Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 218 Late Arrival (Long Chapter)_2

Even so, don't let your guard down; the commanding officers on site may not follow orders from their superiors to the letter.

"In a crisis, they might do anything, so be extra careful not to get accidentally injured."

Luke said, "I understand, I've been wearing my body camera the whole time, and it should have already uploaded to the cloud."

"Good, that shouldn't be a problem then," Reid cautioned again, "Remember, you're in Las Vegas, not in Los Angeles.

Showing a little caution is nothing to be ashamed of.

Don't engage in a head-on conflict with the Las Vegas police, even if they want to frisk you or detain you for a temporary inspection, you must not resist, got it?"

"I've got it," Luke, although slightly annoyed, knew that Reid was looking out for his best interest.

"Finally, I want to say one more thing.

You did a great job!" Reid finished speaking and hung up the phone.

Luke smiled and dialed 911.

After the call connected, a woman's voice came through, "This is the 911 dispatch center."

"I am currently at the Mandalay Bay Hotel; there has been a shooting, hundreds have been killed or injured..."

Before Luke could finish, the dispatcher interrupted him, "I know, we've already received hundreds of calls, the police and ambulances are already on the scene.

What you need to do now is ensure your own safety."

Then the call was ended.

"Beep beep..."

Luke was stupefied, I wasn't done talking, I...

Luke was somewhat at a loss for words.

After a while, Luke tried calling 911 again.

But he couldn't get through; it was busy the whole time.

Luke became even more frustrated.

"Ring ring..." His phone rang.

Luke looked down and saw it was a call from his mom.

"Hello, Mom."

"Oh my God, thank God, you finally answered.

I saw the news about the shooting in Las Vegas, you haven't been in any danger, have you?"

Luke laughed, "Mom, I'm a cop, I've seen it all; don't worry, I'm fine."

Linda obviously breathed a sigh of relief, "I saw on the news that the gunman shot hundreds of people; it's horrifying, I'm glad you're okay."

"Everything is normal on my end, how are you and the little guy?"

"We're fine over here, when are you coming back?"

"I might be back the day after tomorrow."

"Better come back sooner. I know you're a cop, but this situation is too dangerous, already several hundred have been injured, and the shooter doesn't care whether you're a cop or not."

Luke didn't elaborate further and agreed, "You're right, I will return to Los Angeles as soon as possible."

Luke glanced at his phone, "Mom, grandpa is calling too, I'll catch up with him first."

Luke pressed the answer button and got straight to the point, "Grandpa, everything is fine with me in Las Vegas, don't worry."

Robert laughed, "I'm not worried; you're a cop. I know you can take care of yourself. Are you having fun over there?"

"Yes."

"That's good. I guessed your mom would be worried after seeing the news, so come back early."

"I understand."

Val, on the other end of the phone, said with a laugh, "Remember to bring me a present when you come back."

"No problem."

Luke hung up the phone, and then Black's call came in.

"Hey, buddy, what's the situation like in Las Vegas? You're not hurt, are you?"

"We go through gunfire every day in Los Angeles; you know that. What could possibly happen to me?"

Black said, "I just saw the news that there has been a terrorist attack in Las Vegas. Hundreds were shot at a concert.

You need to be careful, they aren't like typical suspects.

They might be a well-trained and well-equipped terrorist organization, and they usually don't operate alone. Be very cautious."

Luke countered, "Are you alone right now?"

"Yes, why?"

"I'm going to start a video call with you."

Luke hung up and dialed Black's video call, showing him the situation on site.

"F***ing hell..." Black spewed a string of expletives, "What the hell is going on over there?"

Luke walked over to the balcony and filmed the situation below.

Black's voice came from the phone, "I can't see it clearly... Wait, you're not at the scene of the shooting, are you? No, that angle seems like it's from the shooter's room.

You were involved in the capture of the shooter. No, that's not right; why is it only you there? And why are you doing a video call with me? Shouldn't it be confidential?" Black's rapid-fire questions hinted at the likely reason, but he was somewhat incredulous.

"Don't have so many questions; listen to me explain slowly." Luke glanced at the door, it was still quiet outside, probably a while to wait.

Luke recounted the situation on site to Black once more.

Black's eyes widened, still somewhat in disbelief, yet the scene in front of him was too real, and he looked envious, "If I'd known it'd be this thrilling, I should have shamelessly accompanied you."

Then, Black asked with some concern, "Are you worried that showing me the situation violates a confidentiality agreement?"

Luke laughed, "I haven't signed any confidentiality agreements in Las Vegas, and the situation right now is complicated."

Black also realized the issue, "You've been at the scene for so long; what are the Las Vegas police doing?"

Luke looked at his watch; it was already 10:35 PM, almost 20 minutes since the shooter had committed suicide, "I don't know what they're up to. What I regret most now is not having taken the walkie-talkie from the officer on the 31st floor."
