Lord: Sequence Master

Chapter 243: Hunting Canyon and the Hunter True God

The Sagittarius Continent, home of the Sagittarius Empire.

Nearly 90% of the extraordinary individuals in the Sagittarius Empire are Hunters. The reason is simple: this land is uniquely suited for the development of the Hunter sequence.

The Sagittarius Continent was once the domain where an alien Hunter True God who wielded the Law of Hunting fell. Although the remnants of that True God's divine kingdom have since been relocated, traces of divine blood and residual laws from the divine kingdom remain scattered throughout the region. These remnants make the Sagittarius Continent a sacred ground for the Hunter sequence, filled with spiritual realms linked to hunting authority. Here, one's progression in the Hunter sequence is naturally accelerated.

At the edge of Hunting Canyon stands Eagle Eye City, perched atop a cliff like the piercing gaze of a hawk overlooking the vast canyon below.

The Sagittarius Continent is divided by the massive Hunting Mountain Range, which spans the land from end to end. Due to the towering height of the range, the ash that blankets much of the world is sparse here, allowing countless extraordinary lifeforms to thrive in the mountains. However, the resources within the range are limited, and only a finite number of extraordinary lifeforms can survive.

Every year, as resources grow scarce, weaker extraordinary lifeforms are driven out of the mountains. Afraid to venture into the ash-covered lands beyond, they follow the mountain range toward its center, ultimately converging in the only passable area—the Hunting Canyon. Here, these displaced lifeforms create massive beast tides.

This is the common understanding.

However, through the Spirit Web, Rosen knows there's more to the Hunting Canyon.

Hunting Canyon was once the crash site of a divine kingdom. Though the remnants of the kingdom have been removed, some of the True God's divine blood and the residual laws of the divine kingdom remain in this canyon, which was carved out when the kingdom fell.

The mysterious spiritual realm Rosen seeks is hidden within Hunting Canyon.

To this day, no one knows its exact location or specific details. Even a True God who spent years searching for the realm failed to fully claim it.

The only way to enter this spiritual realm is for a Hunter to single-handedly kill 1,000 extraordinary lifeforms of the same tier within Hunting Canyon.

The conditions are so demanding that most who enter the realm are capped at Sequence 4, as Sequence 4 extraordinary lifeforms are at least somewhat easier to find. For Sequence 3, hunting 1,000 extraordinary lifeforms is almost impossible.

The Sagittarius Empire once mobilized its entire nation to release 1,000 half-divine extraordinary creatures into Hunting Canyon, recruiting a Sequence 3 Hunter with a forbidden-level physique to hunt them. Even so, the spiritual realm remained unclaimed.

Rosen released tens of thousands of shadow demons to scout Hunting Canyon's extraordinary lifeforms.

They discovered only a few hundred Sequence 4 creatures. It was clear that completing the hunt in one attempt was impossible. Many Hunters already know about this spiritual realm, and these Sequence 4 extraordinary lifeforms are fiercely contested targets.

Without cheating, earning the right to enter this realm could take decades, even centuries.

Rosen wasn't interested in waiting that long. Instead, he sent his shadow demons to nearby mountains to capture Sequence 4 extraordinary lifeforms and transport them to the canyon.

Several days later, Rosen arrived at a rocky forest within Hunting Canyon.

Hunting Canyon stretches tens of thousands of miles wide and hundreds of thousands of miles long, but not all areas are rich in extraordinary resources.

This particular stone forest is barren, devoid of resources, and therefore avoided by both extraordinary lifeforms and Hunters.

Rosen didn't choose this place for its emptiness but because his Miracle Pouch had guided him here.

Considering that a divine kingdom once fell here, it was likely that numerous treasures had been left behind. While many have been discovered over the past two millennia, some still remain. Upon entering Hunting Canyon, Rosen activated the treasure-seeking ability of the Miracle Pouch, which led him here.

However, the Miracle Pouch didn't mark an exact location, nor did it generate a treasure map. This indicated that the treasure was either claimed or of such a high level that it bypassed the pouch's detection threshold.

This meant the stone forest likely hid an extraordinary lifeform that was difficult to detect.

Rosen teleported to the center of the stone forest using Void Blink. With a thought, he expanded his World Domain, enveloping the stone forest for several miles in all directions.

In that instant, one of the fallen stone pillars exploded.

From the smoke and dust emerged a creature resembling a pangolin, its body covered in golden stripes. This Sequence 4 extraordinary lifeform burrowed into the ground, effortlessly tunneling through earth and stone as if it were swimming through water.

But it didn't get far before it reached a dead end. The World Domain, constructed using the authorities of Time and Space, was a spherical barrier that extended underground, sealing every possible exit.

