Luffy's Call: My Journey with the Straw Hats

Chapter 35: A Sea of Chaos

"Is this the Log Pose?" At that moment, Luffy suddenly stretched his arm, snaking it around behind Nami to grab the device. He examined it with a strange expression.

"Luffy, be careful! That thing is very important! In case you—" Nami quickly warned.

But before she could finish, Usopp let out a sudden, piercing scream. "Aaaah!"

"Usopp!" Startled, Luffy spun around.

CRACK!

As he did, the Log Pose in his hand suddenly crushed under his grip.

"LUFFY!" Nami shrieked in anger. "You bastard, are you really that clumsy?! That's a Log Pose! How are we supposed to sail without it?!"

"What!"

"Luffy!"

"Let's get a new captain!" the others stared in horror. Of everyone on the ship, Luffy was likely the only one who didn't understand how critical the device was.

"Usopp, what's wrong?" Luffy asked, quickly turning his attention to his terrified crewmate.

"There's fog!" Usopp shouted, peering through his spyglass. "A dense fog is rolling in!"

"Fog?" Hearing this, everyone was shocked. The mist was already upon them, spreading rapidly and enveloping their ship. Their vision was blurred, and within moments, they couldn't see more than ten meters in front of them.

"Damn, what kind of horrible weather is this?" Nami cried out in frustration. "First it snowed, then it rained and thundered, and now there's fog! Is this the Grand Line?" She tried her best to see ahead, but the world was a vast expanse of white. She was a brilliant navigator, but in the Grand Line, she felt like a complete rookie. This sea overthrew everything she knew.

"There's an iceberg ahead!" Usopp suddenly yelled again. He had been scanning their surroundings with his spyglass and was the only one who could see that far. "Sanji, hard to port! 90 degrees! Hurry!"

Sanji, who was at the helm, immediately saw it too: a huge iceberg, ten meters ahead, directly in their path.

"An iceberg!"

"No, I see it too! It's huge!"

"Sanji, quick!"

The ocean current was moving so fast, and the dense fog had obscured their vision. By the time they reacted, it was too late. Sanji had already started turning the rudder the moment Usopp had shouted, but it wasn't enough. The Going Merry was heading straight for a collision. At their current speed, the consequences would be catastrophic.

"Not good! It's over!"

"We're going to hit it!" Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday roared in terror.

But just as the Going Merry was about to be smashed to pieces, a crescent-shaped wave of sword energy flew from the observation deck, slicing the iceberg cleanly in two.

BOOM!

The iceberg shattered into countless pieces of ice that rained down around them, and the Going Merry sailed safely through the gap.

"Moonlight!" Seeing the familiar slash, everyone cried out in joy. They all knew it came from Moonlight, practicing on the observation deck. To be able to react in the nick of time... Nami felt a wave of relief wash over her. They were saved.

"Great! We're saved!" Usopp sighed.

"That guy... does the fog have no effect on him at all?" Sanji wondered aloud, exhaling a puff of smoke. He couldn't figure out how Moonlight had managed to see the iceberg and hit it so accurately.

"The iceberg was sliced to pieces?" Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday stared, their mouths agape in disbelief. "That man cut it apart with a single sword? That was an iceberg!"

"I'll clear the way ahead," Moonlight called down, leaping from the observation deck to the bow of the ship. "Sanji, thirty degrees to port." With his Observation Haki, the fog was no obstacle; the surrounding area was perfectly clear in his mind.

"Alright," Sanji nodded, immediately following his instructions.

A short time later, the Going Merry sailed safely out of the fog bank.

"We're safe!" everyone sighed in relief.

"This Grand Line is really terrifying," Usopp murmured, a lingering fear in his voice. "First snow, then rain and thunder, then a dense fog that almost made us hit an iceberg... so what's next? A storm?"

