Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 264: Pain_4

Jin Xiuhui glanced at him, then lowered her head again and didn't answer.

"We not only have photos, but also a witness who is willing to come forward and identify you.

Your denial is useless."

After a while, Jin Xiuhui slowly raised her head, "Even if I went there, so what? It doesn't mean I poisoned the supermarket."

"The Jiangnan Supermarket closes at nine in the evening, what were you doing there after eleven?"

Jin Xiuhui was silent for a moment, and then spoke slowly, "I had been to the supermarket during the day.

At night, I realized I had lost one of my earrings. I thought I might have dropped it at the supermarket, so I went back to look for it."

"Did you tell Li Shanmei about this?"

"No."

"Where did you get the keys to the supermarket?"

"Li Shanmei had left them with me before."

"Li Shanmei owns the supermarket, why would you sneak in at night and not tell her?"

"I forgot."

Luke laughed, "Any person with just a little common sense wouldn't believe that. Do you think that excuse will convince a jury?"

"What I am saying is true."

Luke changed the topic, "Do you have any Caffèlla wine at home?"

Jin Xiuhui's body shook a bit, she shook her head, "No."

"Have you ever bought this brand of wine?"

"No."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"We contacted the manufacturer of this wine and found out about ten supermarkets near your home that sell this wine. We checked the CCTV footage at some of these supermarkets and found you at the Wiggins Supermarket, which is five kilometers from your home."

Luke took out his phone and played a video. In the video, Jin Xiuhui was seen placing a box of wine on the counter; the wine brand was Caffèlla, "How do you explain this?"

"Oh my god…" Jin Xiuhui burst into tears.

After she had cried for a while, Luke warned her with a serious face, "Ms. Jin, you've been lying since the interrogation began, and it's all been recorded on the law enforcement recorder. It's not just that I don't believe you—the prosecutor, judge, and jury won't believe you either.

If you continue to lie, you'll only increase your own sentence.

Be smart and cooperate with the police; it's in your best interest."

Overwhelmed with emotion, Jin Xiuhui cried out, "God, why am I so unlucky, why?"

Seizing the moment, Luke pressed on, "You bought Caffèlla wine from Wiggins Supermarket, then you poisoned the wine, and on the night of August 3rd, you placed it into Jiangnan Supermarket, am I right?"

Jin Xiuhui nodded, choking up, "Yes.

But I only put a common laxative in it, it wouldn't cause any serious harm to the body."

Since she admitted it, Luke's tone softened, "Why did you poison the wine?"

Jin Xiuhui shook her head, "I was out of my mind at the time, I don't know why I did it."

"Do you have any conflicts with Li Shanmei?"

"No."

"Did you want Jiangnan Supermarket to go out of business?"

"Yes."

Luke speculated, "Do you hate Li Shanmei?"

"I don't know."

"Do you dislike her?"

"Yes."

"What do you dislike about her?"

Jin Xiuhui wiped away her tears, "Twenty years ago, I came to Los Angeles as a student, the first in my family to settle in America.

Back then, everyone envied me.

I completed my studies, married a Caucasian, and smoothly got my green card. Everything was perfect.

About twelve years ago, my cousin came to Los Angeles through me, I handled all her paperwork.

In the beginning, she lived in my house, wore my old clothes, used my old bags. I helped her a lot, her first job and her husband, I introduced them to her.

It was I who always helped her.

Because of my help, she could have everything she owns now." Jin Xiuhui showed a complex expression on her face, with a hint of resentment and bitterness, "What about me?

I helped her so much, what did I get in return?

I got divorced, now I can only live on a meager alimony.

I don't even have a proper job now, while she owns a supermarket and is even planning to open a branch.

I rent a place to live, while she owns two mansions.

My life is a constant struggle, while she splurges on luxury goods all day.

Seeing all this makes me feel so painful, so awful.

I always thought, if I hadn't brought her to America, hadn't introduced her to her job, hadn't introduced her to her husband.

Maybe none of this would have happened.

I wouldn't be living in so much pain."