"A mutated Earth-Burrowing Armored Beast?"

Rosen recalled the unique traits of this species and decided to spare it.

The Earth-Burrowing Armored Beast is an excellent digging creature and a valuable pet for farmers. Mutated variants can even manipulate aspects of the Earth Authority and have a natural potential to reach Sequence 3, enhancing the fertility of farmland.

Sharon Reddy was on the verge of advancing to Sequence 3 as a Farmer. With this creature, her progress would undoubtedly accelerate. Once she became the chairwoman of the Glory Foundation, Rosen would have full control over the organization.

Daisy currently controlled the Glory Foundation to secure resources for her advancement to Sequence 3. Now that she had reached Sequence 3, the organization was merely a source of income for spirit crystals. Having Sharon take over would benefit both parties.

Rosen released Nightmare Shackles and temporarily embedded the Wolf Totem, a miracle artifact, into the Nightmare Shackles.

With the Wolf Totem's concealment ability transferred to the Nightmare Shackles, the Earth-Burrowing Armored Beast didn't realize what was happening until it was completely bound, head to toe. At that moment, it began struggling desperately.

However, Rosen had augmented the Nightmare Shackles with his Devouring Authority, and combined with the Wolf Totem's devouring power, they began draining the Earth-Burrowing Armored Beast's life force.

Once the beast had been weakened to the point of being unable to resist, Rosen dragged it closer for a thorough inspection.

Finally, in the pouch on the creature's abdomen, which exhibited spatial properties similar to a marsupial's, Rosen discovered a radiant crystal resembling an eyeball.

He tossed it into his Miracle Pouch, using both its identification function and his Historical Analysis ability.

The result soon came back: this was the corpse of a Void Eye.

The Void Eye was a very peculiar type of lifeform.

It could open a void wormhole the size of an eye across vast distances, such as spanning from alien territory all the way to the heart of human lands. Using spatial law, it allowed someone to spy on the other side of the wormhole.

Under certain conditions, a unique lifeform, the Void Eye, would be born within these wormholes.

Once fully developed, a Void Eye could not only replicate the surveillance capabilities of Rosen's Hunter's Eye, but also lock onto targets with its vision and create void wormholes across unimaginable distances to attack them directly.

Although the Void Eye's reconnaissance ability was inferior to that of the Hunter's Eye, its offensive support capabilities far surpassed it.

Rosen stored the Void Eye, intending to integrate it into the Hunter's Eye.

Any ocular-based artifact with similar properties could be merged into the Hunter's Eye through Miracle Synthesis, strengthening its powers.

However, fully digesting the Void Eye might be difficult. While it was now just a corpse, it had been cultivated to Sequence 1 during its lifetime and had likely served as one of the contract pets of the fallen alien Hunter True God. Rosen hadn't expected it to end up in this canyon, discovered by the Earth-Burrowing Armored Beast.

In the Mysterious Study Room, Rosen connected the Hunter's Eye to the Main God Computer.

As expected, the fusion speed was dramatically accelerated.

The Hunter's Eye, which had naturally grown to Sequence 4 alongside Rosen, would have taken centuries to fuse with the Sequence 1 Void Eye under normal circumstances. But with the assistance of the Main God Computer, the fusion would now be completed in a matter of days.

Several days later, the integration was complete. The Hunter's Eye gained a new miracle trait.

[Hunter's Eye: Miracle Vision Technique]

Level: Sequence 4

Miracle Attribute: Whatever you desire to see, the Hunter's Eye can show you.

Miracle Traits:

Void Eye, Magic Eye Photography, Data Transmission, Miracle Synthesis, Forge Annihilation,World Exclusive, Eternal Indestructibility

Rosen activated the Hunter's Eye, instantly shifting his view to the surroundings of one of his shadow demons.

At that moment, a Sequence 3 Lightning Hawk was pursuing a group of shadow demons. These shadow demons had kidnapped one of the Lightning Hawk's Sequence 4 offspring and were now being relentlessly hunted. They were in no position to transport their captured prey to the Void Shadow Realm.

Rosen willed the Void Eye trait to activate.

A wormhole the size of an eye suddenly appeared behind the Lightning Hawk's head.

Through the wormhole, the muzzle of Dragon King's Wrath, a powerful firearm, pointed directly at the target.

The Dragon King's Roar Bullet was fired. The bullet struck the back of the Lightning Hawk's head, instantly detonating into a fiery dragon breath sphere with a ten-meter radius.

Normally, the Dragon King's Roar Bullet had a wide destructive radius, which diluted its overall damage.

