Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 210 Veteran_2

Luke got into the car and pulled out his phone to contact Joanna, who had just been released on bail a couple of days ago.

Joanna had been arrested for dealing in silver and impersonating LAPD. Luke had reduced one of her charges, and in exchange, she was to help him find the redhead female victim involved in a carjacking on June 25.

Three days had passed without a response from Joanna, which was starting to irritate Luke.

Soon, the phone connected. "Who's this?"

"It's Luke from the Robbery and Murder Department."

"Wow, Detective Chief Luke, no, Deputy Luke, what do you need me for?"

Luke chuckled coldly, "Thanks for remembering my name. I'm calling to let you know that I'm looking for you and getting ready to send you back to jail."

"Hehe, please don't do that, I'm searching for Maxine, trust me."

"Oh, that's a surprise. You remembered. I thought you had forgotten."

"How could I? I'm on it."

"Meet me at the police station tomorrow morning."

"That's too soon, I might not be able to find Maxine tonight."

"That's your problem. Whether you find her or not, I need to see you tomorrow, understand?" Luke's patience was nearly exhausted.

"OK, you're the boss."

"See you tomorrow."

Luke hung up the phone, a familiar voice suddenly came to his mind.

"Congratulations to the host for solving the 'Santa Monica Beach Car Sex Robbery Homicide,' reward: 30 lottery spins."

The rewards for the case were substantial; Luke didn't hesitate and proceeded with the lottery spins.

As the pointer stopped, Bullet-Proof Card...

After thirty spins, he had won 2 Bullet-Proof Cards and 28,000 US Dollars.

Although the win rate was not high, the Bullet-Proof Cards were exactly what Luke needed; they could save his life in critical moments.

With the Bullet-Proof Cards, he could now investigate cases with peace of mind. Otherwise, being a cop in gun-ridden America was a high-risk job, constantly on edge, unfit for the faint-hearted.

...

The next morning.

Luke and Kabool went to work together; in Los Angeles, not having a car was indeed inconvenient.

Of course, the ride wasn't free; Kabool treated Luke to breakfast, pancakes.

In their homeland, a KFC burger is more expensive than pancakes.

But in America, it was the opposite; burgers were cheap, while pancakes were pricey.

Eating a deluxe version of the pancakes with a cup of coffee was a bit of a mix, but it felt good nonetheless.

"Dinglingling..."

Luke's phone rang.

"Hello."

"Deputy Luke, it's Joanna."

"Did you find Maxine?"

"It's a bit complicated. Since my release, I've been using my contacts to search for Maxine. I also look for her myself every night. When you called last night, I was actually inquiring about her whereabouts..."

Luke cut her off, "Just the results."

"I found Maxine."

"Good, bring her to the police precinct, my previous promise stands, I won't press charges against her for dealing silver."

"I believe you, but... she's still reluctant to come to the precinct; she wants to meet somewhere else."

"Does she have some other case history?"

"No, it's just that in our line of work, we prefer not to deal too much with cops, let alone go to the precinct. Just entering the precinct makes us uncomfortable, that's true for me as well."

"Where does she want to meet?"

...

Half an hour later.

Monorail Café.

They agreed to meet there.

Luke chose a corner seat by the wall.

Soon, two blonde women walked into the café, one of them was Joanna.

"Hi, Deputy Luke, this is Maxine."

Luke examined the other woman, a heart-shaped tattoo on her right arm; "Miss, could you turn around?"

The other blonde laughed, "I know what you want to see." She then showed her back, pulling down her waistband slightly to reveal a 'come on' tattoo.

Luke gestured politely, "What would you like to drink? My treat."

"Forget it, the idea of police buying me coffee brings up some bad memories," Maxine declined.

"You should know why we're looking for you, right?"

"Yes, Joanna told me," Maxine said with a hint of worry, "but I still have to ask directly, you really aren't going to charge me?"

Luke said, "We're from the Robbery and Murder Department, we deal with murder cases, as for selling silver...

Even though it's illegal, personally, I don't think it poses too much of a harm.

In some ways, it might even reduce some specific crimes.

Frankly, we're only interested in felons, you... don't really appeal to us."

Maxine leaned forward, accentuating her curves, "Hope you're not playing double entendre here."

Luke glanced over, "nonono, it's pretty, very attractive."

"Thank you, great taste," she replied.

Luke interrupted the conversation, "Miss Maxine, if there's no problem, we would like to take your statement."

"OK."

"What's your full name?"

Maxine hesitated for a moment then slowly said, "Maxine Boel."

Luke took out a photo of Abal Flick, "Do you recognize him?"

Maxine examined the photo carefully, "Yes, he's one of my clients, quite unforgettable."

"Do you know his name?"

"I don't."

"How did you meet him?"

"Like I said, he's my client."

"I'm taking a statement, I need a clear explanation of your situation and relationship. I can assure you immunity from charges related to your silver trafficking."

"OK, then I have nothing to worry about," Maxine pursed her lips, recollecting for a moment, "It was the evening of June 25th, a lousy day.

Like usual, I went to Kabool Mountain to pick up clients, like you said, I'm a street girl.

The man in the photo was my client, I stopped his car, then got into it and we went up the mountain, where we found a secluded spot.

We agreed on the price, then started fooling around in his car.

Halway through, I heard knocking on the glass, I turned my head to see someone with a gun pointed at us.

The person wore a black mask, I couldn't see her face, she even told us to close our eyes or she'd kill us.

Then, she handed us three plastic handcuffs, asked us to handcuff each other, and then, she did something really perverted.

She called me out of the car, had me bend over the car's hood, and then she raped me from behind.

Fuck, she was holding the gun, I was so scared I went dry, it hurt like hell, what a freak," Maxine complained.

Luke pointed at the man in the photo, "What kind of car was he driving at that time?"

"I think it was... a Mercedes."

"What time did you meet? What time were you robbed?"

"Met around nine, got robbed around ten."

"What kind of gun did the suspect have?"

"I only glanced once, looked like a black handgun, I don't know what model. I'm more familiar with real guns than that kind of thing."

Luke smirked wide, "Wow..."

"This statement is quite interesting," Luke smiled and continued to ask, "What did the suspect take from you?"

"She took several hundred US dollars from me, even ransacked the client's Mercedes."

"Did the suspect take a revolver from the car?"

"I don't know, the suspect told me to keep my eyes shut, I didn't dare look carefully."

"Describe any other characteristics of the suspect."

Maxine shook her head, "It was quite dark at that time and she threatened me not to open my eyes. It's hard to describe her features, even if I saw her again I might not recognize her."

Luke pressed on, "You've been using 'she'. You think the suspect is a woman?"

"Yes, I think she's a woman," Maxine replied.

"You said you couldn't see the suspect's features, how do you know it's a woman?"

Maxine smirked lightly, "I didn't see, but I could feel it.

In our line of work, real or fake, I've experienced all sorts.

What she used was silicone, decent quality, but having been through it all, I can tell, it was definitely fake."

Luke stared wide-eyed, curious, "Are you saying the suspect used a fake dildo to rape you?"

"Exactly, if it were a man, he couldn't resist being attracted to me, there would definitely be a reaction, so why use a fake?" Maxine stood up, showcasing her curves,

"What do you think?"
