Chapter 24: Back in New York
---
"Yeah, it's sort of like space folding — actually, it's more accurate to call it spatial manipulation. That's my ability," Kai Vale explained as he stepped forward to help Tony remove his armor.
"By the way, I've got a surprise for you!"
"A surprise?" Tony asked, curious.
"See for yourself," Kai said, raising his hand and opening a space portal.
Tony peered through the portal and saw nothing but desert.
"Doctor, you can take off your invisibility cloak now," Kai called out.
Suddenly, a shimmering cloth lifted in the air, revealing Yinsen's face.
"Oh my god! Yinsen, is that you? I can't believe it!"
Tony rushed forward and hugged Yinsen tightly. After all, Yinsen had risked his life to give Tony a chance to escape.
Kai walked over, took the invisibility cloak from Yinsen, and stored it in his system space.
"Tony, it's me. I'm alright — Kai saved me," Yinsen said.
"Yeah, I figured it had to be him," Tony replied. Then he turned to Kai with questions bubbling up. "But how did you hide him like that? I swear there was no one there."
"Oh, this?" Kai held up the cloak and demonstrated how it worked.
"Yeah, that! How does it hide someone so perfectly?"
"Don't get too excited — it's not tech, it's magic," Kai said.
Tony rolled his eyes. "If you don't wanna tell me the truth, fine. But come on, 'magic'? Really?"
Kai just smirked. Tony would understand eventually.
"Alright," Kai said, shifting the topic. "Now that everyone's safe, we should head back to New York."
"Oh sure," Tony agreed. "But how exactly are you getting us back? We're not seriously waiting for a plane, are we? Shame my private jet isn't here — you'd love it."
Ignoring Tony's joke, Kai turned to Yinsen. "Doctor, where do *you* want to go?"
Before Yinsen could answer, Tony jumped in.
"Yinsen, you should come with me to New York! It's tough trying to rebuild your life on your own, and I can help you settle in."
Tony's plea was more than just concern — he truly valued Yinsen as a friend and didn't want him to return home only to end up in danger.
After some thought, Yinsen agreed. "Alright, I'll go with you."
"Great! So, what now?" Tony asked, eyeing Kai expectantly.
Kai smiled slyly. "Now? Well... now this."
Without warning, Kai opened a portal beneath Tony's feet. Before Tony could react, he dropped straight through it — and Kai promptly closed the portal.
"W-Where did you send him?" Yinsen asked, startled.
"Relax," Kai chuckled. "I was just messing with him. Let's go."
He opened a vertical portal, and both he and Yinsen stepped through. On the other side, they found themselves in Tony's house.
Kai then opened another portal and brought Tony back.
"Oh man... I think I just visited some weird dimension. Everything was swirling colors, and I couldn't see a thing!" Tony groaned, still dizzy.
Moments later, Tony blinked and realized he was now sitting on his own sofa.
"Wait... this is my house? So you really *can* teleport anywhere…"
Kai grinned. "Yeah, you'll get used to it. For now, just sit tight."
"Hey, Jarvis," Kai called out. "Where's the water? Tony's gonna need it."
"Hello, gentlemen," Jarvis responded. "The water is at the bar across the room."
Yinsen, being closer, walked over to pour Tony a glass of water.
"Boss," Jarvis continued, "I've detected that your vitals are unstable. I've already alerted Miss Potts — she's on her way."
Meanwhile, Kai wandered to the bar, scanning the shelves before grabbing an expensive-looking bottle of wine. He opened it, poured two glasses, and handed one to Yinsen.
"Oh come on!" Tony groaned, clutching his glass of water. "I'm over here feeling like I've been punched by a tank, and you two are just drinking my best wine?"
"You should probably save your energy," Kai said, raising his glass. "Didn't you hear Jarvis? Pepper's on her way. If she catches you drinking before you've even recovered, you're in trouble."
Kai clinked glasses with Yinsen, both of them grinning.
Hearing that, Tony paused. "...Yeah, good point." He grumbled and went back to sipping his water.
Seeing Tony sulk, Kai shot Yinsen a playful wink, and the two quietly chuckled over their drinks.