But this time, Rosen had compressed the explosion within his World Domain, ensuring all the destructive force was concentrated on the Lightning Hawk's head. He simultaneously used the World Domain to suppress the Lightning Hawk, preventing it from escaping through its lightning-elemental teleportation ability.

After just a few seconds, under the true-damage effects of the Hunter's Divine Source, the Lightning Hawk's divine source was critically damaged, leaving it in a near-death state.

Rosen then executed a Soul Harvest, converting the Lightning Hawk into a Sequence 3 Judgment Bullet imbued with its lightning-elemental teleportation ability.

Rosen didn't use the Lightning Hawk's essence to produce Source Oil for his Origin Lamp because his Sequence 4 Origin Lamp couldn't yet refine the essence of a Sequence 3 creature.

After collecting the corpse, the shadow demons returned, and Rosen continued his long-range sniping operations from extreme distances.

No wonder the Hunter True God had nurtured Void Eyes—this creature was practically a match made in heaven for Hunters.

More and more Sequence 4 extraordinary beings were transported to the stone forest via the Void Shadow Realm.

Rosen casually shot them down one by one, each target turning to ash as their life force, soul, and spiritual essence were devoured by the Origin Lamp, serving as fuel. Only their bloodline essence and extraordinary source quality remained, crystallized into glowing loot orbs.

When the 1,000th Sequence 4 extraordinary creature fell to his gun, an arrow mark appeared on the back of Rosen's hand.

Injecting spiritual energy into the mark, Rosen's figure vanished and reappeared atop the canopy of a towering tree.

Simultaneously, new memories inexplicably surfaced in his mind.

No one knew the true name of this spiritual realm, nor what transpired within. It was only known that those who entered could obtain a special hunter skill, but all other memories of the realm would vanish upon leaving.

Rosen glanced at his hand. He quickly realized his consciousness was no longer in his own body.

The body he now occupied belonged to the Hunter True God.

And the location he found himself in wasn't the inside of a spiritual realm—it was the legendary Dusk Battlefield.

The Beast King Arena for Sequence 3, the Universal Arena for Sequence 2, the Gods' Arena for Sequence 1, and finally, the Dusk Battlefield for Sequence 0—all four miraculous relics, if combined, could form a miracle structure on par with a true god-level miracle artifact.

But no one knew where the Dusk Battlefield was, or that it had been in the hands of the Hunter True God.

Something didn't add up, though. If the Hunter True God had possession of the Dusk Battlefield, why didn't they use it during the life-or-death struggle with the Prey True God for control over the Hunting Law? What secret or contingency lay hidden within the Dusk Battlefield that the Prey True God would rather die than reveal?

Rosen tried to control the Hunter True God's body but found himself unable to move.

Suddenly, atop another towering tree in the distance, a figure appeared—a figure Rosen recognized all too well.

It was the Prey True God.

Could it be that Rosen was now reliving the Prey True God's final memories before their death?

The two True Gods seemed to be engaged in some form of conversation, though Rosen couldn't hear anything. They weren't speaking aloud but communicating directly through spiritual energy.

Separated by dozens of kilometers, it was clear they had no intention of shouting to each other.

But the conversation quickly broke down. Both gods activated their law domains, and a fierce battle for survival began.

The Prey True God wielded a bow and arrow, each shot tearing through the earth and striking down stars.

The Hunter True God brandished a spear, each thrust bypassing distance and defense to land devastating blows on the Prey True God.

However, as the fight progressed, the Prey True God gradually gained the upper hand.

This was because the Prey True God wielded the complete Hunting Law, while the Hunter True God only controlled the Hunting Authority derived from the subordinate Hunter Law. The Hunter Law was merely a weaker subset of the Hunting Law, akin to the relationship between the History Law and the Archaeology Law.

The Hunter Law itself was originally born by siphoning power from the Hunting Law, so the Hunter True God was naturally at a disadvantage.

As the Hunter True God was pushed to the brink, with no escape in sight, several other True Gods suddenly joined the battle.

But they didn't come to aid the Hunter True God—they sided with the Prey True God.

Together, they helped the Prey True God deal a decisive blow, killing the Hunter True God with a single arrow.

Rosen was stunned.

The Hunter True God was slain by the Prey True God?

If that's the case, then who—or what—is the current Hunter True God? Could it be that the Prey True God had usurped their identity and taken their place?

Thinking back, the True Gods who assisted the Prey True God just now wielded powers eerily similar to those of the Wizard Sequence, Assassin Sequence, and Doctor Sequence. If they were indeed the True Gods of those Sequences, then was the World Government truly a civilization established by humanity?

