Chapter 224 Touching Heart (Two Chapters Combined)
Andesie Cole looked shocked, "You're saying the blue spots on the ground are all bloodstains?"
"Yes, has there been blood here before?"
"No." Andesie seemed to realize something, "Oh my god, could this be my wife's blood? I've told those two cops a long time ago that my wife could never have run away from home, but they just wouldn't listen.
Lieutenant Luke, could my wife be in danger?"
Luke pulled out a photograph of a cotton cloth, which was the piece of cloth that had been stuffed in the mouth of the deceased. The cloth bore some cloud patterns and also retained bloody handwriting,
"Have you seen this piece of cotton cloth?"
Andesie took the photo and read, "Wretched people, should not live in this world." Andesie shook his head, "I have never seen this piece of cotton cloth. Does it have anything to do with my wife?"
At this point, Luke no longer hid the truth, "Andesie, I must tell you something, please don't get agitated.
We found a body that shares similar physical characteristics with your wife, but we have yet to confirm whether it's her or not."
Andesie picked up another photo from the coffee table and gently rubbed it with his right thumb, "This is my wife."
Luke glanced at the woman in the photo, recalling the charred body that had been found, his exceptional observational skills still could not confirm if it was the same person.
"Yesterday morning, we received a call about a house fire. Firefighters discovered a female body while fighting the fire. It was badly burned, beyond recognition.
We could only compare the body's physical characteristics with the missing persons database.
We found a similar match and proceeded with further verification.
This is also why we are here today."
Andesie's teeth chattered, and he spoke with a trembling voice, "Do you suspect that my wife is the one who was burned to death?"
Luke nodded slightly, "We are only suspecting at the moment.
Your wife and the deceased have similar dates of disappearance, age, and physical features, but these alone are not enough.
If you agree, we can have the children undergo a DNA test for further confirmation."
"Oh my god." Andesie stood up, his hands clutching his head, pacing back and forth in the room.
"Why is this happening? Why?
I've already told those two cops that my wife couldn't possibly have run away from home.
She must have been in trouble.
But they just wouldn't believe me; they assumed my wife left home because of an argument. It's all their fault.
If they had acted promptly, my wife wouldn't have died."
Luke said, "Complaining now won't solve the problem, and we can't yet confirm that the deceased is your wife.
I will contact the technical team to conduct a site investigation, hoping we can find more valuable clues and evidence to thoroughly investigate the reasons behind your wife's disappearance.
You need to stay calm; as long as the DNA testing isn't done, everything is still possible. There are many people in the world who look alike; it could just be a coincidence."
"I understand, let's do the test. I want to know the results soon."
Luke nodded, took out his phone, and contacted Susan to bring the technical team to the scene for investigation.
After making the call, Luke also considered the connection between the two cases. If the deceased really was Nancy Cole, then this place might likely be where she was initially abducted.
But there was one thing Luke couldn't figure out; if the killer wanted to kill the victim, why not simply do it here instead of taking the victim to another house to commit the murder, adding many risks during the transfer process.
Also, according to the previous police investigation records, the two officers didn't believe her wife was abducted or even that their home had been burglarized. Instead, they thought her wife had taken money and run away from home.
Unless the officers were particularly irresponsible, there must have been some basis for their conclusions.
Luke turned to Andesie Cole, "Mr. Cole, I would like to ask you a few more questions."
Andesie was somewhat distraught and nodded, "Ask away."
"Earlier, you mentioned that your wife's mood has been a bit abnormal recently. Did she encounter any troubling issues? And what were the reasons for your arguments?"
Andesie hesitated for a moment, "Her temper recently has been very volatile, getting into arguments over trivial matters, not just with me, sometimes even scolding the children.
As a man, you know, I always hope to keep a harmonious atmosphere at home, so I try to avoid arguing with her.
But sometimes... it still happens.
I've asked her too... why she's in a bad mood.
At first, she wouldn't tell me; she was angry, and it wasn't a good time to press the matter.
When she calmed down, I asked again, and she said it was because of her job."
"What's going wrong at her job?"
"Just that it's tough work, and the customers are difficult, nothing specific. I always felt she was brushing me off, like she was hiding something from me.
That was the main reason I got angry."
"Where does your wife work?"
"She works as a beautician at a beauty salon."
"What's the name, and where is it located?"
"It's called Prisha Beauty Salon, at 105 Warner Street. It's easy to find; you'll see it once you're there."
Luke took out a photograph of Martin and Cage Cage, "Do you recognize these two people?"
Andesie looked at the photo, "I don't recognize them.
