Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Five Pages of Roselle's Diary
In the intelligence Odis provided to everyone, he explained in detail what Beyonder characteristics were and briefly mentioned the Law of the Conservation of Beyonder Characteristics and the Law of Beyonder Characteristics Convergence...
This immediately made Xio feel that her money had been well spent. This was clearly high-level intelligence, yet here, it could be obtained for just over twenty pounds.
What she didn't know was that her good friend, Fors, had just learned this information at the Tarot Club and was racking her brains trying to figure out how to naturally pass it on to her.
In the living room, the members who had just acquired this intelligence fell silent for a moment as they quickly realized one thing... Beyonders were walking sacks of gold.
According to the Leader's information, Beyonder characteristics were extremely valuable and could even replace the main ingredients of potions. This meant that even if two Beyonders had no prior enmity, if one coveted the other's characteristics, a life-and-death struggle could easily erupt.
Almost immediately, they grew wary of those around them. But then they remembered that this gathering was relatively trustworthy, which eased their minds slightly.
Soon, they began to suspect the few Beyonders they usually interacted with, only to relax again, since very few people knew this knowledge.
By learning it first, they had gained a significant advantage...
While this transaction was taking place, other intelligence exchanges continued.
One piece of information caught Odis's attention... A wealthy merchant in Backlund named Blair had posted a highly lucrative mission... To ride in a carriage he provided and wander the streets of Backlund on the night of a full moon.
The merchant claimed it was a whim, an experiment to see if supernatural encounters were more likely during a full moon.
This mission could only be undertaken by Beyonders, which disappointed many members who had hoped to earn the money.
On the surface, it seemed like a wealthy merchant frivolously spending his money on a ridiculous experiment. But with his extensive intelligence experience, Odis immediately sensed something unusual and speculated that it might be related to the 'Rose School of Thought'.
The specific condition of a full moon brought to mind 'Werewolves' and 'Vampires'.
However, Odis also recalled that Sharron and Klein had recently clashed with the 'Indulgence Faction' of the 'Rose School of Thought'. Sharron and Maric were likely in hiding now, and the full moon might be the only time clues about them could surface.
After all, there was only one 'Scarlet Lunar Corona'. If Sharron wasn't using it, Maric would be. And during the full moon, one of them would be extremely weak, possibly causing strange phenomena around their hiding place.
Odis showed no outward interest in the matter, but internally, he had already decided to head straight to the Backlund Institute for Mechanical Research afterward and report this intelligence along with his suspicions to Max...
After another half-hour of trading, most of the members had exchanged and discussed their intelligence.
As the gathering neared its end, 'Giraffe' announced that he had acquired some notes of Emperor Roselle and wished to sell them to the 'Leader'.
Odis picked up the notes and quickly sorted through them. There were 18 pages in total, all slightly yellowed with age.
He set aside nine of them and said, "These symbols match the notes displayed at the memorial exhibition. They're forgeries."
What he collected were 'relics of Emperor Roselle', not copied reproductions.
Then he separated another four pages, "The paper on these four is problematic. Also fakes."
In reality, the sentences were nonsensical. It was clear that they were fabricated.
Giraffe sighed in admiration, "I didn't expect you to have such expertise in antiques as well."
Odis smiled, "I'll take these five pages. Ten pounds per page."
This was indeed a generous offer. Typically, a handwritten copy of Roselle's notes could sell for one or two pounds, while authentic pages ranged from five to eight pounds.
But to maintain the appearance of paying a premium, Odis offered a bit more... after all, it wasn't his money.
Later, another member brought forward more relics of Roselle for trade. Since Odis wasn't running an antique business, he couldn't authenticate them through conventional means.
Instead, he resorted to divination...
At the 'Mystery Pryer' stage, Odis's Astrolabe Divination yielded results comparable to those of a 'Seer'.
But this was limited to Astrolabe Divination. Without ritual assistance, other forms of divination were far less accurate than a 'Seer's'.
After advancing to 'Melee Scholar', Odis's divination abilities improved slightly. To be precise, it wasn't the divination itself that improved, but his enhanced Spirituality, which made the results slightly more reliable.
For overly complex divinations, the outcomes remained vague, but distinguishing authenticity was still manageable.
From the pile of 'relics', Odis spent only 80 pounds to acquire a fountain pen allegedly used by Emperor Roselle.
The pen had an Intis-style engraving on its cap and, surprisingly, remained functional even after over a century.
Once he confirmed no more genuine items were left, he announced the end of the gathering...
...
He returned to the basement of Unit 77 Hilton Avenue, south of Green Park...
Removing his mask and cloak, he transformed back into Odis, the herbal shop owner.
This time, he simply hailed a carriage and headed straight for the Backlund Institute for Mechanical Research.
On the way, he took out the five pages of of Roselle's Diary and began reading:
<...May 12th
Today, I discussed with Bishop Van Estin the question of what the 'Savant' Pathway truly represents. Only after our conversation did I realize how much it helped my acting.
Each Pathway seems to have a core meaning. No matter the Sequence, the acting must not stray too far from this central theme...>
<...Take the 'Savant' Pathway for example... 'Savants' exhibit enhanced abilities in learning, comprehension, and practical application, recalling all previously encountered knowledge-based information.
Sequence 8 'Archaeologist', similarly uses one's learning to draw conclusions...>
<...Further along, though the professions differ, the qualitative changes brought by the potion all seem to strengthen learning and the application of knowledge, especially the latter, giving me exceptional hands-on capabilities, which is the key difference from the 'Reader' Pathway...>
<...So what about other Pathways? Do they also have such core meanings?
For instance, is the essence of the 'Mystery Pryer' Pathway Knowledge itself? If so, then all acting must revolve around the concept of Knowledge.
And the 'Hunter' Pathway? Does it revolve around being a 'steel-hard man'? Hahaha, this reminds me of that idiot Floren again...>
After finishing this page, Odis vaguely recalled that Floren was a member of the Sauron family, which controlled the 'Hunter' Pathway.
One of his ancestors was suspected to have been female before advancing to Sequence 4 and becoming an iron-blooded true man. Roselle had often mocked this noble over it...
Odis nodded slowly to himself, 'So even Roselle occasionally pondered profound topics, huh...'
For example, this diary entry served as a reminder that even as a 'Melee Scholar', his acting must not stray from the core concept of Knowledge.
