Lord: Sequence Master

Chapter 509: Scaring Off the Nightfall Sovereign and Retreating Successfully

"The power of Destiny Reincarnation is immense, but you are not qualified to wield it..." With that, the Nightfall Sovereign's body split into two.

Among the Reincarnation Lifeforms of the two major factions, both Reincarnation Realm Lords and Reincarnation Dao Lords had lost all their physical bodies. Those bodies had been transformed into mysterious mummified corpses. Over the long span of 160 billion years, it wasn't that they couldn't reshape their bodies; rather, they dared not and could not. This was because, as their original forms, the mysterious mummified corpses were naturally and intimately linked to their soul forms. If new bodies were acquired, the soul forms' control over their original bodies would weaken, making it significantly harder to freely manipulate the mysterious mummified corpses.

Furthermore, a complete body signifies a complete life, and complete lives are not suitable for long-term existence in the memory world. Soul forms, comparatively, are better suited for survival in the memory world. However, none of these were issues for an Epoch Sovereign. The Nightfall Sovereign's true body had not been made into a mysterious mummified corpse, and even the clone's body remained perfectly intact. Moreover, it was completely unrejected by the memory world; as an Epoch Sovereign, they possessed this capability.

The moment the Nightfall Sovereign's clone body split into two, Rosen immediately identified the origin of this clone. It belonged to the Fission Ancient Worm, an extremely rare species in the Great Reincarnation Realm. This unique lifeform could split its body, dividing into two, then four, and even more terrifyingly, the strength of all the fissioned bodies would not be weakened in the slightest. Don't be fooled by seeing only two Nightfall Sovereigns; in a flash, there would be tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands. And each one would have equal strength, demonstrating the terrifying fission capability of the Fission Ancient Worm.

However, everything gained comes with a loss. The premise of the Fission Ancient Worm's terrifying fission talent was that the more clones it split, the more its own self-consciousness would split, and all the clones would be hostile to each other, engaging in mutual slaughter before they could even cooperate against an enemy. Yet, these fatal weaknesses were not insurmountable for the Nightfall Sovereign. With his Eye of Nightfall and his control over the Nightfall Parasitic Flower, he could completely obscure the memories of all his split bodies, temporarily suppressing their instinct for mutual slaughter, thereby transforming all split bodies from hostile to cooperative against an enemy.

Of course, under these circumstances, the Nightfall Sovereign couldn't split indefinitely. The more he split, the harder it became for the Nightfall Parasitic Flower to simultaneously obscure the memories of all split bodies. However, even splitting into four or eight could unleash terrifying combat power. Rosen didn't stop them because the Fission Ancient Worm's splitting speed was extremely fast. It was too late to stop them, so he chose to exit the Destiny Universe.

The Nightfall Sovereign, who had instantly split into eight, simultaneously unleashed the Eye of Nightfall in a coordinated effort to escape Rosen's memories. However, the Destiny Universe, existing within the memories, was difficult to leave even with the combined efforts of eight Nightfall Sovereigns. Faced with this predicament, the Nightfall Sovereign unhesitatingly employed the Reincarnation Sacred Art based on the Nightfall Parasitic Flower.

Nightfall Reincarnation is a form of reincarnation at the memory level, causing already indestructible memories to endlessly loop. Moreover, within this infinite loop, one can arbitrarily modify one's own memories through the Nightfall Parasitic Flower. If a Reincarnation Lifeform completely deletes their own memories and then copies the memories of another Reincarnation Lifeform, theoretically, the former would become the latter. Not only would their life essence be virtually identical, but even the extraordinary powers they wielded would not differ significantly. This is because the core of an indestructible memory is the memory itself; even cosmic vitality merely serves to strengthen the memory.

