Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 264: Pain_2

"Good, what's his name?"

"Osmon Simpson."

"How did you meet him?"

"I sold him some merchandise."

"What kind of merchandise?"

"Just some cigarettes, alcohol, daily necessities, that kind of stuff."

Luke took out a list, "Take a look, is it the items on here? Pay attention to the brands."

Rocky looked carefully at the list, "That's right, these are the items."

"Where did these items come from?"

Rocky sighed, "Did he rat me out?"

"Cut the crap and answer my question first."

"Uh... I can't remember."

Luke laughed, "Are you indirectly telling me that you've stolen from a lot of stores and you want me to investigate all your misdeeds in detail?"

"Uh... I remember now, it was a Korean supermarket, Gangnam Supermarket."

"When did you steal it?"

"Around twelve o'clock at night on August 3rd."

"Did the items you stole include Caféla brand red wine?"

"Seems like it."

"I want an accurate answer," Luke pointed at the brand of red wine on the list.

"Yes, there were two cases of that brand of red wine."

"Why would you poison the wine?"

"Poison?

No, I didn't poison it. I just wanted to turn the goods into money. Why would I poison them? It doesn't benefit me in any way."

Luke looked at the other person, who didn't seem to be lying, "When you sold the red wine to Shanyuan Supermarket, did anyone else touch those two cases of red wine?"

"No."

"Is it possible that one of your accomplices poisoned it?"

"Impossible, that wouldn't benefit them either." Rocky seemed to sense the issue, "What exactly are you arresting me for?"

"The two cases of red wine you sold to Shanyuan Supermarket had poison in two bottles. We're here to investigate this. If you want a favorable plea deal, you better clarify this matter, understand?"

"Poison?" Rocky frowned and pondered, "But we really didn't poison it. Could it be that there was something wrong with those two bottles of red wine themselves?"

David laughed, "Are you suggesting that the factory poisoned its own product, or the supermarket poisoned itself? Have they gone mad?"

"No, no, that's not what I mean. I saw someone that night sneaking into the supermarket—it could have been her who did the poisoning."

Luke asked, "What kind of person was it?"

"An Asian woman, wearing a floral dress. We saw her while we were scouting around the supermarket, and we waited for her to leave before we robbed it.

Since it was a Korean supermarket and she seemed Korean, I didn't pay much attention to it."

Luke took out a photo of the owner of Gangnam Supermarket, Li Shanmei, "Is it her?"

"She looks a bit like her, but it's probably not her."

Luke thought for a while then took out a photo of Li Shanmei's cousin, Jin Xiuhui, "Is it her?"

"It looks like her."

Luke was somewhat surprised, "How long was she inside?"

"I don't know. When we arrived, we found the backside of the supermarket was open. We didn't go in right away but hid in the car waiting.

All I saw was her coming out, carrying what looked like a black backpack."

"What time was it then?"

"Around eleven fifty."

"Do you have evidence?"

"Yes, I was a bit curious at the time, so I took a photo of her."

Luke took out his phone to search and indeed found a photo that looked like Jin Xiuhui. The timestamp was 11:50 PM on August 3rd.

In Luke's memory, Jin Xiuhui and her cousin Li Shanmei seemed quite close. Why would she sneak into her cousin's supermarket late at night?

Was she the Poisoner?

Or did she have another motive?

As for why Jin Xiuhui chose to sneak into the supermarket on August 3rd, that wasn't hard to understand.

The area around the supermarket had a power outage that day, so the surveillance cameras were inoperative. Jin Xiuhui likely knew this.

From this perspective, she is a suspect in the poisoning—just her motive was still not clear.

Luke brought his thoughts back to the present and looked towards Rocky, "Are you willing to testify against her?"

Rocky counter-questioned, "What's in it for me?"

"No, I'll take that as a yes."

Rocky "..."

Afterward, Rocky was also escorted out of the supermarket.

Rocky and his companions had gang affiliations and were first handed over to the Anti-Gang and Anti-Drug Bureau for processing.

Luke patted David on the shoulder, "Buddy, it's all yours."

"Don't forget about my drink."

Luke laughed, "Charge it to me."

...

The following afternoon.

Gangnam Supermarket.

Manager's office.

Two women were chatting on the sofa—it was the owner of Gangnam Supermarket, Li Shanmei, and Jin Xiuhui.

Jin Xiuhui took a sip from her coffee cup, "How's the investigation of the supermarket theft going? Have those cops come back?"

"No, no news since they left last time." Li Shanmei sighed, "I don't have much hope."

"Buzz." A ringtone sounded.

Li Shanmei took out her phone from the red purse beside her, glanced at the screen, "Another sales ad, it's so annoying."

"That's the trouble with being rich." Jin Xiuhui chuckled, pointing at the red purse, "Is this a new purchase? I've never seen it before."

"Yes, Zhong Min gave it to me a while ago. I'm carrying it for the first time today."

"It's not your birthday yet, why did he give you a gift?"

"It's a Qixi Festival gift."

"Oh my gosh, I haven't celebrated that in so long I've even forgotten what it's like. Did you make him noodles?" Jin Xiuhui said with a hint of envy.
