Chapter 28: The game of death has begun.
Gangdong District's Gangdong High School is the largest school in the city. It usually has around 100 to 200 students present at any given time, creating a lively and noisy atmosphere.
But today, only three sounds can be heard:
1. The patter of raindrops.
2. The impact of fists.
3. The sharp slash of a sword.
Following the sounds, one would find the streets littered with shredded flesh and dismembered body parts. The grand halls, once neatly arranged with benches, are now in ruins-some areas even revealing severed limbs, and in some cases, entire bodies lying lifeless.
Amidst this carnage, two young men stand facing each other, their gazes filled with murderous intent. Both of their bodies bear severe wounds-injuries that would have already incapacitated an ordinary person.
"What is your sword made of? It can even cut through my black bones."
Daegun stared at his palm, drenched in his own blood, with a deep gash from the sword's edge. His expression turned serious as he questioned his opponent.
"First, tell me what do you eat? I've never seen anything this tough, something my sword can't fully cut through."
Gu deflected the question, gripping his sword tightly. Despite his calm demeanor, he could feel five ribs beneath his chest were broken from their last exchange.
Analyzing the situation, Gu thought to himself: "If this continues, one of us will die today. I should stop targeting his bones and aim for his heart or another vital organ. If I can kill him, I'll demand ten times more money from that old man... Hihihi..."
Daegun watched Gu laugh and began analyzing the situation. I need to be careful. By now, Gu must have realized that he can strike through the gaps in my bones.
With that thought, Daegun quickly scanned his surroundings, hoping to find a weapon. But luck wasn't on his side-there was nothing around that could stop Gu's massive sword. Left with no other choice, he instinctively shifted back into Beast Combat Martial Art stance.
This entire thought process took less than a second. Both fighters lunged at each other again.
Daegun weaved through Gu Kim's sword attacks using a boxing-style dodge, while Gu Kim's speed was exceptional-his unique footwork allowed him to evade swiftly. Their movements were so intense that the last standing wall in the area finally crumbled to the ground.
After a brief exchange of blows, frustration boiled within Daegun. Damn it... I'm getting angrier. I can't land a solid hit on him!
By now, the fight had shifted to a 70-30 balance, but Daegun was the one at 30. Out of ten strikes, only three landed for him, while Gu's attacks connected seven out of ten times. /have no choice... I need to use it.
[Host, do you wish to activate that ability? Be warned-it may cause you to lose consciousness and lead to mass slaughter on the streets.]
Daegun smirked. "What do you think this is, some battlefield ruled by a general? Even if bodies pile up in the streets, no one will care. Now, activate Black Lock, or I'll die right here!"
Without hesitation, he commanded the system to activate Black Lock.
[Host, Black Lock has been activated. Your consciousness will temporarily shut down, allowing your body to fight using its full potential.]
A wicked grin spread across Daegun's face.
"Heh... Gu Kim, today, I'll make you my little brother-no doubt about it."
As his mind slowly faded into darkness, he prepared for the oncoming storm.
But then, a sudden realization struck him like a thunderbolt. The moment he heard the system's next message, his smirk vanished.
[However, due to the injuries inflicted by Tom Lee, your internal organs have suffered severe damage. As a result, your physical strength has decreased by 20-35%. Additionally, the injuries from Gu Kim's attacks will further reduce your strength by another 10%. Do not worry-if you show signs of death, I will forcibly restore your consciousness.]
Daegun clenched his teeth in rage. Damn you, old man Tom Lee... I'll never forgive you...!
The moment Daegun realized that all his struggles were thanks to Tom Lee's "generosity," rage filled his heart. He cursed Tom in frustration-before his consciousness faded into darkness.
Elsewhere...
A damaged Rolls-Royce cruised through the streets. Its battered exterior, covered in dents and rust, suggested that it hadn't been repaired for a long time.
The car came to a stop in front of a half-destroyed school-its front section barely standing while the back had completely collapsed.
Three men stepped out of the car.
• The first was Manager Kim from White Tiger Job Center.
• The second was none other than White Tiger Job Center's President, Mr. Tom Lee.
• And the third was his assistant, Yeongcheol Kim.
Yeongcheol glanced around at the ruined school and muttered, "Boss, I think we're a bit late. Looks like Gu Kim got here before us."
Tom Lee's face twitched in irritation.
"You should've fixed your damn car first! It's because of this piece of junk that we got delayed!" Tom growled, pointing an accusing finger at Yeongcheol.
But Yeongcheol, ever the sly one, smirked.
"Boss, you're the one who insists that White Tiger Job Center never does anything without money. And, if I recall, this 'piece of junk' is owned by your White Tiger Job Center."
Tom Lee's veins bulged in anger. Just as he was about to explode, Manager Kim suddenly cut in.
Tom shot him a glare. "Manager Kim, this is between me and Yeongcheol. Stay out of it."
But before Manager Kim could respond, his eyes sharpened as he sensed something. "Boss... something's coming. Fast."
The moment he said that, the last remaining wall of the ruined school collapsed, sending something flying toward them.
Tom instinctively turned to look-and the very next second, a severed lower half of a body came hurling straight at his face.
The impact was so sudden that no one had time to react.
SPLAT.
The half-torn buttocks slammed into Tom's face before flopping onto the ground.
Tom, unfazed, stood still-but his face twisted in rage. "Who the hell just threw a damn severed ass at me?!"
Before he could get an answer, a massive figure -7.2 feet tall-crashed into the ground, sending dust and debris flying.
And then-the unstable remains of the wall collapsed right on top of him.
From behind the wreckage, Gu Kim emerged, his sword stabbed into the ground as he leaned against its handle, panting heavily. The rain washed away the blood on his body, but his torn clothing and broken arm made it clear-he had barely survived.
At that moment, Manager Kim's expression shifted. He rushed toward the rubble and started digging through the debris.
Tom Lee and Yeongcheol Kim followed him and peered inside.
"That kid... he called himself Daegun Park, right? If I hadn't cheated, I'd be dead by now."
Meanwhile, Manager Kim finally managed to pull Daegun out of the debris.
He shook him gently, calling out in a firm voice.
"Kid! Daegun! Are you okay? Can you hear me? Hey, Daegun!"
This kid won't die so easily.
Tom Lee, who had initially looked somewhat concerned, now spoke in a completely relaxed tone. "Kim, call that bull-headed friend of yours and tell him to bring that old doctor here."
"Understood, boss. Give me a moment." Manager Kim nodded and pulled out his phone.
Yeongcheol Kim, however, narrowed his eyes and turned toward Tom. "So, boss, what do we do with this kid? He's the root of all our problems. Because of him, we're in this mess."
Tom smirked and stretched lazily. "Bring him along. Someone's gotta pay for the broken wall and the fuel for our wreck of a car, hehehe."
His laughter was crude, and as he chuckled, drool dripped from the corner of his mouth. His eyes gleamed in amusement.
Gu Kim, still leaning on his sword, stiffened. The way these two old men were looking at him sent a chill down his spine.
"Oi, old men... you're not thinking of anything weird, are you?" Gu Kim cautiously took a step back, eyeing them with suspicion.
[Author's Note: Don't worry, guys! In the next chapter, we'll explain how Gu Kim managed to defeat Daegun.]
