winslow, Michelle, and Mona all turned their attention here.

"Yes."

Chenier nodded:

"He's in the hospital fighting for his life."

"It seems someone was trying to silence him."

Reesi curled her lips, suddenly remembering something, and asked:

"Are we going to investigate this car accident later?"

Chenier spread her hands indicating she didn't know either, and just as Mona was about to speak, Luo An suddenly pushed open the office door and entered.

Hearing Reesi's question, Luo An, who had just returned from Vireness's office, answered:

"That car accident doesn't need our investigation."

The agents present were somewhat surprised; Luo An took off his coat and put it aside, explaining:

"The driver who caused the accident, his backer has already been identified. It is a buyer who purchased Osmon's fund offering an annual yield of 17%."

Winslow and the others exchanged glances, Reesi was somewhat surprised:

"Not to silence him?"

Luo An handed the folder to everyone, explaining:

"Over at the Securities and Exchange Commission, they have completed the review of Osmon's fund and confirmed it is a Ponzi scheme.

We cannot rule out silencing him, but current investigation results suggest that this accident was more like revenge."

The mastermind behind hiring the driver to cause the accident was the owner of a chain store, who had spent nearly ten million US Dollars on Osmon's fund.

Winslow, Chenier, and others looked at the document in their hands, perplexed. Luo An picked up his coffee and took a sip, saying:

"The owner of that chain of stores realized that it was a Ponzi scheme.

But he thought at the very least he wouldn't lose; even if the scheme eventually failed, he could still get his principal back.

However, Osmon did not use this money as I had guessed by simply moving funds around in the typical Ponzi scheme way; instead, he invested that money in pharmaceutical company drug research."

Reesi suddenly realized:

"So, all the money was spent?"

"Not all of it, just a large portion."

Luo An put down his coffee cup and said lightly:

"The remaining money is simply not enough to cover the losses of the investors who purchased the fund. Some people who invested tens of millions of dollars would only get back a few million."

Mona closed the folder and scoffed:

"A game of passing the parcel, these investors thought that eventually someone else would end up holding the bag, the orchestrator Osmon would end up in jail, and they would make a hefty profit.

Turns out, Osmon was only after their principal."

Winslow tossed the file aside in disdain, Chenier and Reesi scoffed, Michelle's expression unchanged as she organized items. Having worked in Washington D.C. for many years, she knew well:

In the federation, the wealthier people are, the greedier they tend to be.

Luo An chuckled, took the information materials handed over by Michelle, and said:

"Let's start the interrogation; we've caught the person, but we still haven't figured out why Nockvic was killed."

Chenier nodded, picked up her notebook, and walked towards the interrogation room with Luo An.

Luo An started the interrogation with Lewis, the owner of the security company.

During the previous arrest operation, Lewis had been desperately trying to destroy his laptop, which indeed contained some evidence. Mona had not spent much effort to extract that information.

With conclusive evidence, Lewis Kutt quickly confessed everything and signed a basic plea agreement, then admitted that he had killed Nockvic-Brage.

But Lewis was just paid to do the job and didn't know why Nockvic needed to be killed; thus, Luo An and Chenier proceeded to the next interrogation room.

In Interrogation Room 2, a Caucasian woman with burgundy long hair, wearing golden-rimmed glasses and a white ladies' suit, sat with her head down, hands cuffed to the interrogation table, silent.

Chenier walked into the interrogation room first, holding a notebook and sitting expressionlessly across the interrogation table.

"Good afternoon, Miss Vivian."

It was a moment before Luo An entered the room with two cups of coffee, placing one of which in front of Vivian and saying with a smile:

"This is the coffee beans my boss just gave me, they have a very nice taste, you can try some."

"..."

Vivian looked up at Luo An, remained silent for a few seconds, took a sip of the coffee, and then asked with a slightly hoarse voice:

"How is the company doing now?"

"Not so well."

Luo An picked up his own cup of coffee and tasted it, smiling as he answered:

"Your company's boss, Mr. Osmon, accidentally had a car accident, and is currently in the operating room, the situation doesn't seem very good."

Another long silence passed, Luo An finished his coffee, and spoke lightly:

"Miss Vivian, Lewis has already confessed everything, silence won't solve problems, what do you think?"

Upon hearing this, Vivian slowly raised her head and asked expressionlessly:

"What do you want to know?"

"The reason for hiring a murderer."

"That guy stole my stuff."

Vivian leaned back and crossed her legs, scoffed and said:

"The Bible says, 'Thou shalt not steal,' those who steal deserve to be killed."

"I didn't expect Miss Vivian, being a scientist, to actually be religious."

Luo An chuckled, set the coffee cup aside, picked up four documents from beside Chenier, and slowly pushed them towards Vivian with a smile:

"Miss Vivian, this report on the left, is from the laboratory hired by Nockvic with his own money, testing your developed drug, showing it has almost no effect.

The two in the middle, are reports found at your scientific research lab's desk and from the company boss Osmon's place.

They show your drug has very significant effects, but it's still not stable enough for mass production.

The one on the right, also found by my agents in the scientific research lab, not from the desk but in your safe.

The content of this testing report is surprisingly the same as Nockvic's, also showing your drug almost has no effect."

Seeing the three testing reports in front of her, Vivian's face turned ominously dark, and Luo An said with a smile:

"Miss Vivian, the Bible seems to say that lying is also a sin."

"Damn it!"

As Luo An's words fell, Vivian suddenly shouted furiously:

"I didn't lie! My research direction is not wrong! The current drugs are just in a transitional phase, just give me a little more time, I can definitely overcome the difficulties!"

Watching Vivian who was so angry her face turned bright red, Luo An smiled, not arguing over the scientific issues:

"But the reports you gave to Osmon were all fake."

"It's not fake! I told you! It's not fake!"

Vivian clenched her fists and kept knocking on the interrogation table, shouting loudly:

"That was my anticipated research outcome! It's just that there are still some technical bottlenecks that I am overcoming, it's not fake!"

"..."

Chenier looked at Vivian with a speechless expression, Luo An grinned and packed up the reports.

Previously, when Mona and the others went to arrest Vivian, they found two different types of drugs in that scientific research lab.

One was the ineffective drug stolen by Nockvic, the other was an effective one.

However, according to testing, the effective drug was merely some anti-cancer medications available on the market with extra nutrients added, which Vivian used to deceive Osmon.

Nockvic stole the real medicine from the lab, and Vivian, fearing the inefficacy of the drugs would be exposed, had him killed.

"One playing a Ponzi scheme, defrauding money from others; one wanting money for research, to reassure the other party, not only painstakingly making fake drugs but also playing poker with the other party and his good friends..."

After the interrogation was over, aware of the truth, Chenier left the interrogation room with an odd look in her eyes, and Reesi approached:

"Luo An, Vireness wants you to go to her office."
