Lord of Mysteries: The Dream That Waits

Chapter 10: Interlude: A Silence Too Deep

Here's an interlude before we continue Klein and Yeaia's escape. This will be from Justice, Audrey Hall's perspective—someone sensitive to mental and spiritual anomalies.

---

Audrey Hall always prided herself on being observant.

As a Sequence 3: Dream Weaver of the Visionary Pathway, her ability to perceive thoughts, emotions, and subconscious shifts in reality was nearly unparalleled.

She could sense a person's fears before they spoke.

She could hear the whispers of fate before they unfolded.

She could touch the edges of thoughts before even their owners were aware of them.

And yet—

Tonight, as she sat in her study, surrounded by warm candlelight and the soft hum of Backlund's night, she felt it.

A presence that was not a presence.

An absence that was too deep.

---

The Thought That Was Not There

It started subtly.

A conversation with her maid—words flowing effortlessly, pleasantries exchanged.

And yet, in the middle of speaking—her mind went blank.

Not the kind of forgetfulness that came from distraction. Not a loss of concentration.

No.

It was as if a thought had been erased before it could form.

She blinked, startled.

"Lady Audrey?" Her maid tilted her head, looking concerned.

Audrey smiled politely, masking her unease. "It's nothing."

But the feeling remained.

A gap in her awareness.

A silence in her thoughts where something should have been.

---

"Something Is Missing."

Audrey finished her tea and retreated to her study.

She closed her eyes.

Reaching deep into her Mind Corridor, she let her thoughts expand.

The whispers of Backlund, the emotions of the people, the undercurrent of fate—it all flowed through her mind like a vast ocean.

And yet—

There was a blank space.

Not something hidden. Not something veiled.

But something removed.

Her brows furrowed.

This was not normal.

It wasn't secrecy. It wasn't a distortion of perception.

It was a pure, clean absence.

And it was growing.

Audrey opened her eyes, heart pounding slightly.

Whatever this was—it was unnatural.

It was not a trick of the mind. It was not something any Beyonder of the Visionary or Seer pathways could achieve.

This was something deeper.

Something wrong.

Her first instinct?

Contact Mr. Fool.

But before she could even reach out—

She forgot why she wanted to.
