Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 599: Luo An Being Chased, Police Block the Road

On a highway from New York to Washington D.C., the roads were bustling, packed with a sea of vehicle headlights and taillights.

In the evenly flowing traffic, many drivers were calmly moving forward when suddenly, a van weaved in and out, speeding past their cars and giving them a good scare.

"Fu-k!"

"What the hell?"

"Jesus!"

The van that disappeared in the blink of an eye, leaving behind only its taillights, provoked shock and curses from the surrounding drivers.

Many hot-tempered guys wished they could chase after it immediately, to ask what was the rush driving that fast; were they in a hurry to meet God?

With heavy traffic currently, although the drivers were irate, very few actually set out in pursuit of the van.

But a few hotheads secretly pulled out guns from under their seats, ready to gift the van with a few "presents" should they encounter it again.

After uttering a few choice words about the van driver, the drivers continued on when suddenly, they saw from their rearview mirrors—four SUVs charging forward at high speed!

Swoosh—

Buzz—

The four SUVs drove in a single file, quickly weaving through the traffic, giving the drivers another fright in just a few seconds.

"Damn it!"

"Son of a bitch!"

While cursing, the drivers secretly abandoned any thoughts of racing or chasing after them to deliver those "presents."

It was clear that these four SUVs were in pursuit of that earlier van and although unaware of the specifics, living in the States taught everyone the good practice of not asking too many questions.

However, many drivers were still very curious to know what the van driver had done, admiring their driving skills while also despising the SUV drivers; four SUVs and they still couldn't catch up to a single van.

"Are you kidding me?"

Meanwhile, in the leading SUV, a man with a hawk nose sat in the passenger seat, his eyes wide with shock as the distance to the van not only failed to close but even grew wider.

The driver, forehead slick with sweat and face as if having seen a ghost, quickly said:

"Captain, our SUVs are too wide! It's hard to overtake!"

Their SUVs, at about 1.8 meters wide compared to the 1.5-meter width of the van, were indeed much wider and consequently harder to overtake with.

The hawk-nosed man knew this, which is why he didn't berate the driver, but there was another thing he couldn't comprehend:

"How is that guy driving a van so damn fast?!"

Elsewhere, inside the van, Reesi at the passenger seat, Mona and Chenier in the backseat, were already accustomed to Luo An's driving and simply fastened their seat belts silently.

The truck driver continued to slumber soundly, even snoring lightly.

Francisco, looking at the quickly receding world outside the window along with the van's daring overtaking maneuvers, was pale with fear, and his legs shook:

"Group Leader Luo An, can you slow down a bit?"

"Don't worry, trust my driving skills."

Luo An chuckled and threw a reassuring glance at Francisco through the rearview mirror.

Just as Francisco was about to speak, Luo An overtook a big truck and added:

"Plus, with so many people in the car, if we really flip, you wouldn't be the only one injured. What are you scared of?"

"..."

Francisco's lips quivered silently as Luo An ignored him and turned to Reesi at the passenger seat, asking:

"Send a message to Vireness, ask when her people are arriving."

After pressing her phone a few times, Reesi quickly replied:

"She says they'll need ten more minutes!"

"OK."

Luo An nodded, and the others in the car let out a slight sigh of relief.

Just then, Luo An suddenly noticed that the speed of the vehicles ahead on the road was decreasing considerably. He frowned slightly and immediately asked:

"Mona, can you check what happened on the road ahead? An accident or something else?"

"It's a spot check!"

Mona whipped out her laptop, fingers dancing rapidly across the keyboard, and swiftly determined the specifics, lifting her head to announce loudly:

"A minute ago, the police in Washington D.C. just set up a temporary checkpoint!"

Chenier quickly caught on, speaking anxiously:

"It's probably those USSS guys looking for us! The destination is to cut us off!"

The police's timing was too coincidental for Chenier to not think in this direction.

Mona and Reesi also caught on, seeing the cars ahead slowing down and the road nearly impossible to overtake in between, they were suddenly very anxious. Reesi quickly asked:

"What do we do?"

Because the cars in front were gradually stopping and the van was slowing down, Luo An narrowed his eyes slightly, glanced at the trailing SUVs whose exhaust smoke they were no longer eating, and quickly made a decision:

"Get out! We're going to the checkpoint!"

"What?"

The women were extremely surprised; without further explanation, Luo An parked the van on the side of the road, got out, opened the rear door, hoisted up the truck driver, and strode off into the distance.

Mona, Reesi, and Chenier, faces full of confusion, still escorted Francisco, and quickened their pace to follow.

Not far along, they saw the temporary checkpoint; Luo An dropped the truck driver to the ground, signaled for Mona and the others to wait there, and approached the checkpoint alone.

"Hello there, FBI."

Luo An took out his golden FBI badge to identify himself:

"Why set up a checkpoint so suddenly?"

A police chief nearby came over, extending his hand to Luo An, and introduced himself:

"My name is Roland."

"Luo An Greenwood."

Luo An shook hands with him, and after they briefly introduced themselves, Chief Roland answered:

"We just got notice that there are suspicious individuals in the area, and we need to check it out."

Luo An's eyes shifted slightly; he didn't dwell on the topic, and after exchanging a few pleasantries, he said:

"Me and my team are on a mission and need to borrow one of your police cars temporarily."

Luo An expressed that he would explain the situation later to Roland's superiors, checked Luo An's golden FBI badge, and compared the identification number on the badge; once Roland was certain of Luo An's identity, he nodded and agreed.

Luo An thanked him again, turned, and returned to a nearby car, lifting the truck driver and leading Mona and the other women out.

The three women, pressing down Francisco, got into a police car, while the truck driver was stuffed into the trunk in front of an astonished Chief Roland.

"..."

Nodding gratefully at Chief Roland, Luo An got into the driver's seat and drove the police car swiftly away from the area.

Looking at the shrinking checkpoint behind them, Reesi and Mona were still baffled, Francisco in shock, Reesi asked uncertainly:

"Luo An, do you know that policeman?"

"No, we met for the first time."

Luo An cracked a smile, explaining that he had just thought from another perspective; the Special Service Bureau did not want to make a big fuss, so they likely just intended to use the police to stop them, not actually to assist in apprehension.

Under these circumstances, the Special Service Bureau's people would not clarify the identity of Luo An and others as part of the FBI; the police would probably only know about suspicious individuals, at most aware of a suspicious van.

Thus, Luo An decided to leave the van and go on foot to the checkpoint to identify himself to the police and borrow a police car in a straightforward manner.

With Luo An's credentials and identity clear, the metropolitan police were likely willing to do him the favor of lending a vehicle.

When the Special Service Bureau personnel arrived at the checkpoint, they would be infuriated and want to scold someone, but they couldn't blame the police because they hadn't disclosed the identities of Luo An and his team before.

Reesi and Mona, full of admiration, Chenier clapping repeatedly, Francisco dumbfounded—the facts proved Luo An's deduction was spot on.

Turning on the police car's red and blue lights and the siren, vehicles and pedestrians on the road ahead promptly made way.

Luo An rolled down the window, his hair slightly tousled by the wind, the corners of his mouth lifted, and he spoke lightly:

"Reesi, get in touch with Vireness and have her call the people back.

Thanks to the Special Service Bureau's aid, we're likely to arrive ahead of schedule."
