Chapter 556: Notebook of High German
"What proof have you got?"
Pankratios asked with his fingers interlaced and his body leaning slightly against the stone table as if he were interested.
"The language on the walls… I know what it is."
Kiernan said.
"You know and are capable of understanding that language, which even the world's greatest historians aren't capable of translating?"
Lambert asked.
He thought it was ridiculous, as he, himself, was somewhat of a historian, and while he was more interested in the Age of Fist and Blood, he had studied a little bit about the Stone Ages as well.
The language on those walls didn't seem to come from any era. It was as if it were some gibberish created by the creator of those dungeons.
And now, Kiernan, who was still wet behind his ears, said that he was able to understand that language.
Of course Lambert thought that he was bullshitting!
"How did you come to learn the Dead Language?"
Pankratios asked with a frown.
While he also had his own doubts, he didn't want to jump to quick conclusions before he learned more about what Kiernan had to say.
He was like a patient grandfather.
"It's not a dead language, first of all. It's called High German."
Kiernan said.
'…High German?'
The members of the Martial Order looked puzzled, and they had never heard of such language or place before.
"In my travels, at the place where I found the King of the West World's diary, I also discovered a notebook of High German.
"It had instructions on how to learn it, and back then, I thought it was just some old language that had passed its expiration date.
"Thus, I didn't bother to learn it, but when I came to Rodero, I still had it with me, and when I saw those texts on the wall, I thought it looked very familiar!
"When I returned from the dungeon, I took a glimpse of the notebook, and I translated what was said in those walls.
"I was able to perfectly translate it with the notebook, which, I guess, should be called the dictionary of High German."
Kiernan said with a serious tone.
While he couldn't explain how he actually knew German, he had thought about ways to explain how he would know the language if anyone were to ask.
"Do you have the notebook with you?"
Pankratios asked in surprise.
"I apologize; I didn't think of bringing it with me today. I'll bring it in the next meeting."
Kiernan said, and wryly smiled as it looked like he had to write this notebook from scratch.
It was going to be a very long, tedious thing to do, as it was the same as writing a dictionary from scratch, and while he knew High German, he didn't remember every single word!
It meant that he would be only able to write everything that he remembered, but it should be fine.
"That's fine, so then… What was written on the wall?"
Pankratios asked.
Everyone else also bought his explanation and thought that Kiernan's discovery might even be greater than that of Valerian!
"I was able to find only one of those texts so far, in the boss room of the Blue Dungeon, but I also hadn't checked other dungeons yet.
"But, in that dungeon wall, this was said:
"This child shall be named as Red Shield Menace! I think that's a cutesy name, and I shall make him care about his shield very much!
"Good luck - MR!"
Kiernan said.
Frowns appeared on the faces of the Martial Order members, and they thought that it must've been written by some childish person.
"My translation might not have been completely perfect, but you get the gist of it. I think those initials at the end must mean Mercedes Rosburg, correct?"
Kiernan asked.
"It would fit. The Great Dungeons of Rodero was created in ancient times, and those Dungeon Dwellers were also created from scratch.
"I believe that only the Martial God of that time would've had an ability to create life, such as them. Those Dungeon Dwellers would vanish if the person who created them died as well.
"Therefore, that might be proof that Mercedes is still, in fact, alive, or whoever created them is a powerful Martial Ability user with the ability to create life.
"That person would also still have to be alive and be over two thousand years old. It can be human, if that person has reached the Immortal Stage, or an elf."
Pankratios said.
"Finding more of those texts is of utmost importance, Kiernan. I think you're only capable of checking out the Green and Blue Dungeons, correct?"
Xerxus asked.
Kiernan crossed his arms and nodded his head.
That was indeed the case, and it bothered him, as he believed that the truly important stuff was out there in the Yellow, Red, and Black Dungeons.
"I will have my retirement ceremony tomorrow as I am stepping down from the Fleet Admiral position, and then I can head over to Rodero.
"I can take you with me to check out the other dungeons."
Xerxus said.
"Sounds good."
Kiernan said with a nod.
"That's decided then. I guess that's all we have about Mercedes this time around, and I am very satisfied with the job you've done.
"In the coming meetings, Kiernan will bring the notebook of High German and the texts he'd been able to find.
"That dungeon could be an important key in finding out more about Mercedes."
Pankratios said, then saw that the candle was about to die, and brought another one before it went out.
"You all may speak freely now."
Pankratios said.
During this time, the members of the Martial Order could talk about trading between each other and also talk about other worldly matters.
"I am in need of help."
At that moment, Kiernan said and crossed his arms while others turned to look over with a raised eyebrow.
"Valerian."
Kiernan looked at the tophat-wearing detective, who looked at him with curiosity, and asked.
"Have you ever heard of the Lovely Flower Sect or a woman called Evelyn Moritz?"
"Doesn't ring a bell. Why?"
"I know they're responsible for the serial killings that have been happening in Rodero. I believe that they're using Arghman's Ceremony to steal power from their innocent victims, which also ends up killing them."
