Chapter 35: Fight With Iron Monger
---
Tony knocked Iron Monger directly onto the road next to him, blocking the flow of traffic and causing the vehicles behind to brake suddenly and stop.
Then a mother driving a car full of children suddenly braked and stopped her car in front of Iron Monger.
Obadiah turned around in the Iron Monger and lifted the car — and the people inside — off the ground. "I like this suit!"
Seeing this, Tony shouted, "Put them down!"
But Obadiah didn't listen. Instead, he walked toward Tony, still holding the car. Tony quickly said to Jarvis:
"Jarvis, turn it up to full power."
The arc reactor in Tony's chest began to glow brighter, and a powerful repulsor blast shot from his chest, sending Iron Monger flying. Tony caught the vehicle just in time.
"Sir," Jarvis warned, "there's only 19% energy remaining."
As Tony carefully lowered the car to the ground, the terrified mother accidentally hit the gas pedal. The vehicle lurched forward, shoving Tony down the road.
Tony struggled to keep control, but after being dragged for a long distance, he finally lost his grip. The car rolled over him and sped away.
Barely recovered, Tony staggered to his feet — only to be met by Obadiah, who had seized a nearby motorcycle and swung it like a club. The blow sent Tony crashing into a parked car, shattering its windows and denting the frame.
Tony was dazed and barely moving as Obadiah began monologuing about his grand plans. Then, satisfied with the beating he'd delivered, Obadiah flung Tony onto a nearby bus.
Boom!
Tony slammed into the bus's side. Before he could even attempt to move, Obadiah launched a missile straight at him.
Pepper, who had been watching from afar, panicked.
"He's launching a missile!" Yinsen shouted.
"Quick, Kai! Save Tony!" Pepper cried.
Kai had been observing the battle carefully. He knew the missile wouldn't deal much more damage than Obadiah's punches, but seeing Pepper's panic — and knowing Tony's reactor was nearly depleted — he decided to step in.
As the missile launched, Kai created a small portal right in its path, teleporting the missile several hundred meters underground. Moments later, a muffled explosion rumbled from beneath the earth.
Obadiah stared in disbelief at the missile's sudden disappearance. Before he could react further, Kai teleported directly to Tony's side.
Tony lay in the crushed side of the bus, unconscious. Without hesitation, Kai reached in and dragged Tony out.
As Kai was pulling Tony to safety, Obadiah, still furious, fired another missile directly at him.
"Watch out!" Pepper screamed.
The missile vanished mid-air, disappearing through another portal.
Kai finally got Tony to safety and saw him slowly regaining consciousness.
"Tony, you stay here," Kai said firmly. "I'll handle this."
Tony groaned and tried to protest, but Kai just smiled.
"Don't worry," Kai added. "Give me two minutes."
Before Tony could reply, Kai turned and flicked his hand. Four small portals appeared around Iron Monger's limbs, neatly severing them at the joints.
Obadiah, now just a head and torso inside the powerless armor, struggled in confusion. Before he could act, Kai walked over, tore off Obadiah's helmet, and tossed it aside.
Turning back to Tony, Kai grinned.
"What's wrong? You look surprised."
Tony stared at him in disbelief.
"I just… didn't expect you to deal with him that fast."
Kai laughed. "It's rare to hear you admit I'm better than you."
Tony huffed, clearly annoyed. "That's 'not' what I meant."
Before their banter could continue, Pepper and Yinsen rushed over. Pepper ran straight to Tony, wrapping her arms around him.
"Oh my god! I thought I'd lost you!" she cried.
Tony, exhausted but smiling, hugged her back. "It's okay... It's over now."
Meanwhile, Yinsen's gaze was locked on Obadiah.
"So... what are you going to do with him?" Yinsen asked.
Pepper's expression turned serious, and Tony hesitated.
Kai knew Tony would likely rely on the legal system — but also knew that Obadiah's wealth and influence could easily set him free before long.