As if the sea itself were responding to his words, a violent gust of wind slammed into the ship the moment he finished speaking. The wind howled, the sea swelled, and the Going Merry was tossed about, shaking violently. Everyone on board staggered, struggling to keep their footing. Usopp and Nami were blown clean off the deck and into the churning sea.

"Usopp! Miss Nami!" Sanji cried out in shock.

"Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, hold the ship steady!" Moonlight commanded. He leaped into the sea, his Raptor's Air Rend activating as man and sword became one. He became a phantom, moving swiftly across the waves to catch the two of them.

"Got it!" Sanji replied, and he, Luffy, and Zoro worked frantically to stabilize the ship, with Zoro pulling down the sails to keep them from being torn away by the wind.

"Moonlight, thank you so much!"

"We're saved!" Nami and Usopp gasped, clinging tightly to him as a wave of relief washed over them. They had thought it was over.

"Hold on! The storm is fierce! We're going to break through!" Moonlight nodded, but instead of returning to the ship, he faced the storm head-on, his body a blur of motion as he carried Nami and Usopp forward, straight into the heart of the tempest.

"Hey, Moonlight, are you seriously charging straight into the storm?!" Usopp shrieked, tears streaming down his face. "Just put me down! I'd rather take my chances in the sea!" He hadn't expected to be rescued like this. Was this guy really trying to save them?

"Moonlight, no!" Nami screamed. Rushing headlong into a storm... the man was insane. How could a person fight against a natural disaster?

"He's running on the sea... is... is he even human?" Miss Wednesday stammered, her shock even greater than when he had sliced the iceberg.

"He didn't even try to evade it. He's rushing straight into the storm. He'll be blown to the ends of the earth," Mr. 9 sneered.

Ah... ah... ah...

Moonlight ignored them, his sword a blur of motion as he cut a path through the storm. No matter how violent the wind, no matter how turbulent the sea, he did not waver. And then, as suddenly as it had begun, the storm was gone. The sky was clear, and the sea was calm once more. Moonlight leaped back onto the deck of the Going Merry and set Nami and Usopp down.

"It's finally over," they both gasped, their bodies shaking, tears of trauma and relief streaming down their faces. "Next time we fall into the sea, don't let Moonlight be the one to rescue us." What had they just experienced? Moonlight, if you wanted to be crazy, be crazy on your own! Why did you have to take us with you?

"So, I've finally reached level 3," Moonlight thought, a sense of accomplishment mixing with his exhaustion.

A notification sound echoed in Moonlight's mind. After constant practice, his Raptor's Air Rend had finally reached level 3. At this level, he had gained the ability to briefly stay in the air, allowing him to move through the sky much like a user of the Six Powers technique, Moonwalk. Not only that, but the friction with the air during the technique's execution had intensified, and the sound of his movement had transformed from a simple whistle into a violent storm of sword energy. And if he imbued it with his Armament Haki, the power would be even greater.

"Hmph, you were saved, and you're not even a little bit grateful. You could have just fallen back in," Sanji grumbled, shooting a look at Usopp. He then immediately disappeared into the kitchen and returned with a cup of hot chocolate, which he presented to Nami with a flourish. "Miss Nami, have a hot drink! Be careful not to catch a cold!"

"That guy..." Zoro muttered, rolling his eyes.

"Thank you," Nami said, taking the cup. She then looked out at the sea, her expression grim. "Oh no... after that storm, I'm afraid we've been blown off course. The currents here are too strange. I can't tell where we're going anymore."

"What?!" Usopp cried, his face pale with fear. "Does that mean we'll be like Mr. Crocus, stuck drifting in circles forever?"

Sanji and Zoro said nothing, but their expressions were equally serious. This was a major problem. Were they really going to be lost at sea, never to set foot on land again? Nami just nodded, her silence confirming their fears.

"Nami, you're the navigator!" Luffy suddenly said, his voice unusually serious.

"And whose fault is it that we're in this mess?! You're the one who broke the Log Pose!" Nami shrieked, kicking him so hard he flew into the ship's railing.

