Chapter 269: Accident_3
The chubby boy hadn't finished speaking when he saw the motorcycle zoom out, quickly disappearing into the community street.
"You can't just leave me! You can't do this!" the chubby boy said anxiously, jumping up and down.
Linda shouted, "Jack, come home with me right away and explain everything.
Otherwise, you won't get any allowance this year, understand?"
...
After sending the annoying chubby boy away, Luke felt completely free.
Back home, he did a thorough cleanup to erase any traces of the chubby boy's visit.
He spent a relaxed afternoon.
In the evening, Luke made dinner plans with Daisy.
At the same time, he booked a suite for couples at the Four Seasons hotel.
The hotel had just spent 35 million US dollars on renovations, featuring 285 rooms, a saltwater pool, a spa, and an outdoor fitness center, among other amenities.
Its most famous attraction was a Michelin three-star Italian restaurant.
Luke and Daisy planned to meet at this restaurant.
At eight in the evening, Daisy walked into the restaurant wearing a khaki dress, looking elegant.
Luke waved to signal her and pulled out a chair for her.
"Daisy, I like this dress of yours, it perfectly showcases your figure."
"Thank you," Daisy kissed Luke on the cheek, "Luke, you've been tasting better recently. A Michelin three-star Italian restaurant is not cheap."
Luke smiled," Do you like me more now?"
Daisy nodded and leaned in to whisper, "But, there's no need to pick such a nice place for a date. I don't want you to overextend yourself financially, that would be a burden."
Though Daisy's comments were somewhat out of place, they were meant well.
For an ordinary police officer, indeed, the cost here was too high.
But for Luke, it was different as he had several sources of income.
Of course, there was no need to tell Daisy that.
"Today is a bit different, I have some good news to tell you."
"What's the good news?"
Just then, the female waiter came over, "Ladies and gentlemen, may I serve your dishes now?"
"Go ahead."
Luke said, "I pre-ordered some of the restaurant's signature dishes based on your taste, you can order more if it's not enough."
Daisy raised her wine glass to toast with Luke, "Now you can tell me your news."
"Captain Susan is being transferred, and I've been temporarily appointed as the acting squad leader of Squadron One."
"Cool, you became a leader so quickly!" Daisy exclaimed, surprised.
"Acting."
"With your skills, it's only a matter of time. Career advancement deserves celebration, congratulations." Daisy raised her glass again.
"Thank you," Luke took a sip, "How's your work been recently?"
"The same old, meeting clients, working overtime, preparing materials, going to court, settling cases, it's tense and boring.
Sometimes, I really want to switch jobs.
But then upon reflection, I don't know what else I could do?
Isn't it contradictory?"
Luke held Daisy's hand, "Then relax a bit, don't put too much pressure on yourself."
Daisy shrugged, "My clients chose me, I must live up to their trust and the fee they pay. It's hard to just let go."
"Ladies and gentlemen, here is your first dish of the evening." The female waiter approached with a plate.
As the waiter served the dishes, Luke changed the topic to a lighter one.
The Michelin Italian restaurant really was excellent, not only were the dishes attractive, but they were also delicious, aside from being a bit pricey, there was nothing to fault.
After dinner, Luke and Daisy went to the couple's suite they had booked in advance.
Such a place added more ambience to their date.
The suite was warmly decorated, similar to other couples' rooms, but featured a distinct bed which was suspended, with ropes tied to its four corners, causing it to sway with movement.
Luke laughed, trying it for the first time and looked somewhat expectant.
"Are you sure we're going to sleep here?" Daisy glanced at it, shook her head slightly, and walked towards the balcony.
The hotel was built on Beverly Hills, and from the balcony, one could overlook the beautiful street view, bright lights, and artfully designed buildings.
Luke wrapped his arms around Daisy from behind, "It's getting late, let's wash up and rest."
"You go ahead. I want to sit here on the balcony for a while," Daisy said in a lazy tone.
"Shall we wash together?"
Daisy considered it, "I'm a bit tired today, I'd like to take a bath."
"I'll run the water."
Luke turned on the faucet, and after leaving the bathroom, he found Daisy still staring out the window.
He didn't rush her, knowing that sometimes an occasional breather after a day's work was a good way to relax.
Luke turned off the room lights, then took out his phone, opened the camera app, and slowly scanned every corner of the room...
He always made a habit of checking for surveillance when staying in hotels.
As the phone's camera passed over a wall outlet, it faintly caught a red light.
Luke moved in closer to investigate, and seeing the red light emerge from the topmost outlet, he suspected it might be a miniature camera based on his experience.
The outlet was directly facing the bed's direction; if anything happened on the bed, one could see everything clearly.
