Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 603: The Boss Bargains, Investigating Clues

New York, 11:30 AM, an office, interrogation room.

"I know the identity of the serial killer."

Toby Henderson looked up at Luo An with a smile and made his demand:

"Grant me immunity, and I'll tell you who the guy is."

Hearing Toby Henderson's request, Chenier's face looked unpleasant.

The serial killings targeting street workers, Team 13 had been investigating for a long time. Now, although some suspects have been identified, some matters have not been fully clarified.

Luo An's expression remained unchanged, still sitting at the interrogation table, looking down at Toby Henderson, calmly asked a question:

"How can I judge whether what you say is true or false?

If you just randomly mention a name, wouldn't I be at a loss?"

This made Toby Henderson frown:

"What do you suggest?"

Luo An asked:

"You say you know who the serial killer is, do you have evidence to prove that the person committed the murders?"

"That's the FBI's job, I'm not FBI."

Toby Henderson spread his hands:

"One time while driving to the beach, I happened to see a person driving with a heavily made-up woman.

Not long after, the woman died, and I learned about her professional identity, so I know who that person is."

Luo An shook his head:

"So, you didn't witness the suspect killing the person firsthand, and you don't have evidence, just suspicions.

In this situation, it's hard for me to believe you, Mr. Henderson."

Toby Henderson's expression shifted, finally he reclined in his chair and asked:

"Anyway, I know the guy's identity and name, do you want it or not?"

"If this information is real, I definitely want it."

Luo An smiled and said:

"But what if the information is fake?"

"If the information is fake, then I ..."

Toby Henderson paused mid-sentence, frowning slightly, as if something was not right.

"Here's the deal."

Seeing the other party stop speaking, Luo An's eyes twinkled and he made his suggestion:

"You start by telling us the person's name, we'll check their suspicions.

If the person indeed turns out to be the serial killer of that case, we will come back and thank you."

"Do you think I'm an idiot, Group Leader Greenwood?"

Toby Henderson gave a cold laugh and responded:

"You don't trust me, and I don't trust you.

If I reveal the person's name, and you follow this lead to catch the killer, but then you turn around and deny that I helped you, what will I do?"

"We at the FBI play by the rules, you have to trust us."

Luo An shook his head repeatedly and said:

"I said I would thank you, and I definitely will thank you, I won't deceive you."

Toby Henderson reiterated his initial request:

"No, you have to give me an immunity agreement first."

"You start by telling us the person's name."

"..."x2

Luo An and Toby Henderson just quietly looked at each other without speaking, silence filled the interrogation room.

After pausing for a few seconds, Luo An stood up and gestured to Chenier:

"Let's go out, and let Mr. Henderson think over my proposal for a moment."

Chenier stood up and walked out of the interrogation room with Luo An. The moment the door closed, Chenier immediately leaned close to Luo An and asked softly:

"If Toby Henderson really reveals the name of the killer later, are we really going to offer him an immunity agreement?"

Luo An glanced at Chenier:

"What are you joking about?"

Chenier was taken aback:

"But you just said you wanted to thank him."

"Thanking him doesn't mean giving him a deal. Just saying 'thank you' is enough."

Luo An crossed his arms in front of his chest, calmly speaking:

"Toby Henderson has been working in the 'organization' for so many years, being the leader of the management members, it's impossible that he hasn't killed anyone, we just haven't found specific evidence yet.

Prison is where these people belong, that little box is his permanent home, there's no way he's getting a deal of exoneration."

Chenier fully agreed with Luo An's latter statement, and then asked:

"But what about the serial killer?"

"We definitely need to find the assassin, but we don't necessarily have to look for clues from Toby Henderson."

Luo An patted Chenier on the shoulder, she's been focusing too much on the assassin's issue, her mind hasn't turned the corner yet, subconsciously ignoring a lot of things.

Without explaining much further, Luo An walked towards the office area and asked:

"Reesi, those initiation videos recorded by Toby Henderson before the members joined the 'organization', where are they?"

"In that big cardboard box next to you, it's all tapes."

Reesi pointed to a large cardboard box on another office desk not far away and asked:

"What's happening?"

Luo An briefly explained the situation that Toby Henderson had described earlier, then continued:

"Toby Henderson said he was driving to the beach and crossed paths with a person who was in a car with a woman.

We can't be sure now if that person is really the assassin, but he is highly suspicious.

What we need to do now is to find out the specific time Toby Henderson went to the beach, and then compare and check the whereabouts of the dozen suspects Mona found before, during that period, to see if there's any coincidence in their routes or timing."

Snap—

"Exactly!"

Winslow and Mona's eyes lit up upon hearing this, Reesi clapped her hands with excitement saying:

"As long as someone's route or timing matches, he is very likely to be the serial killer!"

Chenier suddenly had a moment of realization, and instantly understood the logic of the matter.

Looking admiringly at Luo An, she quickly, like everyone else, walked over, picked up a tape, and started watching it in her seat.

The video footage in the tape was somewhat brutal, all scenes of someone kneeling and struggling while another person stood behind with a pistol, pulling the trigger to end their life.

Temporarily ignoring the content of the videos, all agents focused on the bottom left corner of the video recordings.

The recording equipment Toby Henderson used was quite old and the quality couldn't even reach the clarity of 720p, but they all had automatic displays of time and date.

Luo An, Mona, Winslow, Reesi and Chenier each took responsibility for several tapes, and quickly recorded down all the dates of the murder videos.

After a brief organization, the dates of these murder videos were gathered on one piece of paper, Luo An gave it to Mona:

"Next, it's up to you."

"No problem!"

Mona grinned, swayed the "OK" gesture in her hand towards Luo An, tapped a few times on the keyboard, and pulled up the photos of the 14 male suspects she had previously found.

The next step in the job was to individually compare where these 14 men were during the incident, what they were doing, and who was around them.

Since there were quite a few details to compare, Chenier and Reesi joined Mona's team to help.

Time ticked away, and in the blink of an eye, more than two hours had passed, during which Toby Henderson still insisted on asking Luo An for an exoneration deal, and so he was taken back to the temporary detention prison by Winslow.

Another three hours later, at more than five in the afternoon, Mona and the others finally completed the checking work.

"We have almost finished checking, but there's a problem."

Biting into a gravy-covered steak that Luo An brought back, Mona spoke while eating:

"These videos, many were taken seven or eight years ago, even more than ten years ago, it's been too long.

The 14 suspects I found before have different family backgrounds.

Ten years ago, some of them were still in university, some had just dropped out to start working, and some had been struggling in society for several years.

Many of their travel trajectories, work records, and behaviors during this time are untraceable."

Chenier nodded, Reesi looked at Luo An who was examining the results nearby, chewing the steak in her mouth, and asked:

"Should we conduct an on-site visit for an investigation? We are sure to find out something."

"No need."

Looking at the information on the computer, Luo An's eyes slightly narrowed:

"I think I've already found that guy who likes to target form workers."