"Yeah, it's all your fault! If it weren't for you, our Log Pose wouldn't be broken!"

"I think we should get a new captain!" Usopp, Sanji, and Zoro shouted in unison. What was going on in that guy's head?

"What a terrible navigator... what a poor captain," Miss Wednesday and Mr. 9 whispered to each other, a look of fear on their faces. This crew was too cruel to their own captain.

"Hey, give me your Log Pose," Moonlight said, suddenly appearing in front of Miss Wednesday and pointing to the device on her wrist.

"You...!" the two of them gasped, and Miss Wednesday quickly covered her arm. The Log Pose was their only means of navigation. Without it, they would be lost in this vast sea. But when they saw the cold, indifferent look in Moonlight's eyes, a shiver ran down their spines. Just meeting his gaze was enough to make their hearts tremble. Miss Wednesday didn't dare to resist and obediently handed over her Log Pose.

"Wow, Moonlight, you had a plan all along!" Nami said, her face lighting up. She carefully put the Log Pose on her arm and guarded it like a precious treasure, shooting a wary look at Luffy.

"Yeah, how could I have forgotten about them?" Usopp said, slapping his head. Why hadn't he thought of such a simple solution?

Sanji and Zoro also glared at Luffy, who was just getting back to his feet. They had to make sure he didn't get his hands on this one.

"Alright, I get it," Luffy said with a wave of his hand. He then turned to Sanji. "Sanji, I'm hungry!"

The rest of the crew was speechless. What was going on in that guy's head?

"Wait," Sanji said with a sigh and headed to the kitchen. As a qualified chef, it was his duty. Soon, he returned with a table full of delicious food, and everyone's mouths began to water. Even Miss Wednesday and Mr. 9 looked on with greedy eyes.

"Time to eat!" Luffy shouted, jumping over to the table and immediately digging in. The others nodded, thinking that he was finally acting like a captain. But when they looked down to grab their own food, they were stunned. The table was completely empty.

"Where's the food?" everyone asked, confused. Miss Wednesday pointed a trembling finger at Luffy. His stomach was now the size of a giant balloon, and he was lying on the deck, letting out a satisfied burp. In the time it had taken them to look up, he had eaten everything.

"Hey, Luffy, what is your stomach made of?!"

"Luffy, you ate everything yourself! What about the rest of us?!"

"You bastard captain, at least save me a piece of meat!" they all shouted, glaring at him. Was he trying to feed himself and starve the rest of the crew?

"I propose we get a new captain," Usopp declared. "All in favor, raise your hand."

"I agree!"

"I agree!" everyone shouted, raising their hands. Even Miss Wednesday and Mr. 9 joined in, since Luffy had eaten their food too.

"Alright, it's unanimous!" Usopp announced. "I've decided that I, Usopp, will be the new captain!"

"Get lost!"

"Scram!"

"In your dreams!" everyone sneered, their expressions a mixture of disdain and contempt.

Usopp froze in place. "Am I really that unpopular?" he wondered, a look of pure dejection on his face.

Splash! Splash!

At that moment, two sounds of something hitting the water were heard. Miss Wednesday and Mr. 9 had taken advantage of the distraction and jumped into the sea. "Goodbye, you fools!" they shouted, smiling triumphantly as they swam away.

"They don't have a Log Pose. Aren't they afraid of getting lost?" Usopp asked.

"No, those two came prepared. It's not that simple," Sanji said, taking a deep breath.

"Yeah, they're assassins. An assassin would never get lost," Zoro added.

"I don't think we need to worry about them," Nami said, pointing at Luffy. "What we need to worry about now is our food situation. Luffy ate everything. What are we going to eat?" Solving their hunger problem was the most important thing right now.

"I can't do anything," Sanji said, shaking his head. "All the food on the ship is gone. We'll have to wait until we get to the next island to resupply."

"What?!" everyone groaned in despair.

"There's an island over there," Moonlight said, pointing to the horizon.