The Nightfall Sovereign realized that even with eight of him combining forces, it would be difficult to break through this Destiny Universe, which had no idea how much cosmic vitality it had integrated. Therefore, by modifying the memories of his split bodies, he successfully reshaped the memories of the split bodies into the memories of the Death Sovereign. Although only a portion of the Death Sovereign's memories were replicated, the resulting Death Sovereigns possessed only a fraction of his power. However, they were now capable of unleashing Death Reincarnation, the power most adept at destroying universes.

Seven Death Sovereigns, consecutively created through Nightfall Reincarnation, jointly targeted the Destiny Universe and unleashed Death Reincarnation. Through cosmic death qi, the concept of death was solidified, completely converting all cosmic vitality within the Destiny Universe into cosmic death qi. The Destiny Universe, unable to withstand Death Reincarnation, began to collapse as its cosmic vitality dissipated. If it were an ordinary universe, it would be doomed when facing Death Reincarnation at this point. However, the core of the Destiny Universe was the Destiny Computer, which was constructed by the Destiny System through destiny programming within the Source Essence Host.

The destruction of the Destiny Universe at this moment was, for the Destiny System, merely equivalent to a program crash.

As the Destiny System's program restarted, the Destiny Universe came back to life. The cosmic vitality that had been converted into cosmic death qi was now, through a life-death reversal, transformed back into a mixed state of half cosmic vitality and half cosmic death qi, effortlessly breaking the Nightfall Sovereign's Death Reincarnation.

However, in the next moment, a new wave of Death Reincarnation struck the Destiny Universe. The Destiny System's restart also activated a second time simultaneously. Death Reincarnation and the Destiny System's restart thus went back and forth, with neither side able to completely resolve the other. Even knowing it couldn't destroy the Destiny Universe, the Nightfall Sovereign persisted in this action. He was testing the limits of the Destiny Universe, probing whether this power could truly threaten an Epoch Sovereign.

If it couldn't threaten them, then giving Rosen a painful lesson to make his life worse than death would suffice. If it could threaten them, while not necessarily killing Rosen, they definitely had to destroy the power that the Reincarnation Will had given him. Rosen saw that the Nightfall Sovereign still wasn't serious, and he didn't know whether to be happy or angry. Being underestimated was certainly frustrating, but the Nightfall Sovereign, who didn't take him seriously, was undoubtedly easier to deal with.

The destiny network that permeated the Destiny Universe was composed not of destiny but of karma. Of course, it would be best if the destiny network were composed of destiny power. However, the power of destiny was sealed by the two major factions, and the Great Reincarnation Realm didn't have enough power to create a destiny network. But fortunately, karma and destiny were closely linked, and the Destiny System could edit karma into a destiny network.

All of the Nightfall Sovereign's attention was focused on the Destiny Universe, unaware that the destiny network was quietly tightening. As it was about to close completely, the Nightfall Sovereign instinctively felt something was wrong. Rosen immediately forced the destiny network to contract, instantly enveloping the Nightfall Sovereign in layers of the network. Then, he used Karma Reincarnation to leverage the karmic entanglement within his body, which originated from the Reincarnation Will, and transferred this karmic destiny network reincarnation towards the Nightfall Sovereign.

Permanently transferring these karmic entanglements to the Nightfall Sovereign through Karma Reincarnation was simply impossible with the current Destiny Computer. If karma were likened to a computer virus, Rosen was now the virus carrier. At this moment, Karma Reincarnation was like spreading these computer viruses along the destiny network to attack the Nightfall Sovereign's firewall. While he couldn't breach the firewall and completely transfer these computer viruses to the Nightfall Sovereign, Rosen knew this, but the Nightfall Sovereign did not.

He only knew that an invisible web of intangible matter, entangled around him, was transferring terrifying karma to him. The Nightfall Sovereign could clearly feel that the karma entwined around him at that moment was even stronger than the karma formed by destroying countless cosmic remnants. If he couldn't get rid of this, his true form wouldn't survive until the next Epoch Cycle. Fortunately, this was a clone, not his true form. The Nightfall Sovereign almost immediately decided to abandon this clone. He completely severed ties with his true form, absolutely ensuring that this karma would not entangle the true form.

