Chapter 46: Foggy Memory
Joanne's head throbbed.
A sharp, relentless pounding echoed in her skull, making her groan as she shifted under the covers.
Her vision was blurry, but as she blinked a few times, her surroundings slowly came into focus.
Her room.
But how…?
That was when she noticed him.
Alexander sat near the floor-to-ceiling window, his expression unreadable as he watched her.
Her brows furrowed.
Her mind was in a terrible state.
She pressed her temples, trying to recall the events of last night, but all she could remember was—
She had been out with Diana.
And then…
Her stomach twisted.
She remembered laughing, drinking, and then—
Nothing.
Complete darkness.
Panic gripped her chest.
"How did I get home?" she finally asked, her voice hoarse.
Alexander's expression remained calm.
He reached for the cup on the table beside him and handed it to her.
"Drink this first," he said. "It'll help with the hangover."
Joanne hesitated but took the cup, the warmth of the tea soothing her fingers.
She took a slow sip, the taste bitter but comforting.
Alexander leaned forward slightly, his gaze sharp.
"What do you remember?" he asked.
Joanne frowned, thinking hard.
"I… I was with Diana," she murmured. "We had drinks… and then…"
Her voice trailed off.
That was it.
Everything else was blank.
Alexander studied her face for a moment, his jaw tightening ever so slightly.
"Is that all?" he asked.
She nodded, her confusion deepening.
A part of her felt like she was missing something important.
But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't remember.
Alexander leaned back in his wheelchair, his fingers tapping lightly on the armrest.
"Then don't think too hard about it," he said smoothly. "You were drunk. You blacked out. That's all."
Joanne swallowed.
Somehow, she felt like he wasn't telling her everything.
But her head hurt too much to push for answers.