This could explain why some theories on the Main God Network suggested that alien True Gods had participated in the founding of the World Government.

It might also explain why certain so-called "human deities" had access to the Gods' Network, which was supposed to be exclusive to alien gods.

But regardless of the conspiracy, history is written by the victors.

The Prey True God ultimately triumphed. If they openly declared their allegiance to humanity, their rise as the new Hunter True God would likely have been accepted.

So why go to such lengths to fake their death and impersonate the Hunter True God?

Unless even the human True Gods weren't aware of the Prey True God's true nature.

Or perhaps they were, and the entire affair was an unspoken agreement, a compromise born of necessity.

Rosen was still lost in thought when his spiritual consciousness returned to his body.

He found himself inside a grand temple, its halls dedicated to the Hunter True God.

However, the face of the Hunter True God enshrined in the temple was gradually transforming into Rosen's own face. At the same time, Rosen felt his spiritual essence being invaded—an external spiritual consciousness was attempting to infiltrate and take over his essence.

"Why does everyone treat me like some sort of Tang Monk's flesh, eyeing my body for revival?" Rosen sighed.

Behind him, the window of the Mysterious Study Room swung open, and a network cable from the Main God Computer extended into his consciousness sea, wrapping itself around the Sequence Tree within Ashen Castle.

Moments later, the cable extracted a struggling fragment of divine essence from Rosen's spiritual source.

The Hunter True God, hanging by a thread, was far weaker than the Ancient Dragon God had been. Faced with the Main God Computer, the Hunter True God had no ability to resist.

Finally, as if realizing there was no chance of survival, the Hunter True God's fragment of divine essence voluntarily ceased its resistance.

With the god's cooperation, all of the Hunter True God's memories were preserved intact.

For safety, Rosen entered the Mysterious Study Room and sat before the Main God Computer, beginning to sift through the Hunter True God's memories.

The more he saw, the more shocked he became.

He never imagined that this was how the World Government was established.

Rosen had always known that the origin of all species lay with the Primordial Humans.

Present-day angels, demons, and elves—like humans—could all trace their lineage back to the Primordial Humans.

Among them, the modern human race was the closest in bloodline to the Primordial Humans.

Perhaps for this reason, humanity was inherently favored by the world, its natural "darlings."

There were even times when alien races tried to take advantage of humanity's low points to annihilate them. Yet, under the world's favor, these attempts failed without exception.

Other alien civilizations could be utterly destroyed, but humanity always endured, thriving repeatedly.

However, humanity's cycles of prosperity came with a price: "what rises must fall."

Human ambition was boundless, and every time human civilization grew to the point of threatening the world itself, it faced cataclysmic setbacks.

The last peak of human civilization was during the Flame Kingdom of God era, but its god, the Flame True God, grew too ambitious and met an early downfall.

In humanity's current low point, certain alien True Gods saw an opportunity to integrate themselves into human civilization.

The human True Gods eventually agreed, for various reasons.

Without the help of these alien True Gods, humanity would have taken tens of thousands more years to emerge from its nadir. With their assistance, humanity could quickly restore its former glory.

Of course, these alien True Gods weren't saints—they had their own agendas.

What they wanted was a share of the civilizational fortune of the World Government.

Their ultimate goal was to leverage the World Government's fortune to increase their chances of becoming Great True Gods.

But there was only so much "cake" to go around.

If the alien True Gods wanted a slice, it meant the human True Gods would lose part of theirs.

Though in theory, as the "cake" grew larger, everyone's share would increase, greed knew no bounds.

The alien True Gods felt there were too many gods sharing the cake. Thus, during a time when the World Government was at war with various alien races, the alien True Gods who had allied with the government conspired to murder the Hunter True God.

At the time, the Hunter True God realized death was inevitable.

In their final moments, they hid the Dusk Battlefield along with a fragment of their divine essence.

Over the years, the Hunter True God had been patiently waiting for the right opportunity to be reborn.

Of all the hunters who entered the Dusk Battlefield, none had met the Hunter True God's standards—until now.

For those without sufficient talent, resurrecting as a True God would have been even harder than becoming one anew. Even if they succeeded in revival, they would be powerless against the Prey True God's relentless pursuit.

The Hunter True God believed that hiding in the Dusk Battlefield indefinitely would be no better than waiting for the right candidate.

Then Rosen arrived.

At first glance, the Hunter True God saw in him the perfect vessel for resurrection.

But, unfortunately for the Hunter True God, they had underestimated Rosen and walked straight into a trap.

Now, all the preparations and contingencies laid by the Hunter True God had fallen into Rosen's hands instead.
