Living with the Arrogant Queen from High School is Surprisingly Not Uncomfortable

Chapter 48

Hayashi asked me to do something outrageous – talk to a guy from my major. Honestly, I’ve rarely lamented about not having friends throughout my life, and certainly not at this point in time.

Well, I somewhat understand her feelings.

I’ve given her a sense of indebtedness by protecting her from her ex-boyfriend, helping her during her visit home, and so on over the past month.

She probably wants to repay that favor.

We both acknowledge that I don’t have friends, so she probably thinks she should help me solve that problem. What a Hayashi-like, motherly way of thinking.

But what should I do about Hayashi’s motherly idea?

…Honestly.

If I’m being honest…

…I absolutely hate it.

Talking to a guy from my major. Guys from my major… they’re those noisy guys during lectures, right? I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve wanted them to quiet down and study. Why do I have to become friends with them now?

Well, there are a few who aren’t noisy… but they’re just messing with their smartphones under the table or on top of it. There are also those who are gaming instead.

…Wait a minute. Isn’t it too much to expect from guys in my major who seem to have no redeeming qualities?

Well, they’ve recently started enjoying university life after leaving home. But I think they’re getting out of control too soon after the summer break, fellow students.

“Damn it, what should I do?”

On the way to the university, I was gritting my teeth.

At this rate… my cleaning supplies will be sold. To Hayashi, they’re probably just junk.

But.

But…!

To me, they’re like my own children.

The thought of selling such precious things feels like being cuckolded. It would break my mind. That’s why it’s absolutely no good!

But then, what should I do?

Hayashi said I should just talk to a guy.

But I think…

Even if I talk to them and deceive them… wouldn’t that be okay?

I hate lying.

Throughout my life, I’ve told so few lies, that excluding the game of “Doubt,” I could count them on one hand.

I hope you can grasp how serious this situation is when I, who hates lies, am seriously considering lying.

…Well, Hayashi’s right.

It’s a simple matter.

Hayashi didn’t demand me to have a certain conversation with a guy. She didn’t even tell me to make sure to make friends and come home.

She just told me to talk.

That is indeed, not a particularly difficult request.

…But I don’t want a friend right now. That’s the truth.

Even though I was internally cursing at the guys in my major earlier, that’s not the only reason I don’t want friends.

I prefer being alone rather than being with others.

Watching TV alone, reading a book alone, cleaning. Cleaning.

I like spending time that way.

I don’t want to change that lifestyle now. That’s why I don’t want a friend right now.

…It can’t be helped.

When I get home today, I’ll tell Hayashi.

I don’t want a friend right now. That’s why I didn’t fulfill your request, your wish today.

If you want to sell the cleaning supplies, go ahead. But in the end… in the end, let me take a picture of them.

I will beg, even grovel, for just that.

I finally arrived at the university, and even though the lectures were about to start, I was in a blue mood.

After crossing several research buildings, I entered the building where the first period lecture was held and headed to the lecture room.

And then it happened.

A miracle happened to me.

“Ah, um… Yamagiwa-kun?”

As soon as I entered the lecture room, a guy stopped another guy named Yamagiwa. I knew the face of the guy who stopped him. He was one of the noisy guys during lectures that I was cursing at internally earlier.

I felt a little sorry for Yamagiwa being suddenly called out by such a guy.

But I soon noticed something odd.

The guy had been standing in front of me without moving.

I took off my earphones.

…I don’t recognize the name Yamagiwa.

“Are you talking to me?”

Just thinking that there’s no way he’s calling me, I said that.

“Yes, yes.”

“My name is Yamamoto.”

“Ah, sorry. Yamamoto-kun.”

His voice was light, showing no hint of apology.

But soon, I realized. The brown-haired guy… a guy from my major, was talking to me.

This meant I had completed Hayashi’s mission.

“Thank you.”

“Huh, for what?”

“Thanks to you, I was able to protect something more important than my life.”

“Heh, that’s impressive!”

I nodded with a smile.

Yes, yes. Isn’t that impressive?

“So, Yamamoto-kun, would you listen to a request of mine?”

“Oh, of course. We help each other in times of trouble.”

“Wow, Yamamoto-kun, you’re so nice! So, I’ll need your help tonight.”

“Leave it to me.”

“It’s a mixer.”

“Ah, understood.”

There was a moment of silence.

“What!?”

I raised my voice.

“Everyone, Yamamoto-kun is okay with it!”

“Really!?”

“Yamamoto-senpai is awesome!”

Wait, wait, wait.

Right now… I’m thinking that a lover is even less necessary than friends.

And I’m going to a mixer?

No, that’s troublesome!

…Ah, but maybe.

I’m just a filler.

…If that’s the case…

Well, I can’t help it… right?

Considering the atmosphere, where it was no longer possible to refuse, I let out a big sigh.

Before the lecture began, I sent a message to Hayashi.

“I’ve already talked to a guy.”

“Wow, how much do you not want your cleaning supplies thrown away?”

“And, I’ve made plans for tonight.”

“Going somewhere?”

“A mixer.”

After sending the message, I wondered if it was okay to tell Hayashi that I was going to a mixer.

There was no response from Hayashi.