The Nightfall Sovereign's indestructible memories immediately began to dissipate. He preferred self-destruction rather than giving the karma a chance to further entangle his true form. Rosen hadn't expected that using the destiny network to unleash Karma Reincarnation to transfer karma would actually scare the Nightfall Sovereign's clone to death? If the Nightfall Sovereign had just held on a little longer, he would have realized that the karma was only temporarily transferred to him and could not permanently entangle him. If he had just endured for a moment, that karma would have flowed back to Rosen through the destiny network.

In reality, the Nightfall Sovereign might not have failed to consider the possibility that the karma couldn't be permanently transferred. He just didn't dare to gamble. What if it wasn't temporary entanglement but permanent entanglement? Gambling wrong would mean death. Only gamblers who had nothing left to lose and were desperate would easily stake their lives. Realizing this, Rosen understood that he possessed a powerful trump card with strong deterrent power. As long as he used the destiny network to unleash Karma Reincarnation to transfer karma, it would be enough to deter those Epoch Sovereigns who dared not gamble.

Of course, the more he did this, the greater the chance of being exposed. They simply didn't dare to gamble, which didn't mean they would do nothing when threatened. They could certainly use other methods to test the veracity of the destiny network's karma transfer. Once they found out the truth, they would no longer fear the destiny network's karma transfer. After the Nightfall Sovereign's self-destruction, Rosen felt a bit disappointed despite his initial joy. The Nightfall Sovereign's self-destruction was too quick and too thorough; from his indestructible memories to his Eye of Nightfall, and then to the Reincarnation Sacred Body of his Fission Ancient Worm bloodline and his own origin, everything was completely eradicated through Death Reincarnation. In this situation, he didn't receive a single piece of loot.

Fortunately, he had intercepted the Heart of the Universe. Without it, the Reincarnation Will could not be sealed.

Rosen expanded his destiny network to envelop the super universe's Heart of the Universe. He even continuously circulated the karma entangled on him through Karma Reincarnation within the destiny network, making it appear, from the surface, that the Heart of the Universe was perpetually entangled by terrifyingly powerful karma. In this situation, the Epoch Sovereigns dared not even approach, let alone spare manpower to reclaim the Heart of the Universe.

The Nightfall Sovereign, perceiving a long-absent surge of anger within him, used the Nightfall Parasitic Flower to mask his fury, leaving only pure calm. His clone had been endowed with most of his true form's power, which was why it could activate the seal placed within the Heart of the Universe. However, he now dared not approach that invisible network permeated by karma. The other Epoch Sovereigns also wouldn't rashly approach before understanding the situation. Without the Heart of the Universe to seal the Reincarnation Will, they would have no choice but to fight the Reincarnation Will until both sides were severely wounded.

The Nightfall Sovereign never expected that Rosen, a mere scapegoat, could actually threaten them. "Technology Sovereign, go test his destiny network, which seems to be a technology system," the Nightfall Sovereign commanded the Technology Sovereign. While Epoch Sovereigns usually held equal standing, in critical moments, the Nightfall Sovereign and Dark Sun Sovereign had temporary command authority. Otherwise, the seven Epoch Sovereigns wouldn't have been able to cooperate and contend with the Reincarnation Will for hundreds of Epoch Cycles.

Though reluctant, the Technology Sovereign dispatched a Source Matter Lifeform of Reincarnation level to attack Rosen. This was a technological construct, not a clone, so even if it became entangled with karma, it could be discarded in time. Rosen was initially a bit worried, but his Root Heavenly Eye traced its origin and quickly determined that this Source Matter Lifeform was, at most, equivalent to a Reincarnation Dao Lord. He was confident he could completely deal with this Source Matter Lifeform even without using the destiny network to transfer karma.

He directly released the Root Universe, and from it, unleashed Candlelight and other Reincarnation Lifeforms. Although the thousand or so Reincarnation Lifeforms fought individually, they still used their respective Reincarnation Sacred Arts to defeat the Source Matter Lifeform midway. As Rosen summoned so many helpers, the Reincarnation Lifeforms of the two major factions also drew forces to surround him under the Nightfall Sovereign's command.

