Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 238: Bizarre (Two in One)

Half an hour later.

The other members of the Robbery and Murder Department arrived at the scene.

Lately, Squad One had not been assigned any cases, so there was a high probability this case would be allocated to Squad One, even though it was discovered by someone else.

The deputy captain glanced at Luke, envying him a little, "We work at the police station, yet you're leisurely vacationing by the sea.

Kid, I'm kinda jealous of you."

Luke smiled. Speaking of which, Deputy Vincent was already at the age for retirement. His re-employment by the police department was less about a love for the job and more about financial reasons.

Jack smirked, "And you didn't even call me, that's not cool."

"I also regret not bringing you, it was super boring," Luke said, thinking of Orty's S-curve and speaking insincerely.

Jack touched his chest, "I feel much better hearing you say that."

The deputy captain looked around, "Didn't you say you found a body in the sea? Where is it?

I don't see anything."

Luke said, "The body is three meters below the sea surface; it's normal that you can't see it."

"Then how did you find the body?"

"Actually, I wasn't here for vacation today, but to learn scuba diving. I found it while practicing."

"Scuba diving? Sounds super cool." Jack said admiringly, then frowned, "You're secretly learning new skills again."

"I also plan to learn surfing in the future; I really want to experience the feeling of conquering the sea."

Jack shook his head, "No, you just want to show off."

"That's not true."

While the two were chatting, Susan was discussing with the technical team and the forensic doctor how to retrieve the body from the water.

In the end, it was decided to send a member of the technical team who could dive into the water to recover the body and look for any other evidence around it.

Soon, the member of the technical team, equipped with scuba gear, dived in. He didn't rush to retrieve the body, but first took photographs of its condition and the surrounding environment.

This was the primary crime scene. Directly recovering the body could potentially result in missing certain evidence.

After photographing, the diver descended to the seabed, which was not very deep here, only about seven or eight meters.

The young Black boy had a rope tied around his right foot, with a heavy metal block at the end. If they directly recovered the body, the force of the metal block falling could damage it.

Therefore, the recovery was planned in two parts: one to recover the body and another to recover the metal block, both to be done simultaneously.

The diver secured the body with bindings and caught the metal block in a net, then pulled both up at the same time, lifting the body out of the water and into the motorboat.

Afterwards, the diver jumped back into the water to continue inspecting the area around the body for any evidence that might have been missed, such as the murder weapon or personal belongings of the victim.

The body was moved to shore, surrounded by a secured perimeter; other than the police, onlookers had been dispersed.

Members of Squad One, the forensic team, and the technical team all began to examine the body.

Luke could now see more clearly; the boy's face appeared young and tender, his body bore marks of being torn, and looking at the wounds, it seemed he was bitten after death, probably by marine creatures.

Thinking this, Luke felt sick to his stomach and decided he wouldn't eat seafood for the next couple of weeks.

The young man was wearing a black Nike T-shirt, shorts, and on his left foot, a single Nike sneaker.

Jack crouched down and looked at the sneaker, "This pair of Nike sneakers is a limited edition; I've always wanted to buy them, but they're too expensive, already being sold for 1000 US dollars a pair. A child from an average family definitely wouldn't be able to afford them.

But what kind of person would be so cruel as to kill a teenager."

The deputy captain said, "There are billions of people in the world; it's not possible for everyone to be normal.

Moreover, why would the killer dump the body here?"

Jackson speculated, "Could the body have drifted here with the currents from somewhere else?"

The deputy captain pointed at the heavy weight tied to the victim's left foot, "Even if it drifted from somewhere else, it shouldn't be far.

Without a witness, Luke is the one who reported it, we have very few leads to go on at the beginning. We need to identify the victim first."

Jack pointed to a few hotels not far away, "Could the victim be a guest from one of the nearby hotels?"

Susan said, "Alright, let's split up and visit the hotels and stores nearby. As soon as forensic and technical departments uncover any leads, I'll post them to the chat group."

"Yes, captain."

Everyone went their separate ways.

...

Luke and Jack walked along the beach towards the Hilton Hotel.

Jack said, "The victim is still a child; I hate cases like this. They always leave me with an uncomfortable feeling."

Luke said, "At a time like this, no one suffers as much as the parents. To raise a child for over a decade, and then to just lose them... there's nothing more painful than parents burying their child."

Jack nodded, "You're right, which is why I never want kids in my lifetime."

"You don't like kids?"

"I do, but kids mean responsibility.

I... don't feel capable, and I don't want to take on that burden.

Why must people have children?

I really can't understand."

"Have you talked to Julian about it?"

"No, I don't know how to bring it up, or what attitude to have when I do.

First off, I'm not sure if she's really pregnant.

If she's not, it'll be awkward for both of us.

If she is, I have no idea how to face her." Jack complained helplessly, "I really don't know what that woman is thinking?"