However, both warring parties were restrained. Reincarnation Sacred Arts exchanged blows in a lively manner, but no one was willing to fight to the death with full force. If the Nightfall Sovereign feared the karma flowing on the destiny network, why wouldn't other Reincarnation Lifeforms? They joined the two major factions to survive and live better. They might undertake tasks with a ninety percent chance of death, but they wouldn't even consider doing something that guaranteed death.

The Nightfall Sovereign and others saw this and wanted to scold them, but they held back. If they truly forced them to risk their lives in a test, it would only embarrass them and lead to internal division, benefiting Rosen. The only solution was to select an Epoch Sovereign to lead the charge and test Rosen. Only if an Epoch Sovereign charged ahead would the Reincarnation Realm Lords and Reincarnation Dao Lords dare not continue slacking off. The problem was that the Reincarnation Will was too strong; they couldn't spare anyone in the short term.

The situation thus reached a stalemate. As years passed, the Reincarnation Will's shell grew stronger with each battle, causing immense suffering to the seven Epoch Sovereigns. However, at this very moment, the Reincarnation Will's shell suddenly stopped impacting the cosmic barrier. After the Reincarnation Will was stimulated and awakened, it instinctively sensed a fatal threat within the super universe. The threat of death caused the Reincarnation Will's shell to instinctively try to escape.

The seven Epoch Sovereigns could not threaten the Reincarnation Will alone; they needed the Heart of the Universe, with its seals, to pose a threat. However, as the Heart of the Universe became enveloped by layers of the destiny network, the threat perceived by the Reincarnation Will gradually decreased. At the same time, the karma circulating within the destiny network itself originated from the Reincarnation Will. So, as time passed, the Reincarnation Will gradually no longer felt threatened and stopped trying to escape. Instead, it began to actively approach Rosen. The seven Epoch Sovereigns, sensing this, immediately abandoned their encirclement of the Reincarnation Will, allowing it to approach Rosen.

The Reincarnation Lifeforms of the two major factions scattered, and Candlelight and the other Reincarnation Lifeforms also avoided it. Rosen looked at the gradually approaching Reincarnation Will and felt unexpectedly startled. He did indeed hope the Reincarnation Will would willingly come to him, but he needed a shed Reincarnation Will shell, not a living one like this. It seemed he had underestimated the allure of homologous karma. Fortunately, the damage to the Heart of the Universe was almost complete.

The destiny network enveloping the Heart of the Universe wasn't just for scaring off the Epoch Sovereigns. It was also used to infiltrate the Heart of the Universe through the destiny network, thereby invading the super Heart of the Universe via the Destiny System. This super Heart of the Universe was composed of countless individual Hearts of the Universe. Complete destruction was impossible; otherwise, it wouldn't have been able to threaten the Reincarnation Will's shell. However, injecting cosmic vitality and planting a hidden time bomb was not difficult.

Igniting the cosmic vitality at a crucial moment and causing a conflict with the endless cosmic death qi inside the super Heart of the Universe would be enough to create an opportunity for the Reincarnation Will to destroy the super Heart of the Universe, and enough to force the Epoch Sovereigns and the Reincarnation Will into a desperate fight to the end. Rosen watched as the Indestructible Source Seed, infused with endless cosmic vitality, was sent into the super Heart of the Universe via the destiny network. He immediately retracted the destiny network and prepared to leave the super universe through Karma Reincarnation.

If he didn't leave, how could the seven Epoch Sovereigns confidently fight the Reincarnation Will to the death? His previous presence outside the super universe was the cause, and entering the super universe was the effect. Karma Reincarnation allowed him to break into the super universe. However, reincarnation implies that cause and effect will continuously cycle. At this moment, cause and effect reversed, and he, along with Candlelight and the others, instantly left the super universe.
